BREAKING NEWS: Duhon details (UPDDATE)

It's a two-year deal for the full mid-level exception, according to a person familiar with the situation. That means it's in the $12 million range. You don't pay that kind of money to a backup, especially if it's the only free agent money you have to spend.

Tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock. You know what that is. The Marbury clock.

UPDATED 5:53 p.m. Just spoke with Duhon's agent, Kevin Bradbury, who says his client will be the starting point guard for the Knicks next season. "There’s no guarantees in life, so he’s going to have to come in and earn it," Bradbury said. "But we've been given all the assurances that they're not bringing him here to sit on the bench."

Hey Steph, if you're out there, send up a flare.

This is great news.

The Knicks can afford to give him whatever they want as long as the deal is only two years. If Marbury gets the boot now, it's like a 2 for 1 deal. This is addition by addition and addition by subtraction!

I hate adding salary but it's only for 2 years and the Knicks were screwed with the salary cap for the next two years anyway thanks to genius Isiah. The fact that this gets Marbury off the team makes it all worth it. Now if they can just get rid of one of the two dough boys in Randolph and Curry the team might actually win 30 games this year.

Nice move! First Gallinari ( which we have been following for 2 years) now Duhon who D'Antoni has been coaching on Team USA the last few summers!
Looks like Walsh & Coach D are on the same page!

What a beautiful thing! Harmony! In Knick Land!

I believe this is just the start of things to come! Too much buzz around the league! I see moves! We wont know till the ninth for sure but if my gut is correct Randolph will be gone! Maybe Lee & Marbury too!

Lee is obviously our biggest trading chip so he most likely will be the add on to any team taking Randolphs contract off our book!

What deals make the most sense?

Might as well get Chandler, Ben Gordon, and Kirk Hinrich to make the NY Bulls complete.

Chandler would be the best x-bull! Lets get him too.
lol

Excellent move by the Knicks....
Marbury will be gone and then we can focus on Ellis.
Hopefully the personal relationship between Mullin and Walsh will mean something. Maybe Mullin can act like McHale and Walsh can be Ainge. Give us a present!!!
I don't know if I like the idea of Jamal and Ellis on the same team unless one of them agrees 100% to come off the bench. Since Ellis is a better player than Jamal, I can't see Ellis coming off the pine.
I don't think Randolph will make it to the opening game. I do think Curry will....Dantoni thinks he can do something with Curry.
Nate and Chandler should flourish in this system.
There is no way to predict what we're going to do so we just have to wait and see. At least we know that our ownership and our coach are on the same page. We haven't seen that around here in a long time.

Duhon brings in worthy competition for the job. Not a starter, but could start. competition is healthy. No knick job should be safe, and teams usually sign a backup with starter qualitites when a guy is in his last year of a contract. happens in all the sports all the time. Why the big microscope on Marbury? he's still the knicks best basketball player. Today's Fans and Media wouldve run the 86 Giants and 86 Mets outta town. Not too many older people blog anyway, Its just you jealous young cats. Who've never seen a good knick team, so bash Marbury for 3 bad years, since when is 3 years a career.i didn't actually see him play with ANYBODY GOOD on this Garbage TEAM. Pin your wagon to Crawford and Nate, two bums who can't play organized ball. Balkman bum. Lee overrated. I only like Marbury Chandler Curry- guys who look like the position they play. everybody else on the Knicks is garbage. Crawford is mini me in big games.

I welcome the signing of Duhon, he is still young at almost 26, will bring a good attitude and effort, I think the Knicks bid against themselves, there was no deal from Orlando and they spent the whole mid level money.

I don't understand why all of this Knick fans blame Marbury for everything, for God's sake, he only played 24 games last year, guys. Blame the people that sucked and gave Isiah a half effort, whoever repeats that lack of effort should be kicked off of the team .

Why doesn't anybody put some blame on that bum Eddy "The Soft Baby" Curry, we need a guy like Okafor that can defend the paint, score and get rebounds. Curry is the biggest reason for the Knicks failures, he totally sucks and we gave way too much talent in exchange for that bum. Two 1st round picks, one of which was the #2, for that BIG BUM.

As long as Curry is in the roster and getting minutes our team is going to suck. The opponent's guards are going to penetrate at will and he will be right back where we were last year. This guy Curry shows absolutely 0 effort to defend the paint.

Marbury will win the starting job.

I like Rosen's take: (FOX) "Duhon takes care of the ball, has terrific court-awareness, is unselfish, and plays above-average defense. His perimeter shooting has always been questionable but has greatly improved as of late. Plus, the more shots he attempts (as befitting a starter) the better his accuracy will be."

Here's hoping he's right on this one!

I find it unlikely the Knicks will buyout Marbury. He's owed 21 Million and Duhon will be the best back up option we have if we work a trade mid-season with Steph. From a talent stand point Steph is better than Duhon. I could see Nate being used in a sign and trade with Zach Randoplh.

Geez, I hope the Knicks dont buy Marbury out. $21 Million pay-off to not play. Didnt the Suns have a nice playoff run with marbury at the helm when he single handedly pushed the Spurs to the limit his last full season in Phoenix. Granted the Suns improved leaps and bounds following the trade for Nash, but I think Marbury will be fine in Coach D's system.

I never liked Duhon's game all that much anyway. He's a servicable back up at the professional level.

Hold on to Steph at least until February. This Knicks need to try to move either Curry or Zach. My guess is probably Zach, he's not a fit for Coach D's system and style (well neither one of them is). But recall the Suns brought in Shaq last season and he worked out ok in the Suns system (but he still defends and rebounds unlike Eddie)
