Three-way deal?

Just heard this seconds ago...

The Knicks, Warriors and Clippers are talking about a three-way deal that would involve Jamal Crawford, Zach Randolph and Mardy Collins being sent in a cap-space clearing move that would bring in Tim Thomas, Cuttino Mobley and Al Harrington.

The contracts on all three incoming players expire in 2010.

Trying to confirm this now.

Stay tuned . . .

wow

Alan - keep up the good work. much appreciated. exciting stuff.

do you're thing donnie. keep us competative and put us in a position to get lebron.

This is the happiest day of my life!

Will everyone now admit I have been right all along?

This is could be huge.

Get it done ! Get it done !

OMG Crawful and Zero gone?!?!?!?! Am I dreaming?!?!?!?

Does Tim Thomas take over Jamal's Blog?
I hope this Goes down. Then Focus On Stephon Curry
and a big in the Draft!

Who's planning on rebounding if that happens?

Who needs rebounding when you have Tim Thomas Part II?

If this happened, it would be a franchise saving move. The Knicks would become very serious players in 2010 for two top players.

Who cares who is rebounding the damm ball when the cap space is takin care of all at once. The goal is not to make the playoffs as the #8 seed and lose in the first round. The goal is 2010!!!!!!

Would be sweet if they make this deal and we can get Eddy Curry back in shape. Then either trade him or let him get back to being a 20/10 guy.

Keeping 2010 alive
with some Bulljive

Horrible deal...these guys are worse scrubs then we have.

How is it 3 way when GSW gives up Harrington and gets Crawford? It's more like 2 2-way deals.

Beacause there are other parts that are not mentioned, like draft picks????????????

do it do it do it do it do it!

LEBRON IN 2010!!!!!

www.breakindownthegame.com

Hey JSL. did you read the story at all???????????????????????

horrible deal. We gonna throw away both seasons for a chance to land lebron? Why would he want to come here? there would be no one left.

This current team is a playoff team, considering on what we put them through these past few years at least give them a chance to compete in the playoffs and show what they're really made off.

I was looking forward of who shows up and fights in a playoff series. We all know that playoffs bring out the beast and the chicken out of players.

you knick fans disgust me... so great we can have fun for 2 years watching harrington and thomas brick threes game after game!? There is no guarantee we get Lebron in 2010 and last i checked bronski had no rings.... hmmmm...

Great clear cap space cuz it was always the cap that held the franchise back right? (sarcasm)

Gimmie a break!! I hate these moves... cuz when all is said and done I hate these players we are getting!

But I suppose it can't get any worse than it has been so bring on the scrubs!

Its not just about Lebron, although he is priority #1. Look at the free agents in 2010, you cant go wrong with being under the cap. Also this team would be LUCKY to get the 8th seed, and would probably be knocked out in the first round....WOOPYYYYYY. This is about getting that star player and building around him and that star player is not Crawford or Randolph!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who cares if Tiny Tim and Harrington stink? THIS IS ABOUT 2010!! I hope they tank these next 2 years to be honest and shoot to sign TWO FA's in 2010.

terrible deal!!!!

why would lebron come if he didn't have talent around him to support him? and what we get in return is ONLY cap relief. i'd rather do the one on one of crawford for harrington and keep watching randolph's stock go up. we can either dump curry and keep randolph as a talented big to go with lebron, or we could trade zach and maybe a get a first round pick out of the deal.

@Patrick

I completely agree with you. This team, as currently constructed, has no future. At best it is an 8th seed in the playoffs. We want to eventually win championships, not languish in mediocrity for the next 5 years.

So how do you win championships? By acquiring championship-caliber players. How do you acquire championship-caliber players? Through trades, free agency, and the draft.

Since our team is a bunch of scrubs, we will not be acquiring championship-caliber players through trades. I'm sorry, that's just not going to happen.

That leaves us with drafting and free agency. If our team is an 8 seed, say good bye to impact players in the draft. Therefore, it is in our interest to have a bad record the next year or two and at least have a chance of picking up a blue chipper.

Then you have free agency. Right now, we have no cap room, and no chance for free agents. If you make this move, you have a great chance at getting under the cap for 2010 when a host of great players (not just Lebron) are available.

I don't see how you could NOT do this trade if it's really on the table. F this year. It doesn't matter. This is about the long haul.

Wow. I'm extremely conflicted on this deal. On the one hand: We will have cap space up the ars. On the other, any chance of competing for the #8 seed is GONE.

Gotta agree with JSL, though. There's something missing from this report if this really is a three way deal. There have to be some sort of draft picks involved. Let's hope it's the Clips and that they head our way, eh?

If it's a first rounder and falls under the '09 draft, there is a good chance that the Clips could finish last in the league. Between that and us missing the playoffs, that's a WHOLE LOTTA ping pong balls.

