Newspapers are dead!

Newsday

Who said newspapers are dead? Oh, right, I just did.

Look at what you got today in Newsday:

-- The Yankees beat the Red Sox, 15-9.
-- The Mets beat the Nationals, 5-2, and Jose Reyes said he was going back to being Jose Reyes
-- The Rangers beat the Devils to take a 3-1 lead
-- The Knicks ended their season and the Isiah Thomas era
-- The Islanders held a Q&A session with their fans
-- Coverage of Long Island high school sports you won't get anywhere else.
And this wasn't a particularly busy day.
And the other New York area dailies had all that stuff (except for the LI stuff that we alone give you).
That's why I always laugh when sports editors get together at some convention and give out awards and decide which sports sections in the country are the best.
Um, the New York sports sections are the best because we have the most to cover and the most passionate sports fans to satisfy. No disrespect to the rest of the country -- actually, a little disrespect to the rest of the country -- but walk a mile in a New York sports journalist's shoes before you pass judgment on what makes a good sports section.
Cover two baseball teams, two football teams, and depending on your place in the NY market, two of three hockey teams and one or two NBA teams, and do it in a market in which you have direct competition with three other dailies plus Jersey and Westchester and WFAN and ESPN 1050 and have to go up against some of the best and most experienced sports journalists in the country.
Then get back to me about how award-worthy your sports section is.
Thanks to rhs.org.uk for the photo.
