Is Billy Wagner a Hall of Famer?
Just kidding. Of course he isn't.
Have to feel bad for good ol' Billy, though. The news that he needs Tommy John surgery may or may not hurt the Mets' season. Truthfully, I never thought a team could win a World Series with Wagner as closer because he sure as heck-fire will give up an important game. That's been is history, so it's silly to think it wouldn't have been his present.
Will he walk away from the game? His contract is up after next season, and he's made millions, so he could.
But there's something about competing that drives these guys more than the love of money. Not that the money isn't grand. My guess is we'll see Billy in someone's spring training camp in 2010.
Next up for the Mets in '09: K-Rod.
Bank on it. He'll be a Met.
