Thunder and Blight-ning

So much for the afterglow of that scintillating win Sunday against the defending champs. As I said in the paper today, getting Thunderstruck in Oklahoma City last night makes that game seem more about where the Celtics are right now (by the way, they lost again last night, in OT, to the Bobcats) than where the Knicks may be headed.

The concern for Mike D'Antoni has go to be about the focus of a team that is now seven games under .500. If this team truly had playoff aspirations, as Al Harrington insisted after the game, how do you explain such a flatline effort against the league's worst team?

"Coming off a big game against Boston to have a let down like this?" Nate Robinson said as he dressed in a somber Knick locker room after the game.

The Knicks really felt the absnece of energy from Robinson, usually the Energizer Bunny off the bench. His shooting has been way off since Christmas and it is starting to have an impact on the other parts of his game.

“Everybody knows I work too hard on my jump shot to be missing like I am," N8 said after a 4 for 18 performance from the floor against OKC. "Things happen, you’ve got to bounce back.”

Bounce is the operative word. Robinson did pick it up late in the game when the Knicks mounted their furious, though fruitless rally, but he missed several open looks that he usually knocks down. And you know Nate, when he gets into a rhythm with his jumper the rest of his game goes into overdrive. The Knicks desperately needed that kind of night out of him.

He missed his first seven field goal attempts in the game. In six games since Christmas, Nate is shooting 29 percent (25 for 86) from the floor.

“It’s something I just have to get out of," he said. "When you miss shots, you don’t want to force them and keep forcing them. There’s other guys out there making good plays. But for the most part, I just have to be me, keep being myself and play basketball and not worry about misses and makes.”

The rest of the players are aware of Nate's struggles and try to stay in his ear about being aggressive and not letting the misses get him down. But it's not easy.

"They know I’m hard on myself right now," he said. "To me I feel I’m way better than to keep missing shots I’m missing. They’re easy shots, they’re just not falling. As a player, I’ll find a way.”

* * * *

On the road again. Headed to Dallas for today's practice. Will Rogers Airport here in OK City is flooded in a sea of red. OU sweatshirts and hats and signs everywhere.

HAHAHAHA all that crap about Knicks D was just that crap. This team sucks and will do so after 2010 when all we get are Nash, Joe Johnson and Nate . I cant believe I am still a knicks fan.

So jump on the Hawks bandwagon, Virg. No one's stopping you...

Starting swooping your arms in the air like a complete tool and squawk
like a nagging woman...if that's the way you'd rather have it.

NYK still lack the consistency in scoring and they traded one black hole
in Zbo and now they have "Mr. Quicksand" Al Harrington.

Does he actually know you can pass out of the post or is that just his Tazmanian Devil impression in the lane?

hey alan,

while in okc, the memorial to the bombed out federal office building is very interesting, unless of course you feel you that witnessed enough destruction last night. if you can't make that, don't cheat yourself out of a tour of the snipers nest on the sixth floor of the book depository building in dallas. you can cap off your modern american (infamous) history tour with a walk around the 9th ward on monday.

I really think by holding on to Marbury this long is starting to back fire in epic fashion. Here's my Knick fix.

Buy out Marbury if you can't get an offer for Marbury. Or let him fall off your cap and do nothing. (I think this is what their doing) Stupid.

Trade your most valuble trade chip in David Lee to get value before he leaves. Hey how bout em Shot Blockers...

Acquire a veteran - perferably a shot blocker - Camby with a short term contract. DeAndre Jordan, Anthony Randoplh ?

I could name a handfull of losing players on this team that have no heart what so ever that Donnie should be trying hard to ship out. Most of them Isiah gems.

Lose the rest of the year but play all rookies and Sophs like Gallo and Chandler and Roberson or who ever you want to show case before to trade. With no intent on the playoffs.

Acquire a draft pick - may be the Gods will shine on NYC and land us Stephen Curry and make Duhon obsolete. Or a good back up PG.

