Lilly scores baseball's version of a double-bogey

ted%20lilly.jpgFormer Yankee Ted Lilly accomplished a feat Monday night that you usually don't hear about.

The Cubs pitcher fanned five batters -- and he struck out five times.

In baseball, striking out three times in a game is a sombero (as in hockey's hat trick) and four Ks is the golden sombero. What's the next step; platinum? I've also heard it described as the Olympic rings.

Sorry I'm a little late on this but I found out about while reading today's version of the Los Angeles Times Morning Briefing.

"I felt like I tried every different swing and every different stance," Lilly was quoted as saying in the LA Times item. "I don't think that I put much fear in any of those pitchers. I guess once the scouting report gets out, I'm done now."
