Dodgers rub it in to Brooklyn and Cubans make history
These baseball blog items brought to you by Norm, our fine Sunday editor...
* The Dodgers have a new theme song this year, which I believe is played at every home game. It is called, "From Brooklyn, New York to L.A.," and the catchy lyric goes "The Dodgers are the heart of LA, from Brooklyn, NY, to LA." I found one story on the Web that says fans sang along at the preseason exhibition at the Coliseum. So, blog readers from Brooklyn, is this needlessly rubbing it in?
* While El Duque is stuck in a walking boot, Jose Contreras and Livan Hernandez will make history tonight. For the first time in the majors, two Cuban defectors will face each other, according to this Chicago Tribune story.
Also, on Contreras, he now can speak English, according to this MLB.com story. I recall Mariano Rivera in 2004 saying Contreras needed to learn the language to succeed here. Oddly, Contreras' quotes in the story are said through an interpreter. Doesn't that deflate the story just a tad?