Get a credible Center again.

Pray... for Le2010

Nate's got to learn that the way to fight through cold shooting is not by shooting behind the arc. He just keeps jacking the threes and it doesn't help. Nate's got to take it to the hole and build some rhythm with the mid range jumper.

Phew

If Nate started his game by picking the opposing guard's pocket and going the other way for a layup, he'd never have these problems. Defense first, and the basket is as big as the ocean.

Classic losing basketball game. One on One, a few long jumpers, stand and watch, reach in late for a foul and call it D. No energy, no communication. An ancient, unwavering rule of losing teams. Flip the script of Tolstoy's famous opening line to Anna Karenina:

"All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way."

And you have: "All losing teams are alike; each winning team, wins in its own way."

You can win by running, you can win by grinding it out in the post and limiting possessions, you can win with the Princeton Offense, or the Triangle. But when you lose, in LA or NY or Princeton, it is always the same way - no D, no sharing of the ball, no communication, no effort.

Basketball is a simple game; simple in its rules, which means, as Clyde is fond of saying, that "basketball is a game of improvisation." By virtue of its simplicity, it gives the player the broadest possible canvas on which to create. The possibilities are endless, but the execution is the thing, and execution always hinges on very small pivots - floor spacing, how fast you cut, when the ball arrives on a pass, where you make a stand as a defender. Bad teams, losing teams, especially after they have enjoyed a win, forget all this and remember only winning. And then, of course, they lose.

Lots of good thoughts here today:

@Rodman9 and Willis: You guys are spot on. I found it very hard to watch Nate last night. For all his athletic ability, he really just doesn't seem to understand the game of basketball. He dominates the ball, falls in love with the 3-pointer, and rarely drives and dishes. That's his problem, not just going cold. Play some D, set up teammates, drive the ball--and he'd be surprised to learn that he can contribute even when his shot isn't falling. Instead, he gave the team nothing last night, then offered up a bunch of tired cliches to the press.

@AR: What in the WORLD does Marbury's situation have to do with ANYTHING? Who exactly do you think would fill that roster spot--Kobe?

@Virgin in ATL: Everyone has the right in an open forum to express anything they want. It's a free country and a free forum. On the other hand, go screw yourself, you tool.

@January - As much as I can't Steph he is better than any of our current shooting guards. He can take the ball to the rack with better efficiency than any of our guards. Now I can't defend him as a self-absorbed jerk. But he is the go to guy and can impact a game. By the way - Who is the go to guy in the 4th?

Nate is an out of control small pint size loser that is turn oven prone like his comrade J Crawford on the dysfunctional Warriors.

@Sec11 - Thanks for the suggestions on OKC. I'm actually already in Dallas now. But two years ago when I was here for Knicks-Hornets, I made my way to the Memorial and did a blog on it. If you go into the archives you might find it, for what it's worth.

@AR - You're right, Steph is better than any of our current shooting guards. But I think this is about something bigger. I think it's about turning a corner, fumigating the place of players like Steph and building a new team culture. Besides, think of it this way: with or without Steph, we weren't going anywhere significant this year anyway. And over the past 4 years, I think, with Steph, we've averaged in the area of about 30 wins per year. I think the real unexpected setback this year was the discovery of Mobley's heart condition after we got rid of J Craw. We really don't have a shooting guard anywhere on our roster now.

The pattern I see:

The Knix can beat or hang with any team that is not fast and young. They snuffed Rondo and beat the Celts, etc.

They can't hang with or beat young fast teams, no matter how bad their records are, such as OKC,

Bottom line: build a young, fast team. DO NOT GET ANY VETERANS -- THAT IS A WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME AND LEADS TO NOTHING.

Want to attract LBJ who wants a long winning career? Get young guys and build a team that will be a power in a few years and will last as a power for 10 years. In my 40 years of watching the Knix and other NBA teams, the teams that try to rebuild with retread vets almost always get nowhere, The rare exception is Boston now, but then Garnett and Allen are still near their prime and they are top 50 all-timers.

