Alaska team had no intention of facing Da Bears
One of our local high schools, Island Trees, had to move tomorrow's football game against Lawrence to nearby MacArthur HS due to a lead cleanup.
But the Barrow, Alaska, Whalers, have that beat. At least in the quirkiness department.
A couple of weeks ago, a Barrow practice was canceled because of, wait for it...........polar bear sightings.
And, no, the bear was not carrying billboards for Coca Cola. Or Sarah Palin.

The Barrow Whalers are one win away from hosting a 1st ever State High Football Championship above the Arctic Circle.
If it happens, it could also be the 1st time that fans are encouraged to wear mukluks and fur coats as well as be required to pack heat.
