Final Score history, Part II

Miley Cyrus

The ratings are out.

The first month of the new Final Score, with Anthony and Jim, was up 400 percent from the previous month.

Wow.

We're not going to get into totals because we're still sucking wind when it comes to the big blogs like the Yankees or Mets or Best or Glauber.

We just want to thank everyone who has given us a look and decided they liked what they saw. And thanks to Mike and Mike in the office for giving us good play on the sports home page when we did something they deemed worthy.

And thanks to our Newsday blog bretheren for linking to us or allowing us to link from their blogs. We invite you to check them all out; they're good people and part of why working at Newsday, despite continuing uncertainty in our industry, doesn't suck too much.

We're talking about Glauber and Davidoff and Lennon and O'Brien and Hahn and Zipay and especially Best, the blogfather.

And thanks to commenters Brooks and Chicago Norm and Tyler Kepner and Jim A. from the Yankees blog and Mushinghead and the guy who never saw "Animal House" and the Islander fan who's obsession with Baumbach seems to be waning lately (good) and Otter and Boone.

I'm trying to come up with a slogan for TFS. Here's what I have so far:

"The Final Score. Miss a day and you'll miss a lot . . . of crap."

Maybe Jim or our regulars can come up with something better.

Just goes to show you ... you can't please everyone ...

... unless, of course, some type of epiphany occurs and Islander505 somehow finds it within him to write something favorable.

Maybe if you shill for the home team, J&A ... :)

I'm an Islanders fan, and what Jim and Anthony say about the Isles (right now, deservedly little) doesn't offend me. I happen to think Jim was right about Nolan: determine the direction of the team, and then see whether Nolan can take them in that direction. He made it clear he thinks Nolan's a good coach.

But if some Islanders fans need that fix of the old timers every year, complete with that ridiculous four slash logo (what, someone might forget?), well, they get what they deserve, and the drive for five will never revive. Honor the past, but don't live in it.

Jim knows I disagreed with him about the Arbour game. Let it go.

But I do hope that with the conclusion of this season the Islanders organization looks toward the future in meaningful ways. No, not a new logo or any of those things ... but I can tell you this ...

Much to my utter shock, Destructive Don Maloney came out here as GM and decided not to repeat the pattern of signing grizzled vets of another year. As a result, I think the Coyotes are a year ahead of the Islanders in developing their youth. To the degree that the Isles did turn to youth, it was forced upon them. Pretend the injuries did not happen this year. Do you really think they advance deep into the playoffs? I think they lost a year of development. When your goalie is within three dozen points of two of your top four scorers, you are in trouble.

Comrie: 21-28-49
Guerin: 23-21-44
Satan: 16-25-41
Hunter: 12-29-41
DiPietro: 0-6-6

Besides, if Jim was really mean, he'd make fun of Garth being appointed to the goalie equipment committee.