DTR

Want to attract LBJ? Offer him a max contract and say, "And now let us know which other superstar free agent you'd like as your #2 and we'll sign him too. Bosh, D-Wade, Yao Ming, Joe Johnson--give us the go ahead and he's yours. Oh, and you'll get to play on the biggest stage, and for the league's most popular coach with players."

I think we all know what they need in terms of players. What I can't seem to understand is how do you lace it up in NY and not put 100% into every play. They are all so lucky to have the talent to make it to that level and then show up and lay an egg? Horrible...I just don't understand. A new coach, some new players same old BS in terms of heart and let down. They need guys that are not head cases and get into this confusing slump funk. They need guys that will do other things when the shot is not falling. A refuse to lose attitude. This loss was so predictable after a great win over Boston. This has been going on for years.

NostraDANus has spoken

Dave - I can see some truth to what your saying. On some nights they're just faster than they are stupid. But the problem with knowing how to coach or rebuild this team right now is that they are simply not playing basketball. The Celtics win was remarkable not because it was the Celtics, but because they internalized a game plan, executed it, and listened and responded to the coach throughout the game. In fact, I saw Harrington in an interview before the game last night talking with almost amazed excitement about the fact that they did what the coach drew up for them to a "T" and it worked. Until they do that every night, I hesitate to draw any conclusions or patterns. Its like trying to sight in a rifle and putting in different ammo on every shot - does the rifle shoot straight? - you have no idea because every round you put through it shoots different. This is what ODB is talking about when he says he doesn't know what he has and therefore doesn't know what he wants to do yet. How could he?

As pointed out above, Nate is the ultimate example of that - he's a different load every night, you never know where he'll hit the target, or if he'll even be on the paper. I'm inclined as well to put him in the Crawford chuck and duck category for life. And no doubt ODB is asking that same question. What the hell good is he if he can't do the same thing two games in a row? You can't eat on potential.

@ Willsin - Exactly! C-O-N-S-I-S-T-E-N-C-Y!! In both performance & actions of players and especially shooting.

Whatchu Talkin 'bout, Oak??

Sorry of the type-o...I meant Willis.

If we begin opening up roster spots, is there any reason not to take a look at a low cost short term Darius Miles?

Realseased by the Grizz...is his suspension up?

Shooting wont and cant always be consistent but effort can... Thats what every Knick has t understand... One thing I will say about Q-Rich is when his shot isnt falling he at least gives effort...
As far as Donnie my biggest issue with him is not cutting Roberson if the kid cant contribute open up his spot for someone who can, the rotation is too short to keep in languishing on the bench

With a new coach, new management, new point guard, new rotational players, plus the absence of Marbury, Crawford and Randolph, I'm shocked that inconsistent effort is still an issue.

You'd think all that turnover would create a new attitude and character.

I thought I saw that change coming earlier in the year, but it never stuck. Sure, these Knicks get into their groove more frequently than last year's bunch, but once they start veering out of it during a game, there's hardly ever any turning back. When they lose steam, they never find it again.

Is it because the players we've acquired have the same heart issues as the ones that have since left? Is the problem with guys who have been here all along? Dare I say, guys like Lee?

It's tough, because now there's no obvious scapegoat. We can't blame it on Marbury or Isiah anymore -- D'Antoni's seemed like a breath of fresh air, Duhon has been a welcome game managing point guard, Chandler's promising, Lee's a machine, our new guys can score in bunches, even Jeffries has been playing good D.

The answer, I think, is the complete lack of leadership on the court. The Knicks just don't have it. And it's almost as if none of the players want to take over as interim captain, as if it's a lame duck position between now and 2010.

Sad, because if they keep this up and don't have a major attitude overhaul, no one will want to come here in 2010 anyway.

@ Willis. BTW, is your handle in honor of the great Willis Reed? He was THE man all men! There was a guy with heart, tenacity, guts, brains and brawn.

