Mets fire their manager (15 years ago)

May 19, 1993, Jeff Torborg was fired as Mets manager and replaced by Dallas Green.

Green joined Casey Stengel and Yogi Berra to become the third man to manage both the Mets and Yankees.

Firing the manager made a huge difference. Under Torborg, the Mets opened the season 13-25 (.342). Under Green, they went 46-78 (.371).

I was only kidding about the manager making a difference. The 1993 Mets were awful.