Going to see King James at MSG next tuesday. This would totally change the way I watch that game...

I think some of you are taking this 6-5 record too seriously. This is a 30 win team that wouldn't have made the Playoffs.

oh no not t.thomas again !!!!!!!!
and cuttino "s.francis" mobley

damn
DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN

Trade away the Knix only shooting guard? Q-Rich will be their shooting guard???? Cripes! Jamal's D sux but he wins games in the 4th quarter more than most other Knix, but he is inconsistent. Seems crazy to me. Harrington and Thomas are scrubs. Whatever.....clear the salary cap and wait for Godot in 2110.

DTR

Sergio is right on target again. We are 6-5 and havent played ANYONE! We were not going to the playoffs this year or next, quit making that stupid argument.

Also the crap about Lebron not coming if we dont have talent around him is stupid, just look at what the celtics did.

DTR-

Do you think this team with a few minor tweaks can ever win a championship?

If not, where do you think we are going to get the players we need to do so?

I'm just curious to hear what your plan is that doesn't involve clearing cap space.

You don't need to target one player for clearing out bad contracts and gaining financial flexibility to make sense.

I was going to write a longer post, but Across the Hudson pretty much summed up what I was going to say. "This team, as currently constructed, has no future. At best it is an 8th seed in the playoffs. We want to eventually win championships, not languish in mediocrity for the next 5 years." Exactly.

Oh yeah - Lebron is probably bummed he isn't going to be able to play with Craw and Zach.

Why would the clippers have any interest in Randolph? They have both Camby and Kaman. Plus GS is so guard heavy, it would make more sense for Randolph to play alongside Biedrins in GS (Monta [when he returns], Sjack, Magette, Randolph and biedrins), and for crawford to solidify the 2 guard spot for the clips (baron, crawford, thornton, kaman, camby sounds like a decent lineup too). Both of those lineups are more advantageous to the Cali teams.

Personally for the knicks, I think shipping off Zbo is retarded. We are getting out rebounded night in and night out, and we lose 12.5 boards a game in randolph for a soft pf who has never averaged over 7 boards a game (and that was in 39 minutes pg). Are we really that confident that Jeffries will be a defensive and rebounding force?

Granted we get cap space, but there are tons of other ways to achieve this without trading the player who has been most effective in the D'antoni system. We should have just sent off crawford, and played harrington at the SF/PF. And maybe even use chandler at the 2 spot from time to time.

Two things:

1) Alan, how much longer are you going to leave us hanging?! I'm going nuts with anticipation over here! I don't think me and my brother have ever texted so many scenario's so quickly in our LIVES.

2) Anyone know what our salary looks like at the end of this year? I'm just saying if we clear Jamal and Zach now that's a lot of space. We also have a very good chance of ridding ourselves of Curry. If we can't trade him, he might be so miserable that he'll choose to exercise his player option at the end of the year.

My point is this: the free agent class this year includes a lot of solid veterans who we could get for a pittance compared to the salary they commanded in their prime and we may actually get some solid performance out of them if we include team options in the contracts.

all u knicks fans are stupid Even if this clears space for u to sign LeBron what do u think he is goin to do for you if u watch carefullly the man can't make a shot that is not a layup and thats why he is yet to win were he is he is a dynamic scorer from the paint but u force him to short jumpers he is just average

here's the best link as far as salaries go...

http://hoopshype.com/salaries/new_york.htm

if the knicks move both these guys and take back contracts that expire in 2010, then they will take 27 mil off the books that year and only be committed to 18 mil (11 of which are eddy curry's who i think will be traded by then). so perhaps that leaves nyc enough for both lebron and bosh???? if this trade goes through i would think that's what's on walsh's mind.

I think it will be this.........Crawford to Golden State, Collins and ZBo to L.A., and Mobley Thomas and Harrington to NY.

If I remember correctly didnt Thomas play for the Suns towards the end of the year a couple of years ago and he played extremly well for them under there offense?

You people who hate this trade are so funny..Who cares how many points Zach scores and how many rebounds he gets if we suck? Why would a good player on a bad team mean anything to you?

Make the deal and make a light at the end of the Isiah crap tunnel

Conflicted is indeed the word I'd use to describe my feelings.

Thomas and Mobley are throwaways. Harrington is good, and given the off-loading of Z-Bo's salary, I'm fine with that.

But the probably is, our other two problems -- Curry and Marbury -- are still there. I guess patience is the key.

As much as I have started to like our team (seriously) this year, the goal is 2010 and Lebron and Bosh (we can get both if we do it right). Having Chandler as our #3 scorer by then.

