Marbury: 'Nothing's going on'
ESPN Radio's Andrew Marchand -- a loyal Fixer, as you all know and a hard-working field reporter -- caught Stephon Marbury this morning at the team's shoot around and confronted him about the reports that he and the Knicks are working toward a buyout.
Here is the transcript. The interview aired on ESPN Radio this morning.
Marchand: What’s your hope coming out of the meeting with Donnie?
Marbury: “Nothing’s going on right now.”
Marchand: Berman wrote you were discussing a buyout and it could be done within the next week:
Marbury: “Nothing is going on.”
Marchand: So the story is wrong?
Marbury: “Nothing’s going on right now”
Marchand: Did you meet with Donnie?
Marbury: “Yeah, I met with Donnie. Nothing’s going on. Everything’s the same.”
Marchand: Do you expect anything to change in the near future?
Marbury: “I don’t know.”
Marchand: Did you ask Donnie if you can talk to other teams?
Marbury: “Nothing is going on right now.”
Marchand: How should I take that as?
Marbury: “Write what you wanna write and say what you wanna say. I don’t know. Nothing’s going on right now.”
Marchand: Was that the first time you guys have met since the summer?
Marbury: “That was the first time we met where we were talking.”
The interview ended there.

The Knicks would not mind letting him go to a west coast team since he spends most of his time working out on the west coast and won't see him much. I say these are my final destiations for steph.
1. Golden State
2. Timberwolves
3. Heat
4. Spurs
5. Hornets
Would be Heat or G State, Either way any money we can save on this slapbone is a bonus, plus frees a spot for PEJR
Keeping 2010 alive
with some Bulljive
Good riddance to this guy. He is a clubhouse cancer and a disaster for any team that brings him on. He is the hoops version of jeremy shockey.
that stuff with the intern was utterly disgraceful. Get this guy outta here asap!
Good for D'antoni, he knows what a bad team mate Mbury is. Starbury has never won anything, anywhere. He is a loser and a bum, get him out.
The Walsh regime is not looking so hot these days:
--Marbury should have been cut in June. Now we have a circus to deal with AND Marbury will still get every penny.
--the number six pick in the draft, the one Walsh said they can't screw up, is out indefinitely, maybe for the year, maybe longer.
--Jerome James is still on the team.
--the best players on the team are Chandler and Robinson, yep, those are Isiah's players.
Other than the mid-level signing of Duhon, Walsh had done absolutely nothing to improve this roster.
Can't see GS with Don Nelson and Stephan Jackson already there bringing in Steph. The T'wolves yeah right, been there, done that. The Spurs other than their brief flirtation with Dennis Rodman (see how well that worked out) usually don't bring in bad character guys. Heat aren't one player away. The Hornets would be a team that Marburry could make a difference on but . . .does Byron Scott really want to deal with Steph. He already had his hands full with J-Kidd costing him his job. Does NO you also really want Steph playing behind Chris Paul? I'm actually thinking the best destinations for Steph are Toronto, Dallas and Utah (stop laughing). All three are probably a scorer like Steph away, have good inside presences to make up for his defensive deficiencies and strong leadership on the team (including coaches known for shutting down troubled players) to keep him in check. They wouldn't need him to start on any of those teams either as their starting PGs are clearly better than him and all love shooters. Its just too bad that we mortgaged our future (Wasn't it 3 # 1 draft picks?) for Steph and now we are going to give him away. We should at least get a 2nd round draft pick just for the sake of justice.
Gallinari's Problems Mental?
Nov 14, 2008 11:03 AM EST
Some people within the Knicks' organization are beginning to wonder if Danilo Gallinari's back problems could be mental.
"It's unclear what's causing the pain to linger and why it keeps re-occurring, which is why we intend to focus on different elements," an Arn Tellem confidant said. "As for the MRIs, both doctors read them the same way, and both concur Danilo does not need to go under the knife."

Great..now we have a bust with a lower IQ than Balkman was
accused of having!
I Can't believe Walsh
is letting this marbury controversy
continue over 5 or 6 million dollars
now if they were going to save 10 or 15 mil
off of his contract then i would understand
but 5 or 6 mil
is it really worth all this bad publicity?
buy this fool out
and go sign Pat Ewing Jr
Why is Ewing Jr still available? If he's as good a prospect as everybody here thinks why hasn't some team snapped him up? I'm hoping he's holding out to play for the Knicks but its more likely he's just not that good (wasn't even a starter in college)
jp -- im thinking that the knicks are talking to him behind the scenes telling him to just wait it out while they get rid of marbury.
maybe it's wishful thinking, but seems pretty logical, especially considering that he's not playing for a european team or nbdl team either....