They Knix have all role player talent now and no big scoring guard of big intimidator forwards or center. Yeah, they can win 3 or 4 our of 10 but they are waaaaaay too outmanned with a 7-man rotation and lack of superstar talent to look good after expending all they have on a team like Boston. They don't play stupid and the prob is not lack of effort or conditioning -- the prob is lack of talent and depth and support -- the other deeper and faster teams wear them down. Expecting this team to be consistent and win 5 or 6 out of ten is not gonna happen, and it may not happen for 2 or 3 years. Face it, their starting 5 all belong on the bench. Lee, Harrington, Wilson and N8t are great pieces. All I can say is keep them and Let's Go Mets!

DTR

Your right Matt B. We don't have a leader on court who imposes his will on his teammates as well as his opponents. That is exactly what the 2010 goal is. To get that kind of player. N8, Dlee, Duhon, Al are not that type. That is why everyone is expendable towards the 2010 goal.

@ Matt B: you are right about this current team but taking it one logical step further that should lead to the statement that every player on this current team is expendable in some fashion.

This team, for all its flaws, does have fight in it. That is something that made me so bitter last year as a passionate Knicks fan. Last years team would quit in almost every game. This team, for as badly as it comes out and plays on occassion, never quits. It just lacks talent and a leader but those things will come in 2010.

It is imperative that we draft better starting this year. DW knows this, and I have confidence that he will put the right people in place to make it happen. Around draft time teams like PHX, Den, SA, and some of the cash strapped teams will probably be looking to dump their low 1st round picks. I know this is a terrible draft year, but we might want to consider buying some of the those picks and upgrading the talent on our bench. Even a player at 24 in a weak draft has to be better than Rose, James, Roberson or Jeffries.

And wouldn't you love to see what the hell Gallo could do, already? Out 6 months with a strained back?! At age 20?! WTF?!

Yes, 35 years, sure would like to see a healthy Gallo. If his disc does not need surgery then WTF it's taking him so long to play is bizzarro.

DTR

Dave - you are right on both counts

These guys are tired!!! D'Antoni is running them ragged!!! Need more resources. Play more people. Besides, they're not a good team to begin with.

Alan....the book depository is only a few blocks from the arena. It is a museum now and you can go right up to the sniper's nest. Afterward you can walk around dealt plaza and onto the grassy knoll. You can stand right where zapruder shot the famous footage. Behind the grassy knoll are the sewer covers and rail yards where the killers escaped. The whole thing is half the size of a football field, it was like shooting ducks in a barrel. The rest of the town sucks, it's the only thing worthwhile to do in little d.

Yes, JLS125. And there will be hell to pay if one or more of the main players gets hurt from all this over-work. Walsh will look like an idiot for allowing this short rotation to break down. I'd rather see 3 or 4 unproven D league guys in the rotation now to give the 7 relief than see some retread vet step in. But wait......Trade Bait Curry is on the way to save the day!

DTR

I don't know why you guys are surprised this is what bad teams do. Knick fans are not too smart they want classy guy's, who give's a crap its about winning and that's it. You don't role models you need people with heart and that's it. Knicks have heartless and very limited players. Wilson, Nate, and Al only people i would keep. Stop trying to make this into some west coast soft team. Offense Only teams never win and never happen.Daphony clearly doesn't care about team I don't want a team captain who sucks at every level of the game such as Q Brick hes terrible. Get a defensive coach and tough defensive players, its not that hard to build a team and start getting draft picks and do what Portland did.

Guys you are gonna get ulcers following every eb and flow of the season. This year no matter what they say is all about development.

1.Wilson Chandler : Now ask yourself did you expect 14ppg and 5 rebounds per. Don't lie no! None of us expected this from him. Let alone be a starter and oh drop 31 points on the world champions. He is only 21 and almost a rookie. He could be special.

