Willie Randolph, Derek Jeter, Yogi Berra and a 5-mile race
I originally planned for a rather calm work day today. On my to-do list was my Web column, write my where-are-they-now (yes, I've already spoken to him), blog a lot and finish up a special project I've been working on for Sunday's newspaper.
But the Mets had to go pull off one of the most classless managerial firings in the history of New York sports ... and the next thing I know I'm sitting in a room with Derek Jeter, Yogi Berra and a MLB official on the 29th floor of Major League Baseball's Park Avenue offices talking about the firing. Just weird. (For the record I brought my video camera to tape the interview, but MLB at the last minute requested that I didn't use it.)
Anyway, one of the blogs I was going to post was to ask if any FS reader ran the Jones Beach five mile race last night? It turned out to be a race against that nasty storm, which actually was pretty cool, wasn't it? I know I had more motivation to finish than other races. Although I did get thoroughly soaked, my time of 44:27 made it worth it.
