Memphis won't make the playoffs this season -- or next. But the Grizzlies had a very strong draft. Two of those draft picks are on display in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.
O.J. Mayo hit a 69-foot shot at the end of the first quarter against San Antonio on Monday. Mayo scored 18 points, shooting 5 of 17 from the field. He also added six rebounds. But Mayo creating a buzz - even if it's just summer league - is exactly the type of star power that Memphis needs.
Darrell Arthur, who was traded three times on draft night before landing with the Grizz, will be a steal. He scored 23 points against the Spurs.
Teams were scared away from drafting Arthur due to questions about a kidney ailment. But he was viewed as a lottery pick by some teams before the kidney ailment became an issue. So the Grizz seem to have found some luck because Arthur appears fine.
Throw in Rudy Guy and there is optimism in Memphis.

Hey Ken, was Mayo running the point or playing the two?