Anyway, we'll see how it shakes out. I should have waited to get my seats for the Knicks game here in Sacto on Dec. 13. LOL. I could have scalped courtside for pennies with the rosters these teams are sporting. heh.

@michael

Great post Michael, hey you know what they say. You NEED 2 superstars to win the championship. Lebron/Bosh equals that. Even if it wast Bosh just take a look at all the players that will be free agents that year. Its like that comercial for the lottery where the store sells sports teams and yachts and helicoptors.......PLEASE let this go through!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Espn Trade scenario.

GSW: J.Crawford

NYK: C.Mobley, T.Thomas, A. Harrington

LAC: M.Collins, Z. Randolph

Guys need to stop talking about Lebron James. The Cavs have become a much, much better team this season with Mo Williams. Look at the damage they're doing. Lebron is only leaving them if he's going to a team that has the pieces to win a Championship. So we'd all start praying that when Gallinari turns into a stronger, better Dirk Nowitzki or something like that. You need to remember that the Knicks have handed over some draft picks to Utah, and if they continue to play decently they'll not have a high enough draft pick of those that remain to get a high impact player -- think a PG like Ricky Rubio.
If you think it's about economics. unless Nike pays him serious money for being in a major market he's not leaving Cleveland. Cleveland can offer him the most money in terms of years and dolalrs. I think the way the free agency rules are rigged they can offer him like $30 mil more than any other team. He's already a fairly big brand. Playing for the Knicks might make him marginally bigger but winning an NBA Championship and dominating other teams every night so that it's the Lebron James show on ESPN and NBAtv is what matters. Sorry, but if the Knicks don't get the pieces, forget about it.

Espn Trade scenario.

GSW: J.Crawford

NYK: C.Mobley, T.Thomas, A. Harrington

LAC: M.Collins, Z. Randolph

great trade for the warriors who needs a guard.

good trade knicks for cap relief and ticket for the LBJ sweepstakes. very run and gun versatile under Mike D's system

for the clips...there loaded in the front court with Kaman, Camby and now Randolph. i suspect another move should be coming. Maybe Kaman for Gerald Wallace?

You need to stop telling us to stop talking about Lebron coming here which is inevitable. By the way, 50 > 30. Nike will pay him $50 million more if he plays in New York.

Guys, with this trade the Knicks will have enough cap room to sign 2 TOP players in 2010. It's not just about Lebron James.

why would the clippers want Randolph when they already have Kaman and Camby?

This trade is not about LBJ! We have many options after 2010.
Building from the draft, and just being under the Cap is
unfamilar territory for this Franchise. Now we need to get
someone to PICK the Draft Pick(s) next year and we may
be OK.

Love the trade if we get some draft picks in return. The players we are getting are not supposed to make us better this year or next. But the cap room and financial flexibility it gives us is amazing. Draft picks (at least 2) thrown in as well makes our future look extremely bright. We could have 2 1st round picks this year and one for next year. Mobely can score, he isn't JC but he can score, and is more of the spot up shooter we need. Now all you D. Lee fans can see him start and a platoon of Harrington and T. Thomas at Center. I'll miss Zach, he was really coming on this year, but we are barely a .500 team with him against light competition. If you want your team to win a championship we have to get out of the here and now and start looking towards the future. This trade does just that, I LOVE IT. We have Duhon, M. Rose, James, Marburry, and Q (I think) coming off the books the next two years as well. Lee and Nate may be gone. Curry is probably the next to go. Amazing. And for everyone saying we will tank with JC gone, how many games did we win with him?

And Camby and Kaman can't play together, do you guys even watch games?

Just got a mobile alert that knicks traded Crawford for Harrington

@ Patrick
Tim Thomas had a heckuva run with the Suns, maybe he can duplicate it, but I like Thorton a whole lot!!...We still gotta let Steph go in order to get PE Jr. back though

espn has story of straight up crawford for harrington...no mention of 3 way deal.

If cap clearing and future draft picks are the goals. Then we are doing are remodeling and throwing in the towels now for 2010. Craw goes so does 90% failure of a team. No need to clean a room when you have to clean the house.

1. Buy out Marbury or trade and pay whats left over on his contract with the other team . Other option let him play out his contract and look fools till the end of the year. 20Mil of the cap and some what useful but over paid PG.