I've been calling for a buyout since the summer, mainly to prevent Marbury from weaseling his way back onto the floor (that was before I knew that D'A would take the long overdue hardline) but also to short circuit the circus before it developed. Clean break, everyone moves on. I could even live with what's been happening - keep him around in case someone offers a pick or something towards the deadline, but keep him away from the team. Remember D'A's comments about flogging a dead horse - eventually Marbury in street clothes becomes tired and everyone moves on. Now its suddenly decided that the Knicks WILL buy him out, if a couple of bucks can be saved, and he finds himself a new team. Which means the whole keep him inactive until people tire of beating the dead horse line of reasoning goes up in smoke, and suddenly he's front and center in the news again. What did the no-buyout/inactive strategy accomplish exactly other than to antagonize Marbury's fans (inexplicably they do exist and the team must know this) over this perceived disrespect to their hero, and to drag out a situation that should have been resolved months ago.
Knicks4Life - never thought of Toronto (which is weird since I keep an eye on them) - the more I think about it the more it seems like a good call. Two things they are lacking - any kind of creative wing scoring and any experience backing up Calderon. Marbury could provide more pop than the Moon/Parker duo and play some point as well. Not sure how that plays out with Mitchell (who I think is overrated) who can be a difficult personality and may be creeping towards the hot seat. But worth exploring.
david - sssshhhhh... Its a secret, but Walsh has a plan...
That's me above. Bloody auto-fill.
The NY Times made a good point we've overlooked. Because the Knicks are over the salary cap, every dollar saved in a buyout is actually two dollars...because every dollar over the cap is taxed dollar for dollar. So if the Knicks can cut $3 million, it's actually $6 million in savings. That's a lot of dough.
Regardless. Good win tonight.
Pete,
Gus Johnson and Clyde really like Duhon and usually I put a lot of stock in their ability to evaluate talent. Clyde's book "The Game Within The Game" is excellent in that regard. Gus is also amongst the best commentators and observers of talent. However, I think their praise of Duhon is overdone. Perhaps, they also have a different measuring stick.
Still, perhaps I am missing something. Duhon's performances in the Dallas, Boston, Milwaukee, Cleveland and Detroit games will tell me what I need to know. Those games will test Duhon's ability to run the offense the way it should be run against teams that play defense and like to force tempo. These are games where Duhon will need the confidence he has built playing against the youngish, non-defensive dregs of the league.
I will be looking for how fast he gets the ball up the court to the wings? How well will he reads the defender's proximity to the passing lanes before he passes the rock and gets picked off? Will he aggressively try to penetrate? When he penetrates will he create plays or toss the ball into defender's hands as he is committed with both feet on the ground? Will he be able to hit the tre to stop the defenders from packing into the paint? Will he control the spacing so that the ball moves too fast for defenders to double without someone in the corners being open for the easy tre?
In other words, will he do his job or disappear under real defensive pressure? I admit, I expect him to disappear against superior talent. I am not guessing. That is his history.
I am looking at very specific things when I consider whether Duhon was a good pick to run this team as opposed to a frantic move, just to make sure that Steph can be dumped or chumped.
I think Duhon looks good when his passes to open sharpshooters on the arc result in points. Not many teams guard the arc. When the arc is guarded and the shots don't go in, Duhon literally disappears because he's not aggressive enough to score and add a different element to the offense. Duhon is also a good rebounder, but the long bounds gathered from missed tres favors the guards who are 10 to 15 feet away from the basket when the shot comes down.
The bottom line is, if I am off base, it will show starting tomorrow and be real clear by December 7th when DukieHon plays his old team, the Bulls.
Here's hoping I'm wrong.

As some of you know, especially those who didn't get it because they refused to see the truth and the inevitable problems caused by allowing the Marbury problem to fester, I agree that Marbury should have been gone a long time ago. The most recent effort which included the NBAPA indicates that Walsh is still trying to get it done while saving face and not allowint Steph to feel like he is a winner. This is clearly personal because it is bad business. Personal battles play poorly in public. (No I am not suggesting that Walsh is taking it personally, but he is personally carrying water for the people who are). But in order not to look like total idiots by releasing Steph between now and February they need to look like they're saving a couple million or get a concession that Marbs is not going to make an Eastern conference foe (like the Celts) a Champion. Can you imagine the bad press and bad will directed at Walsh if Steph was holding the O'Brien Trophy with Rajon Rondo and Sam Cassells.
I said it during the summer and I'll repeat it again now -- Walsh is handling the Marbry situation very poorly. This is not what Stern meant when he said the Knicks needed "intelligent management."
Good Win tonight.
6-3...
now the we get to see
what the knicks are made of
Dallas and then Boston
@lives
i totally agree with you
good point.
"Great..now we have a bust (ROOSTER) with a lower IQ than Balkman was accused of having!"
ITS MENTAL AS IN LACK OF CONFIDENCE
THINKING TOO MUCH THAN JUST PLAYIN BALL
MENTAL AS IN LACKING MENTAL TOUGHNESS
GO BACK AND FINISH GRADE SKOOL SO U CAN UNDERSTAND WHATS BEING SAID BROTHER.
BALKMAN IS THE LOWEST IQ PLAYER OF ALL TIME.
CANT DENY THAT
CANT ARGUE WITH THAT
CANT REVERSE THAT
@ TYRONE W
Are you surrounded by Bar's?
Skool = School. Your IQ is amazing.