2. Chris Duhon : He may not be long term but he is making a cease for himself. He is better than we all expected.

3. David Lee: He has improved so much. Every time I look up its 13 rebounds, 15 rebounds or 15 points and 20 rebounds. Sadly because of this system and how well he is playing in it, yes fixers he will be gone.

4.Nate Robinson : the man everyone loves to hate right now is no loser you don't get that far at that size and not have the heart of a winner. He is a keeper. If the price is right.

5. Danillo Galinari : Yeah last but certainly not least. This kid will be something special mark my words non-believers. There is no need to rush him they know he will be good. Trust me if he is healthy he will get healthy minutes this year. He might end starting before long.

So there you have it fixers. Everyone else will be gone unless they take pay cuts.

Now next year will be about getting to the second round. I know you don't see it with this group but Donnie and Danny know to land Lebron, Wade, Bosh, Stoudamire or Joe Johnson. Or to land 2 of these players. The players they get via Free agency have to the final pieces to the championship puzzle. because all of those players are better situations now (with the exception of Bosh) that could get better by 2010.

Sorry for the cold reality!!!!!!!

His New Name is R Lee thats all he does Rebound finally you guy see the light Nate shoots us out of the game Robinson should be traded I say Nate for Bayless and a 1st round Pick and something else. He's in the same situation a R Lee but nobody talks about it. I wanna see what Curry Chicken can do maybe he might be good good enough to get traded to Portland for Bayless and we keep R Lee and get rid of Nate for Charlotte's 1st round pick or summin. If R Lee gets traded he's not gonna put up the same numbers. Did he have Double Double Numbers when Zack was here? I also would like to schedule a constructon crew to work on Danilo Gallinari's back and Knicks Fix that Crap last i saw they said he was still a few weeks away but i think the assumption was after the allstar break.

ALL,

What if the Marbury thing never happened and we never made the trades. This team would be pretty good right now. We had two players at every position. If a player was having and off night who cares replace them with the alternate. Imaging having that line-up now!!! We even had a post game

The only problem I have with the current knicks regime is that they gave up two soon on this season. The roster that we went into training camp with the right coach would have been very good. We had Marbury, Nate, Curry, Jeffreies,Chandler coming off the bench!!!!!

The Knicks would have made the playoffs with Randolph & Crawford, but what do you want, a good team that'll never go further than the Conference semis or a rebuilding process that could give a championship in three or four years?

2010's free agency should only be the icing on the cake, and Lee's leaving this summer if we keep him so we have to bring some young talented players. My suggestions are financially realistic, and they would make sense for everybody.

Knicks get:
Eric GORDON.
Blazers get:
David LEE & Brian SKINNER.
Clippers get:
Travis OUTLAW, Anthony ROBERSON and Portland's first round draft pick or a pair of second rounders from NY.

Or

Knicks get:
George HILL & Jerryd BAYLESS.
Blazers get:
David LEE and either Roger MASON or Kurt THOMAS.
Spurs get:
Travis OUTLAW & Anthony ROBERSON.

Or

Knicks get:
George HILL, Andrea BARGNANI & Anthony PARKER.
Spurs get:
David LEE.
Raptors get:
Eddy CURRY, Anthony TOLLIVER & San Antonio’s first round draft pick

Any thoughts Fixers? Alan, seriously, what you think about those suggestions?

Speaking of players...

I'm watching the Nets game and Rudy Gay is the Truth.

Fixers - He has a "Qualifying Offer" in 2010, what does this mean? (Brooklyn's Finest, Biggie Smalls, I'm looking at you). All I'm saying is.... the kid is nice and has to be in the conversation if he can be had in 2010. Let's say the best laid plans of mice and men don't do what they 'sposed to. LeBron stays in the western reserve, Wade prefers warm weather, we've got money, but are trying to do two FAs. Gay as that second guy.

Think about it.

