Nets trade Williams; Telfair re-signs (UPDATE)

There's New York point guard news, and it doesn't involve Stephon Marbury.

Well, it does involve his cousin, but it doesn't involve a late-night altercation with the rapper Fabolous.

Sebastian Telfair has agreed to a multi-year extension with the Timberwolves. The Nets, continuing to reshape their roster this summer, have traded point guard Marcus Williams to the Warriors for a lottery-protected first-round pick starting in 2011. No room for another backup point guard after the acquisition of Keyon Dooling from Orlando. Dooling is a better defender and ball-mover than Williams proved to be in his two years in New Jersey.

UPDATED 4:46 p.m. A person with knowledge of the situation has confirmed the Williams trade to Newsday, pending physicals and all that jazz. Well, not the Williams trade to Newsday ... we don't have the cap space. The trade of Williams to Golden State. So there you go.

Oh, this has nothing to do with point guards or rappers, but the Spurs have re-signed former Knick Kurt Thomas.
