Nash says D'Antoni good fit for Knicks

Steve Nash is in New York today promoting some skin products. He’ll have to meet with the product designers and have them come up with something to make Mike D’Antoni’s skin a little thicker now that he has to work here.

Nash declined interview requests from the basketball media about his former coach taking over the Knicks, but he stopped by the Bloomberg TV studios on the Upper East Side to talk about skin cream.

After some banter about Mission Product, which Nash endorses along with Alonzo Mourning, snowboarder Gretchen Bleiler, and others, Nash was asked about whether D’Antoni would be a good fit for the Knicks.

“I think it should be exciting for New York,” Nash said. “I think he’s a terrific coach – extremely bright – and I think he’s going to do a great job with the team. I think the city’s going to love him. I think it’s going to be a breath of fresh air for New Yorkers. They’ve got a lot of work to do. They’ve had so much negativity surrounding the team, and if there’s anyone who can really pull off some optimism and positivity, it would be Mike.”

Nash said D’Antoni was willing to make the adjustments demanded by Suns president Steve Kerr. The thing was, D’Antoni wasn’t willing to make those adjustments while Kerr was going public with them. Twenty-four million dollars later, D’Antoni is the coach of the Knicks.

“I still think he could have won [in Phoenix],” Nash said. “He’s a great coach, so it’s not as though we’re going to get rid of him and snap our fingers and get someone better.”

The Suns reportedly have interviewed Pistons assistant Terry Porter and are expected to interview former Knick Mark Jackson, whose candidacy for the Knicks’ job ended when D’Antoni got permission from the Suns to talk to the Bulls and Knicks.

I live in Phoenix and there was never any question that Kerr/Sarver was going to fire D'Antone. He was making 4 mil a year and Sarver wants someone cheaper, a lot cheaper. Why do you think they are only interviewing assistant coaches? Sarver started dismantling this team the day he bought it by getting rid of Bryan Colangelo and refusing to give Joe Johnson an additional 5 mil for seven years. He would not allow D'Antone interview with Colangelo and Toronto. He is cheap and vindictive.

I purchased Mission Product at Lady Footlocker and it is amazing! I use the lip protector, sunscreen and the anti-friction, and nothing compares these products. I was a fan of Steve's on the court, and now I'm an even bigger fan off the court.
