Breaking News! Scranton Yankees CF Melky Cabrera will no longer have an action figure made in his honor
This news comes to us from Brooks Simpson, who has a keen eye for this kind of stuff.
If you thought getting demoted to Triple-A Scranton was bad for Melky Cabrera, well, get this. McFarlane Sports announced a few days ago that original plans to include Cabrera in its figurine plan for next season have been scratched. Here's the link.
It was just two months ago that McFarlane announced plans to honor Cabrera with a figurine, excitedly describing him as 2008's version of Joe DiMaggio. Or something like that. Here's that release in which Melky is listed with Chipper Jones, Carlos Zambrano, Dustin Pedroia and Miguel Cabrera.
Whoops.
"Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman believes in building from within, and Melky Cabrera is part of New York's core of homegrown young talent. Cabrera continues the trend of Yankees center fielders with range (following Johnny Damon and Bernie Williams) but also brings an absolute cannon arm to New York's defensive lineup."
Bad times for Melky...
