Crawford-Harrington done...(UPDATED)
It's official. As Newsday reported this morning, the Knicks have just completed a deal that will send Jamal Crawford to the Golden State Warriors for Al Harrington.
The Knicks haven't announced anything yet and I'm told by an NBA source that is because the Knicks may not be done yet today....
HOWEVER....the Clippers-Zach Randolph scenario we mentioned in the previous blog might not come to fruition.
Hey, that's why we call them rumors.
Right now as it stands, I can't figure out trading Crawford, a guard, for Harrington, a forward. You remove a bona fide scorer and leave a hole at the two-spot. If the Knicks are sincere with their stance that Stephon Marbury is not going to play regardless of situation, then you really are scraping the barrell in the backcourt.
Do you go with Duhon-Robinson? Do you move Quentin Richardson to the two?
Or do you unchain Marbury and open Pandora's Box?
Very curious situation here.
Stay tuned....

Awesome job out-scooping the Post. Way to go Alan!
Alan got a legit scoop!! Everyone is crediting you with calling the JC for AH trade correctly after the post called it M. Rose. Good job after a tough summer of misleads.
Stop being so vague Alan what more is coming, call it a rumor and let us know!!!
Now, Donnie Walsh can use David Lee and Malik Rose's expiring contract to get rid of Eddy Curry, Quentin Richardson and Jared Jeffries. The main goal should be to sign TWO MAX FA'S in 2010.
good trade, for both talent and contract reasons.
Alan got it right. Peter Vescey was way off.
Also, see I told you so. You can make trades without involving David Lee right off the bat.
Stay tuned for more knowledge.
@ november (from the previous post)....
no one said anything about building overnight in one summer. don't forget we're building a core of complementary pieces (chandler, robinson, lee, harrington, duhon) who when mixed with 2 all stars could challenge for a championship. getting enough under the caps to get two max guys is donnie's plan.
as for tim thomas and cat mobley, there is no deal done yet on that. i also think we should do better than that for zach. i'd like zach to be an all star this year and bring back a top draft choice and perhaps a role player. if zach keeps leading the team in scoring and one of the tops in the league in boards, that could very well happen.
as for getting more for crawford, the guy has been in teh league like 8 or 9 years and has never even smelled the playoffs. teams dont; pay out big for guys like that. i happen to love him and will miss him (despite his lack of d, but his crossover is ankle breaking), but i don;t think we could have gotten more for him. the fact that we we get a good player at both ends of the floor, and are now 6'8 or taller at all three front court positions, AND that his contract is gone by 2010 are all great things for the knicks.
By benching Marbury, we improved already.
There needs to be a Plan B. What if Lebron or the other big name free agents cannot be lured to come here? Then what?
Remember how Magic wined and dined Duncan and at the last minute, Duncan backed out. Billy Donovan left million of dollars on the table. Pitino planned everything on landing the 1st pick while with Celts.
Let's not pull all our eggs in one basket.
I read that there was talk of including Belinelli in the deal. Is he coming along or is it just Harrington-Crawford straight up?
Belinelli might be a good fit at the 2
this is actually making New York Knickerbocker basketball fun again.
So Alan,
Who will take up Crawford's Newsday blog?
I can live with this trade. To be honest, after the great start Jamal had and some of the bad habits he was starting put behind him I thought
that Crawford might be actually changing his game but the last two games I watched (League Pass lost transmission to last game) he
started falling back on his playground moves when the Knicks had a comfortable lead. The first game I thought that its only one game but when he did it for two games in a row, alarm bells started to go off.
I still hope we don't bring in Tim Thomas in a Zach trade. Can't believe some people have forgotten what an embarrassment he was in NY. Thomas and Q could start their own all-fugazy team.
We should be patient about moving Zach for a legit big man who can run the floor.
Great move ... plus we keep Rose's expiring contract. I like Donnie's patience. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Great reporting Alan!