Can't reverse that is correct.
Buying out Marbury is so, so stupid.
Come trade deadline you can trade him for dudes with one more year on their contract plus a first rounder (or such). This gets another team under the cap this year, and uses the Dolan money to brighten our future.
It was widely reported that Isiaih Thomas helped scout and evaluate the Italian Busto. In fact some moron here even suggested that Zeke was still pulling the strings from behind the scenes and that it was his call who to draft.
Well, thanks a lot again Zeke for the wonderful present.
You did it again.
In terms of Walsh's handling of the Marbury situation. Marbury refused to negotiate the buyout earlier. "I'm getting ALL my money!" or words to that effect. So they sat his butt down until he became reasonable. He'll get whatever he gets from another team and the Knicks foot the bill to make it match his full salary. He still gets his $21 million. The way he wanted it was to get $21 million from the Knicks and then go out and get some more from another team. NOT reasonable. Sure, it's only a few million the Knicks end up saving. ONLY a few million. 5 to 6 million when you include the salary cap. If Steph was a reasonable man, he would already be playing somewhere trying to rehab his rep. Oh well. Seems like the man has a history of making poor decisions.
@ Emmanuel
Worth Repeating BY MODI:
They told you a lie. An outright lie. That’s right. The media — and especially the New York media — has been lying to you about…
“The Eddy Curry Trade”
They told you that Eddy Curry was traded for two 1st round picks to the Chicago Bulls that became young prospects Ty Thomas and Joakim Noah. They told you over and over and over and over. And if you repeat a lie long enough it becomes an accepted truth — or at least one more underhanded tool to smear Isiah Thomas.
The truth is that Isiah traded only one first-round pick for Curry, and swapped the other first-rounder. The Bulls picked Noah with the 9th pick, and at 23 the Knicks picked… Wilson Chandler — the final draft pick of Isiah’s GM tenure. And even Thomas’ fiercest critics acknowledge that his eye for drafting young talent is virtually unmatched (McGrady @9; Nate Robinson @21; David Lee @30; Ariza @43).
Thank you again ZEKE for Wilson Chandler!
Lives - your list of specifics, which I think will make excellent watching, should indicate how good of a point guard (in the purest and most complete sense of the term) Duhon actually is. Really the only way - I'm not a big believer in box scores as the measure of a player's worth (the stats that do interest me are efficiency based, which is why I despise chuckers). Don't misjudge me - I don't think Duhon is a future franchise cornerstone, but I think I'm a little less down on his worth as a stop-gap then you are. I do agree that going against tougher opponents will do much to reveal his ceiling in this system.
Emmanuel - there is a difference between a player that is out with an injury and one that lacks NBA talent. I have been one of Isiah's most vehement critics here, but I'll concede that his draft record is the one thing that prevents his dismissal as a complete managerial failure on every level. He looks even better in this regard when his picks play for real coaches. In fact, if Isiah scouted Gallo and recommended drafting him, that actually makes me more confident in his prospects if/when he is healthy.
With all due respect, how about all the bums that Zeke trader for?
And Mardy Airball Collins?
And the ones draft picks that got away like Monta Ellis or Bynum.
One more year and Zeke would have unequivocally shattered Chandler's confidence and probably destroy his career.
So Isiaih recommended Gallo instead of Lopez??? Isiaih had Walsh's ear from what some moron reported.
Isiaih was supposedly still calling the shots from what a very ignorant blogger posted this summer.
You win some you lose some.
Isiaih had some good draft picks and some bad picks.
In fairness, Gallo was probably selected due to Coach Mike's relationship with Gallo's dad. Why choose an unknown European, especially with our bad experiences with them when you have a known commodity in Lopez. We've all seen him play in college and NCAA tourney. (BTW: Brook almost got a double-double last night. 25 points plus 4 blocks against the Hawks not too shabby frontline.)
lmao
he wasn't callin the shots but walsh ask for his advice
alot of nba teams f-them selves picking these euro player
cuz of dirk an some other players success
u alwayz go for the help u need an a big man would of been great

i hope next year we pick 1 of the top 2 euro players an many years to come mayb we can strike a real pro.lmao.lmao...
marbury didn't suck all them years it's called bad management
i guess randy moss was the reason oakland stinked when he was there
nope it's called bad management
but to please some of u very intellgent knick fans yup marbury is the reason the knicks sucked it wasn't bad trade coaching etc...
stay tuned for more KnowLedge
Emmanuel - Isiah's trading/FA signing record is another matter entirely - he was historically bad, and the reason why the Knicks are so burdened with terrible contracts. And the coaching (game management, substitutions, player development, strategy, etc) was equally awful. But that is ancient history - why beat that dead (or heavily tranquilized) horse?
steff to mavericks....
This is towards Stephon Marbury: forget the money - or you'll be wasting the whole season on the bench. And Antoine Walker is not playing, either, for whatever team he's in. How about this: if the coaches won't play them, trade them, rather than make them suffer! I may-as-well just go on home, rather than waste my time where I'm neither wanted noe needed. Take it from me.
