Giambi's 'stache is gone!

Great job by Newsday's Arthur Staple yesterday in getting a semi-exclusive about one of the biggest Yankees stories of the year. Here it is:
By Arthur Staple
The 'stache is gone.
Jason Giambi inspired the Yankees faithful with his retro mustache, which he grew in early May to try to snap himself out of a horrific slump. It worked, but only for a time. Giambi, 12-for-66 (.182) since July 3 after going 0-for-3 yesterday, shaved off the mustache after the Yankees' 14-9 win over the Angels.
"There's no more hits in it," Giambi said as he boarded the team bus for the team's flight to Dallas. "No more hits."
Giambi and the 'stache nearly made the All-Star squad; the Yankees handed out 20,000 fake mustaches to fans attending the Yankees-Rays game on July 9 in an attempt to get him the final spot on the team. But he didn't win the Internet voting by the fans, and now Giambi will try to regain his hitting touch as a clean-shaven guy - unless the Abe Lincoln beard, or some other facial hair variation, appeals to him.

As I said months earlier ... Giambi would go on a streak, Yankee fans would go wild, and then he'd crash.
You could look it up in a debate in this very blog.