I don't see any 3 team deals happening for the Knicks mostly because the Knicks don't have any assets that can attract solid players coming back. As it stands, I'm happy to know that the Blazers and/or the Bobcats have interest in any of our players. I'm really interested in POR because they have alot of youth. If anything, D'Antoni can add to our depleted bench.

I particularly like Bayless, Rodriguez and Outlaw. If we can get 1 of those 3 I think the team is much improved. I like Bayless because that dude WANTS to win. You can see it in his demeanor that he hates to lose. He's fast with good size, can shoot and can manage a team from the point.

Rodriguez starts ahead of him so he should be pretty good. From what I hear, he's just stuck in the wrong system. I think he would mesh well with D'Antoni. Also, I just think that the best European players other than the Argentinians are the Spaniards especially after watching them in the Olympics.

Outlaw can shoot period...

If Walsh can swing a deal with POR for any of these 3 players I think we'll see SOME improvement. However, I still think that these guys can use an interior presence (maybe, that's Curry) on offense and some fresh bodies to throw out on the floor as a 2nd Unit.

A Qualifying oFfer is just a way to give a team the right of first refusal. Gay is a Restricted Free agent in 10/11 just like Lee is this upcoming season..

@JLS -- I think the Knicks have a bunch of assets that can attract solid players including:

Our reasonably priced contracts
Out young players
our expiring contracts.

NO doubt there will be movement.. Too many rumors around and too many teams that thought they'd be in it are now out of it.. And a bunch of teams that want to contend right away on teh second tier below the elites (Boston/LA) --With the C's showing some cracks these second level teams may see an opening.

@JLS.....

RODRIGUEZ doesn't start.

OUTLAW shoots less than 42% (the same as HARRINGTON and 15% less than LEE), gets less than 4 boards and creates as many turnovers as assists.

PRZYBILLA on the other hand shoots 75% from the field and grabs 8 boards per game (in 4 less minutes than OUTLAW).

BAYLESS plays 8 minutes a game (no doubt much of it garbage time), shoots 23% from the field and 17% from the arc, and averages 2 pts, 1 board, 1 dime and 1 turnover. what is it in him that you see he "WANTS to win"? chicks?

YOU might want to check your facts before posting.

Cosign sec11

Przybilla is a beast. No low post game, but he really makes the most of his limited minutes with defense, shot-blocking, and rebounding - 6 ppg, 8 rpg, and 1 bpg in under 23 min per.

Love to get Fernandez and Ghostface Przybilla in Knicks unis, but unfortunately the Blazers have a competent GM.

No questioning the stats Sec 11, but I think you are not looking at the potential these guys have. Bayless stats should improve with more consistent playing time and Joe P is always going to have a better FG % than a guard or forward b/c of where he shoots from. I don't think anybody believes he is really a 23% shooter. Rodriguez plays behind Blake but is a pretty talented open floor player. A solid backup no doubt. I don't know too much about Outlaw personally but others seem to think he is a potential star.

Przybilla would be a solid C. He'll never be an all-star but the guy is solid. The only one who has a chance to be as good as Lee is probably Bayless. I think Portland wanted him to be a PG and he is learning the position in the NBA. Its a good team and they can't afford growing pains with so many rookies on the floor at the same time.

Truth be told, none of those guys make us a playoff team this year or next. Camby would be good a start.

Damn Nuggets traded Atkins and a 1st round pick to OKL. There goes are chance at two 1st round picks.

@sec11rowH:

I said that Rodriguez starts ahead of Bayless and not that he starts the game. I know that Blake starts for POR...

Maybe when I get hired by ESPN I'll think about stat tracking. But since you've insisted on it:

I'm pretty sure Outlaw would shoot better if he got more than 9 attempts per game. Harrington averages double that amount per game.

Secondly, to compare David Lee AND Pryzbilla to Travis Outlaw is irresponsible considering that Lee is a PF, Pryzbilla is a C and Outlaw plays SF.

