And, for now, check out what Ho-Beck has to say about the Zach Randolph-to-Memphis rumblings.

" Despite a checkered career, Randolph has shown the ability to average 20 points and 10 rebounds per game. Walsh apparently is determined to get maximum value for him, even if it means passing up chances to dump his contract."

Now that is the first thing about Walsh I agree with!
Equal value is not Harpo & Marko, plus pay part of Zach's salary
and give up a 1rst round pick! Thank God for Medication!
An obvious upgrade going on with the Knicks Medical staff!

Its obvious that Memphis, like the rest of the NBA does not want Randolph unless they get draft picks and/or an opportunity to dump big contracts.

For all those who believe that Walsh is being smart holding on to Randolph, keep in mind that he has never contributed to a winning team; that the Blazers took nothing from the Knicks to dump him; and despite shopping the guy all Summer, Walsh has not been able to find a taker.

By keeping Randolph, the Knicks will have less time for Lee, will see Curry's game continue to degenerate.

I'd take Darko and Marko in a second for the Randolph.

His lack of passing skills, his need to score regardless of who is open, and is astounding lack of will when it comes to defense, will condemn any team he's on, to loser status.

Walsh is such a bluffer. You got to take everything he says with a grain of salt. For all we know, he may have had multiple conversations with Memphis this week that he does not want the public to know about.

Torres: I hope so.

I think it's crazy to give up a 1st rounder with Zach to get an underachiever in Darko and a contract that extends past 2010 in Marko. I like that there's buzz and count me in the camp that believes enough in the new GM and Coach to let them see what they can do with Zach et. all before the trading deadline. Some contender is going to want either Zach or Eddy and we'll get something better than getting screwed out of a 1st rounder. Now if the deal was Darko and Walker for Zach or M. Rose, Zach and a 2nd rounder for Darko and Warrick, those I'd do but keep the damn 1st rounders, we're going to need them.

I agree with everything you're saying David. But I think we could be in danger of giving up a very important asset, before we know how he plays for D'Antoni. Plus, by definition, nobody on those Portland teams at that time had "contributed on a winning team" because that team sucked as bad as these knicks do. Other than Rasheed, after the Jail Blazers were broken up, were any of those players worth a thing on another team? Just a bad team, bad drafts, bad trades, bad mismatched players, just a bad team. By the same definition, David Lee has never contributed on a winning team, Crawford, Robinson, etc... ditto. Anybody who played on the Clippers since the beginning of time is the same kind of loser. But....those organizations were unholy messes, as is ours today. Was it the player's fault always? They do bear responsibility, but when things are bad, all players look like junk.

I'll give my glass-is-half-full scenario on keeping the roster intact (cept Marbury). In D'Antoni's system, Zach and everyone else will have to pass the ball. Its just not possible to run the offense without moving the ball. The black hole Zach, cradling the ball and staring down his man, can't get on the court here. Zach is very gifted offensively and when he is forced to shoot when open and pass when defended will change his game. Personally, I think he's one of the most talented players we've had around here in a long time, and he should shoot the ball every time he is open. When that dictum is in place in a real offense, where "open" doesn't mean by your lonesome behind the 3 point line while the rest of the team stares.

Curry has to be coached. He has to be given clear instructions and he has to seize his role. He's a sensitive guy who doesn't really know how to play, so he gets lost and disgruntled when there is no structure. He doesn't know how to use his free time on the court productively. For him, constant movement, quick binary decisions - shoot or pass - will clarify the game for him. He is more athletic than almost anybody his size. When he just takes the ball, and moves, and I love the idea of him facing it up more, he is impossible to guard. D'Antoni will find a way to use Lee. Lee will find a way to get better. He is a coaches dream, D'Antoni will love him, and he will thrive. Give em a chance.

No more fire sales. Let's have another losing season as long as we rebuilding the right way. When these guys believed in each other and played hard, they could hang in this league. At the very beginning of the Zach era, Curry actually was having fun. Marbury and Zeke were the cancers, not Zach.

You go Donnie Boy!

Seriously -- this is the crux of the matter as Willis correctly pointed out yesterday. A month ago, people were pissed because we didn't just give Randolph to the Clips. Now we see a potential Memphis offer that shows just how stupid the Clips' offer was, but still isn't good enough. DW is serving notice on the league that the bargain basement is now closed.

I'm betting Randolph gets dealt in an even better scenario before the deadline. Patience young Padawans...I know we all want to see a deal that will change the Knicks dramatically, but let's not deal just to deal. Marko was a liability (albeit smaller than Z-Bo) and Crittenton isn't all that. The best piece was Darko and he was an 8th man at best.

Excuse me, i'm a knicks' fan from argentina... Can anyone explain me what a protected draft pick is?
I don“t think Zach would get better, we should take Darko and Marko, but is there any chance to do that without the 1st round pick? If there is, just kick Zach out of NY. If not, J Critt isn't worth a 1st round pick... I love his game, but he's not the pass-first pg we need to run D'antoni's offense...
Why isn't the greatest knick ever in the staff?? I've watched some videos this week, his game 7 in 1994 Conference Finals... And then remembered Curry and Jerome James... I think I'll kill myself

Freda, a protected draft pick is one where the pick can only be used if it falls below a certain draft level. It could be lottery protected, where the pick can only be used when that pick is below number 14, or it could be top three protected.