How do we now get rid of Q and james. we still need to clear a spot for baby ew!!!! any way at least for one night does steph play
According to http://www.theknicksblog.com/ MARBURY will be activated for tonights game only because its a NBA rule that you must dress 8 players. Which means the Clippers deal will go through today, just not sure of what players.
It looks like the Knicks are serious about improving their D and this looks to be the beginning of the Knicks finally digging out from under this huge salary cap mess. Smart move.
Great another foward to a team that has a million already. And Great another Foward who cant block shots.Awesome trade...
Rumors out there that Zach may not be going to LA but instead Dallas. Jerry Stackhouse whos deal expires after this season and another player. Getting very interesting to say the least.
WWWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!
That's right, dump this entire crappy team. Everybody get out!!!!
Thank you Mr. Walsh!!!!!!!!!!!!!
grate trade now activate marbury trade rose for bellini dump james and get ewing jr back
I guessed on this blog that the Mavs would be the probable destination for Randolph a few weeks ago. Might actually be right.
Zach for Stack rumor came from the Daily News...Mavs blog is ripping it calling Zach a troublemaker & wondering why they'd do it when Mavs have Dirk at PF.
The Knicks are activating Stephon Marbury for Friday's game against Milwaukee, according to Tommy Dee of The Knicks Blog.
Sources tell Dee that the team will activate Marbury because another trade is in the works so that the team can dress eight players, a league mandated rule.
As per realgm.com
@Old School Oakley
Zach has been playing the 5 in NY, he could play the 5 in Dallas and be an excellent compliment to Dirk.
The Dallas trade makes sense for us. Knicks get a SG to play instead of Crawford. Not sure why Dallas would do it though. A Dirk, Z-Bo frontcourt definitely wouldn't help them defensively. Even offensively it doesn't make sense, because both players get a lot of their points from jumpers. Curry would make more sense, salary wise too. Still not a great trade for Dallas.
Now will the Knicks sign McDyess?
Zach for Stack and whom? I would take Dampier. As long as we get some shotblocking and a first round pick I could care less, but we need a pick!!!
This blog sux because I can't ever post. FIX IT FIXER!
How a deal with Dallas could go down from the Knicks Blog:
NYK receives: Jerry Stackhouse, Marcus Camby
DAL receives: Zach Randolph
LAC receives: Josh Howard, Mardy Collins
Wow... I don't know about you guys, but I'd definitely prefer the return of Camby over the return of Tim Thomas. If this is the case then Walsh has to be given incredible props. This fits with the idea of being competitive now and clearing space for the future whereas sitting on the Crawford for Harrington trade creates a log jam at the forward position.
Even if the on-the-court product is mediocre at best, the off the court situation is getting insane (in a good way!)
Hey one got through... wow... D'Antoni always said that he'd play Marbury if anyone got hurt. Let's see...
Now the rumor is back to the three team scenerio............
NYK receives: Jerry Stackhouse, Marcus Camby
DAL receives: Zach Randolph
LAC receives: Josh Howard, Mardy Collins
I think I will make Donnie MAYOR for the day if he can pull this off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No way that trade happens Bobby C: (1) Doubt Dolan ever lets us trade for Camby again, (2) why in the world would Dallas trade Stackhouse and Josh Howard for a player who plays the same position as their best player, (3) Camby just got traded I don't think under NBA rules than can trade him again yet, (4) The Clippers already have Holford at SF they need inside scoring not Josh Howard, and (5) It would make more sense in that scenario for DAL to take Camby and the Clips to take Stackhouse and Howard, why even involve the Knicks?
31 posts in a little more than an hour...this has to be a record. probably would have been 50 if the sucurity system here didn't suck so much.
props to you alan.
that's 31 basketball posts... have you read the BS on berman's blog? nothing but hate.
oh yeah, and by the way, well done alan! but you really need to get this security thing fixed.
the way to fix the security is to type a different name and e-mail address, and refresh the browser so a different security code appears. type in new code. then post. usually that will work. if you are reading this post, that means this fix worked.
