Two Islanders fans who make sense
Don't mean to cut off the debate below, but I'd like to single out these two Islanders fans and give more weight to their comments.
This is from Don:
If the GM and coach are not on the same page, a change has to be made - regardless of who is right or wrong. I just wonder who will come in to coach the team. I don't want to see any retreads from past Islanders teams - no offense Butch and Lorne. I'm also concerned that Mad Mike might be waiting in the wings. I doubt Snow would hire him because Mike might come in and try to pull the GM from him. Very unlikely. I wouldn't mind seeing John Tortorella come in. His fiery attitude might be just what is needed. I wouldn't be surprised either, considering how the Islanders seem obsessed with bringing in players from the US, and from the MA area specifically.
It's never dull in Islanders Country - at least not off the ice.
This is from Dan:
Honestly I am a huge Isles fan but this is just pathetic. They the the laughing stock of the sports world. They hire Smith as GM then fire him, then bring in a back up goalie as replacement?? Then somehow they get a decent coach but the back up goalie fires him. Mickey Mouse is the term I would use also. In case anyone doesnt know all the young players they have other then kyle O are all 2nd or 3rd liners at best. Its not like we have Crosby and Malkin in the pipeline. Total Jokers
Good stuff, Don and Dan. That's what debate is about.
I agree with the idea that Nolan was the competent one who got fired by the incompetents. Jim's feeling is that Nolan had to go because he didn't have the support of ownership and was going to go eventually. Who is right? Who is wrong? That's why they play the games. But there's no one who can argue that this is a good day in Islanders history.

Jim and you are actually on the same side here. This isn't a question about Nolan's competence as a coach, although Greg Logan's column today raises questions about that as well. This is about Wang and Snow. There's no committee any more: it's Snow's show. He has developed the same relationship with Wang once enjoyed by Mike Milbury.
You know how that turned out.
