Does Barry Bonds deserve a break today?

barry-bonds1.jpgNow that the asterisk-scarred ball that Barry Bonds hit for his 756th home run has been delivered to the Hall of Fame, I'm just wondering, now that they have had time to cool off, how people feel about Bonds and his records

This could make a good Anthony-Jim-Norm debate except that I really don't know how I feel anymore.

Thanks to the much-publicized performance-enhancing drug allegations, I became totally turned off during Bonds' pursuit of Hank Aaron's record and, like many people, hoped he'd pull a muscle or something and stop hitting home runs.

I still wish Aaron held the record, and I still wish that the single-season record still belonged to Roger Maris.

But I also wish some jerk hadn't carved a big old asterisk on a sacred baseball artifact. And I also wonder if Bonds could actually help some team as a DH once the pennant races get going for real.

Your thoughts?

I see by the number of comments that everybody just loves Bonds.