Knicks4Life:
Good points. The only thing is that Camby is eligible to be acquired by all teams EXCEPT Denver. So if you exclude the Dolan factor, he's in play.
PS - I came up with an interesting (HIGHLY-ABSURD-TOTALLY-HYPOTHETICAL-NEVER-GONNA-HAPPEN) way for this deal to work with the trade machine.
NY - Marcus Camby, Jerry Stackhouse, Eric Gordon
LA - Zach Randolph
Dallas - Mardy Collins
In this trade, Dallas rids themselves of the Stackhouse problem while incurring the least amount of damage possible by acquiring Collins small 2 year contract.
New York gets a shooting guard with a small contract to replace Crawford, two expiring contracts (Stackhouse and Camby) and a big to cover the middle and provide some defensive horsepower.
LA gets another big to try and pair up with Kaman.
Like I said, totally hypothetical and probably won't happen. But I expect it to enter the rumor mill as "official" in 3... 2...
You can't figure it out Alan? The Knicks just lopped another contract off the books for the Summer of 'Bron 'Bron. This isn't about winning games, improving the roster or anything tangible for the next two seasons - it's about clearing contracts.
Sure, Harrington fits - in D'Antoni's system he'll be a poor man's Matrix - but that's not really what matters here.
we need a shooting guard, what else does donnie have up his sleeves. im loving this...
Steve - there's a rumor floating around about a trade of Zach and Mardy Collins to Dallas for Terry and Stackhouse
If the Knicks trade for Camby, I'm gonna be so happy.
Trust me i'm not leaving Cleveland. I feel bad that you're all being so mislead.
@LeBron
Hey dont worry about it man, I'll be more than happy to take Bosh and Wade or Kobe and Bosh. No hard feelings.
Hey LeBron, you're going to NY whether you like it or not.
who cares if we get a decent 2 back ... this is not about this year. Donnie is a visionary!!! 2010 baby ... 2010!! And that is no longer the summer of Lebron ... it's the summer of Lebron AND Bosh ... or, how about the summer of Lebron AND Amare!!!! OH MAN OH MAN!!!
Keep doin whatcha doin Donnie .... give Walsh a shot at the economy while he's at it .... Walsh for Prez!!!! Sorry Obama
from realGM:
The Knicks are working on a separate deal from their trade with Golden State, which would send Zach Randolph to the Los Angeles Clippers, possibly for Tim Thomas and Cuttino Mobley.
It is believed that Donnie Walsh is ready to make that deal but is awaiting confirmation from the Clippers, who pursued Randolph last summer.
Hey ALAN it is gettin awfully quiet man. Give us a UPDATE man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Lebron
I'll let you take it to the whole everynight....just come to the knicks!
@Lebron
Yeah me to Lebron...........Please!
I am PRAYING Tim Thomas will not be in this deal. If he is, the Knicks need to waive him ASAP. As my friend mentioned earlier today, Thomas along with Curry are both under the "Not Too Interested In Playing Basketball" column.
Fine with Crawford leaving... He was Starks without the defense. 2010 here we come...
Breaking News: Mardy Collins is traded for the rights
to Fredrick Weis!
@ kim kardashian
learn to spell 'hole' whore !!!!
please lets get camby....by all means PLZ basketball gawds !!
no more OLAY defense at MSG!!!!!
somewhere in gotham.....
WILLIS is doing the jig!
If things fall apart in Miami, D-Wade might be out there too...
@ Patrick- Did you see that Dallas-LAC-NYK scenerio anywhere other than on theknicksblog?
I want to praise the brilliance of Walsh and Coach D for making a plan and sticking to it masterfully. What a great job of ncreasing these bad players value early and shipping them out before they go back into the tank.
Today I am proud to be a fan of the Knicks
2010 is alive