Bayless averages 4 shots a game. and you know those are coming in garbage time. c'mon he's a rookie on a heavily loaded young team. clearly he's not in the plans right now as evidenced by the 20 games he hasn't even played in so far this season. he averages 8 minutes a game and that's just inflated because of heavy minutes he got in blow outs. Blake is the most tested PG they have on that team with Rodriguez being the second most prepared. POR is stacked with depth and young assets at practically every position. Kinda like the Giants are stacked at RB. Bayless is 3rd on the depth chart. I'm figuring that either him or Rodriguez could benefit from a change of scenery and more playing time.

sometimes you gotta look beyond the stats and scout the games..

Look at Linas Kleiza tonite for the Nugs.. He loks like a star in the making in the right situation not a 10 minute a night player.

@Knicks4Life:

bayless, rodriguez or outlaw don't make us playoff contenders but it improves our chances by adding depth to a young, mediocre team that is getting run ragged by this offensive system. the knicks look they're running on fumes and need a 2nd unit to share some of these minutes.

i'm telling you guys, OUTLAW ain't the truth, i've seen this movie before. he looks good, but he moves away from the basket too much, aims his shot, doesn't move the ball, and in general plays smaller than his size.

@ JLS....sorry, i didn't mean to be so prickly, just tired tonight.

i do think some people in here are presenting irresponsible trade scenarios involving our MVP. i understand we might have to move him, but we are in a position to get a lot for him (we need to, he is our most valuable, beloved and liquid asset). we can not trade him for pie in the sky, and we can't get smaller in the move (we're already undersized). even 2 of the 3 you suggest are not enough. adding LEE to the blazers roster will make them legitimate contenders for the ring in 2 years. a starting five of oden, aldridge, lee, roy and fernandez is SICK. if they want to own the RFA rights to LEE this summer, then they will have to ante-up big time now. otherwise we just move on, the isiah charity days are over.

@sec .. presenting irresponsible scenarios is a bit strong..

Getting three young assets for our young asset is quite a haul..

Not sure what you would consider an acceptable trade for Lee at this point.
I look at it like this.. We have a number of valuable assets on the team (including expiring contracts, improving players opn rookie contracts and reasonably priced serviceable role players with less than 3 years on their deals) .. D Lee happens to be the one that has appreciated the most in the past 30 games. Due to his pending Restricted free agency 6 Months from now he will not be as valuable.

To get three quality assets for arguably our best asset is quite a haul. I challenge you to identify a similar trade where more was garnered for an asset such as Lee.

I dont know if you saw the Blazers/Sixers game but Outlaw took the game over in the final two possessions and won it for Portland. Bayless hasnt gotten any burn so he is all potential and Rodriquez is an intriguing young point guard..

@ HARLEM - OK, I'll bite...And Mar-baby (me-first PG), Zbo (Black Hole in the post) and CrawFUL (inconsistent master chucker) would have gotten us exactly what this year to attract someone??

I'll tell you...if NYK were lucky: a 1st round sweep straight out of the playoffs.

Now who's that gonna impress?? I MEAN REALLY?

@ Sec11rowH,

In retrospect, you comparing Bayless's stats as a measure
of his value is equal to comparing Chandler's stats from last
year, then concluding that the trade would lack merit, is
not really sound advice. Agent Zero & Kevin Johnson and even
John Starks are examples of players who collected splinters
until they received their chance. I wouldn't mind losing if
we had a young core similar to OKC. I believe our
direction should be similar, OKC has a core of Durant, Green
and Westbrook and is postured to grab another lottery pick.
I'd swap the entire Knick franchise for that type of future.

We have Mobley money and a roster spot to throw at Mourning. If anybody will take care of these chuckleheads and keep them playing the right way, he would.

Jerryd Bayless hasn't played big minutes. True. He also has cracked .500 shooting once this season, going 2 for 3 in 5 minutes against the Kings.