2. Trade David Lee for a expiring contract and a first round pick or multiple second round picks.

3. Do this crazy deal that sends Tim "I hate being a Knick" Thomas back to the team he was on some years ago and ,Cuttino "Over the hill" Mobley and Al "The Journeyman" Harrington to the Knicks for Zach "The Zach Hole" Randolph, Jamal "playing scared" Crawford and Mardy "I just glad i'm in the NBA" Collins

4. Q-Gone

5.Let the remainder contracts play out or used as trading.

seems like a straight one for one deal

im praying alan is right instead of ric bucher

Across the Hudson,

I am a Joisey Boy too. Yes, the Knix need an overhaul at every position and tweaks galore. If they can't get young players as they make tweaks and if they don't have s shooting guard for 2 years, that will be depressing, especially of Q is their shooting guard. And if they dump Lee, a young player with smarts and a big upside, that will tell me they are not building for the future, they would rather get retreads like they have done since the mid-70s. What is Walsh's plan for building a championship team?????????? Minor tweaks won't do it. I don't know what kind of players he wants. Who does? We might not know for 2-3 years. That's my 2 cents......

DTR

There's always the possibility of a 2nd trade

Harrington for Crawford straight up with no other teams involved and with no draft picks included? Huh? Am I missing something? Are there other trades out there? Are they going to play Q-Rich 35+ minutes a game now? For all of Crawford's weaknesses and even for the major plus in salary cap space Crawford has to be worth more that AH.

While it looks like a straight one for one deal, don't be surprised if the Randolph and Collins for Mobley and Thomas deal happens at a later time.

It still works from a salary perspective and we have a game both tonight and tomorrow in which we need a roster! This might be a practicality thing in which the teams hold off until sunday or monday so that the knicks have players to play with for the next two nights.

Its on Donnie's performance review to trade Eddie Curry???

For all those saying let's tank next two years, lets not forget Summer 2010 we have no first round draft pick. Plus we need to look somewhat good for FA's. So I'd say tank this season, get Mullens or Rubio, then next year, be respectable so Utah can only get a mid first rounder out of us.

As far as Jamal goes, good riddance, the guy was a career loser who played streetball. He can't fit into any system that doesn't allow him to go one-on-one. You can't win a championship, or even a playoff series, with his defense. Opposing SG's torch us. Come on guys.

If it's true about Harrington for Craw straight up, I'm not liking it.

Do we plan on bringing Steph back after all that's happened already? If not, surely we don't play Q-Brick 35+ mins.

They could'nt get GS to throw in a draft pick to get rid of a dude that's not even in playing?

I like Harrington...don't get me wrong. I always liked his versatility and toughness, but it seems that we could've gotten more.

There's gotta be more to come..

OBTW.....

What ever happened with the initial proposal.....Rose for Harrington straight up?

JB,

where did you get the mobile alert from?

JB,

where did you get the mobile alert from?

Out of curiosity...who do you prefer the Knicks getting in this year's draft? Mullens or Rubio? I can't decide...I lean towards Rubio but I'm not sure....thoughts?

I guess a couple of weeks not being the biggest joke in the league was too long. Thomas, Mobley, Harrington... that's some punchline.

Mixed feelings. Yes I like the cap moves, but
I do wonder what will happen in 2010? First
we have to sign at least one of those big
ticket FAs but we also need a team in place that will make them want to come to NY.

Im guessing none of these players that we would aquire would be around after 2010.
We would have to build a team from scratch
to attract blue chip talent who are only going
to be interested in playing for a contender.
How are we going to do that without some
kind of a core in place? Its possible over the span of a couple of seasons, but over a summer? Some may want to point to the
Celtics moves that made the big three but they had some good role players in place.

Besides, I really don't want to see Tim Thomas as a Knick again, anyone remember this?

He had better numbers than Q but he was another Knick who did a lot of talking but wouldn't back it up. I'm tired of poseurs playing for the Knicks.

Ill have to mull this over, maybe one of you can convince me that this is a good deal. I think we can do better for Zach and Jamal talent wise.
Maybe we are putting too many of our chips on 2010.

the middle link above will get you the pic.

This trade is Garbage!!!

The team is improved by 100% aleady.

All we needed was an athletic big for defense and we are competing in the east.

Trade everything in hopes that we get a player in 2 years?!!!!

Garbage! Tim Thomas is Garbage

Indiana Didnt win Shot under Walsh. FU

Tarun,

I get mobile alerts to my cell from ESPN.

Tarun,

I get mobile alerts to my cell from ESPN.

When our lineup in 2010 is:

PG: Stephen Curry
SG: Dwyane Wade
SF: LeBron James
PF: David Lee
C: Chris Bosh

I don't think any of you are going to be complaining that we couldn't watch Crawford and Zach Randolph for these two years make the 8 seed.

That is the stupidest thing I have ever seen. How in the world is our lineup supposed to look like that in 2010? Shouldn't you be blogging at the Post with that foolishness.

The Orlando Magic primed themselves to be able to sign Tracy McGrady, Grant Hill and Tim Duncan in 2000. They had the cap space to do it.

Granted, Duncan didn't sign, but he could have.

The Knicks are setting themselves up for the exact same scenario.

JAMES, WADE, BOSH: 2010