He really hasn't shown any reason to think he can be a point guard. Maybe he can, but he hasn't shown it. So we want to trade our only real rebounder, for a 6'3 shooting guard who may or may not be able to shoot if given minutes. We don't know because he hasn't been able to sniff the rotation on a good team filled with guys a year or two older than him. Oh, and Travis Outlaw. He's alright. I guess.

@Haagen Dasz.- Why do you keep on including Roberson in trade scenarios? He doesn't play for a team that doesn't have enough players at his position. Why would anyone take him when the Knicks will probably just end up releasing him anyway? Unless of course you want to do Roberson for Bayless straight up. I know I'm exaggerating, but Roberson's numbers are actually better than Bayless', and he is also a garbage time player. Apples to apples. I actually like Bayless, but not if you have to give up anything at all to get him. He's all potential at this point. It's funny how so many folks are so down on Galinari, and have written him off because he hasn't played due to injury, and yet people are willing to give the benefit of the doubt to Jerryd Bayless who has played and putting it mildly, hasn't impressed anyone. Talk about overvaluing players.

Eric Gordon is pretty good, but again, he is a 6'3 shooting guard on a horrible team. He may be a good player, but we don't need another undersized scoring guard. Especially at the expense of our only rebounder.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Alonzo Mourning? Is this 1994? Seriosuly.. IF he CAN make it back from his Knee issues he would want to get on a contender

The Knicks haven't found their roles and pecking order. I think part of the reason is that there isn't a clearly best player. A complete turnaround requires for guys to buy into their roles and bust their butt working together as a team. Just look at the Timberwolves. They have some good young talent in Al Jefferson and Randy Foye who have claimed the number 1 and 2 slots in the pecking order. The rest of the team is role players (Kevin Love is looking like another David Lee). They are starting to win now that they are getting the ball in these guys hands at the end of the game. The Knicks have to figure out who their top guys are.

@ bokonon. Bayless is NOT a point guard, this is the first thing you need to understand. And he only got garbage time at the point, now he's starting to play because Roy is hurt and he's making plays. The Knicks will regret passing on him in the near future if they do. By the way, Gordon is going to be a better player than Lee, Gordon's a future all-star. And he's 5 years younger.

The trade the Knicks really need to do is this one though. The Blazers need a scoring center and they are interested in aquiring Eddy Curry.

Knicks get :

Jerryd BAYLESS - 1'993'560$ - 2y
Raef LaFRENTZ - 12'722'500$ - 1y (expiring)
(And a draft pick?)

Blazers get :

Eddy CURRY - 9'723'983$ - 2y
Jerome JAMES - 6'200'000$ - 1y (expiring)

Jerome James has a player option that he most definitely will use next year.

Then send Eddy CURRY & Malik ROSE for BAYLESS & LaFRENTZ' expiring contract. It matches financially and like I said, that'd be a great move for both teams.

@bokonon -

We should keep R Lee and give portland Nate "the Great" and Curry Chicken for Bayless and a hot red sports car. Nate's stock is right around its highest right now cause he has had a few bad games to cancel out his good ones and they want a big so we give up Curry Chicken.

Curry Chicken is on the Grill Tonight

IT WAS GREAT TO SEE CURRY GET SOME GAME ACTION

I REALLY LIKE OUR TEAM

WE STILL NEED A VETERAN BACK UP PG A SHOT BLOCKER AND A GUY WHO CAN GET HIS POINTS EVERY NIGHT NO MATTER WHO WERE PLAYING EVEN IF ITS GOING TO THE LINE

WE WERE STILL A COUPLE OF BODIES SHORT OR A COUPLE POINTS SHORT

WILL SOMEONE ASK DONNIE" W" WALSH
FOR MARBURYS NUMBER
IM SURE HE CAN GET US AN EXTRA 15
20 POINTS EVERY NIGHT WHO KNOWS
MAYBE JUST ENOUGH TO WIN THESE
CLOSE GAMES AND GIVE DUHON A BREATHER

BTW, I thought the rumored trade interest was CURRY to POR and not DLEE...
