The Sked

Checking in from vacation....schedule-day is always important enough to press pause on the sun and swimming and log in....

Here's nyknicks.com with the downloadable schedule for Internet Explorer users and those of you who have Firefox.

The Knicks will open at home for the first time since the 2003-04 season, when they host Dwyane Wade, Michael Beasley and the Miami Heat at Madison Square Garden on Wed., Oct. 28.

Four of the first six games are at home (Miami, Milwaukee, LB's Charlotte Bobcats and Utah) before the usual early-season trip to San Antonio and then a stop in Memphis. Nov. 18 marks the first meeting with the champion Celtics in Boston and LeBron's first game at the Garden this season is Nov. 25.

Mike D'Antoni's return to Phoenix comes Dec. 15, when the Knicks play the Suns and then follow with a back-to-back against the Lakers in LA the following night.

The Knicks will be home for the holidays as usual, but set off for a four-game jaunt from Jan. 6-12 that takes them from Oklahoma City to Dallas to Houston and then New Orleans.

The schedule is quite kind to the Knicks (and the sports writers) as far as travel goes. That is the longest constant road trip. The Knicks are "away" for five straight games in both December (9-16) and March (8-15), but both trips involve games against the Nets, which means at least two nights in the home bed. I'll take it.

The annual MLK day game is Jan. 19 versus Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls. TNT is showing s triple-header that day but opted not to show the Knicks-Bulls game, which tips at 1 p.m.. Instead you'll see Pistons-Grizzlies (5:30 p.m.), Suns-Celtics (8 p.m.) and Cavaliers-Lakers (10:30 p.m.).

In fact, after being embarrassed by the Celtics on their lone TNT appearance last season, the Knicks will not appear on TNT this season. D'Antoni's Suns? They'll be on 10 times, which ties with the Lakers and Cavs for the most.

All-Star weekend is Feb. 14-15 in Phoenix, Ariz. Will the Knicks finally have some representation in the big game? Or will Wilson Chandler and/or Danilo Gallianri at least be on hand for the Rookie Challenge? Would be nice for D'Antoni to return as an all-star coach for the Eastern Conference team, but, well . . .

On that note I'll offer this: the regular season ends April 16 against the Nets at MSG.

Pete,

you are wasting ur breath. Peaceman (must be an ironic nickname like calling a fat guy Tiny) is good for at least one racist diatribe a month. This is why he filates Thomas and hates Donnie.

Its not that we have a glut of SF's on the squad Peace, its because he's not white. Thats why they shipped him out. Nevermind that 13 out of the remaining 15 are black. That doesn't support his point so of course he left that out.

Sometimes he makes great points but most of the time he just finds a cut and paste to attempt to support his tired arguments.
This time was dumber than most.

So 7.4 points and 5.3 rebounds in college makes you a superstar ? Peace is still sippin' IT Kool Aid and must really think we gave up the next Rodman. hahahahahahahaha.

The NIT MVP hasn't produced a player of HOF calibur since 1985 ! Thanks for pointing that out.

Can we move on?....I think anybody who's been here long enough knows Alan is not racist...its ridiculous, can we talk about the Knicks now?

NYC2Infinity

Never said Alan was Racist. Actually just noted that certain phrases are charged with racially tinged stereotype. I wouldn't go that far. I suspect like everyone here, and on every blog of course, we all say things we might have been better of thinking twice about.

Mak

No beef with you either. Peaceman is brethern at the other blogs I hit and he will come out with hyperbole at times. Just check out the fanatics, we discussed the Balkman comments by Hahn, and the vast majority of us didn't come to the conclusion Hahn is racist. Alghough the consensus their is that Hahn, and really all of us miss a step at times.

Peace to you bloggers on Fixers Isle.

Pete

I'll have to digest your comments but I'll certainly get back to you. Lets see if we can quash some misunderstandings, if indeed I have read your post a cetain way.

Knicks will start 0-7 and have their first win at Memphis and end up with 28-30 wins overall.

peace is the low IQ around here

losing season means a lottery pick.

That aint so bad.

Just hope this time around the brain trust lets the kids play, and pulls a short leash with tempermental and undermotivated vets.

We keep junking players before theyv'e ripened. While I won't say all those players will be all stars or even starters many could be useful contributors.

Do it right this time I have the patience.

Oh and all 2010 says to me is that the fandom has a 2 year window of patience on talent level improvement. And of course its better that we nab that talent at high prices from away than showing the resolve to develop them here. Well that was the past trend

Time to break with a terrible tradition.

@orange and blue

oh okay...its all good
it just sounded
like peace was being a little hyper sensitive

i have been in barber shops and heard people
saying balkman was not the brightest knick
and these are black people saying this

trust me if i thought
alan was being racially insensitive
i would not be posting here

the first thought i had when they hired
d'antoni was ...
"balkman and D.Lee are in trouble"..LOL

1 down...1 to go...LOL

Gentlemen, I suggest that those of you who have a god, begin to pray in earnest. I have found the only unambiguously good news of many years for knicks fans:

http://www.nypost.com/seven/08062008/business/cablevisions_rainbow_rerun_123263.htm

From the article:

"Cablevision is likely to begin issuing a regular quarterly dividend and has directed its board to once again explore a potential spin-off or sale of either its Rainbow Media or Madison Square Garden units to unlock shareholder value."

Rumor or not, the idea that Dolan could finally get out of our business by selling MSG, is something to be fervently wished for. Speak to the Maker of your choice and please have that diety make it so!

@ Orange and Blue - that's fair enough. I'll get into it with other posters sometimes, but it's never personal, and I'd never advocate censoring someone (legit trolls excepted). I wouldn't visit a blog that did.

In the end we all want the same thing - a great Knicks team.

Here here Pete.

Agreed we all bleed them Knicks Colors and want to see them shine!

NYC2infinity

That's some funny shyt.

I was a Balkman fan, I'll still root for the kid when he's not playing the Knicks. I still think many pups on the Knicks get lost in the shuffle only to develop later on a team that doesn't suscribe to the NY minute theory.

I also sometimes wonder would Starks, Mason have emerged had they gotten on the Knicks ship as pups?

Understand what I'm saying?

I like Balkman too. It seems that in the past contract size had more to do with p.t. then anything else. Let's hope that D'Ant rewards effort and development. Young guys almost always struggle, but the good ones get better. Even LeBron improved his numbers considerably after his rookie year, and he was impressive from the start.

O & B - Starks is a great example - he was out of the league or a while before he was given a chance. Mase too - wasn't he stuck in Europe for a while? Why dump a player before you know what they are?

I have a feeling that if Balkman finds the right niche that deal could come back to haunt the Knicks down the road.

@orange and blue

yeah...you are right.
Isiah did an awful job developing our young guys
D.Lee was self motivated
Balkman was not

i read in the PHX papers that
D'antoni's assistants are great at developing players
so that should help our youngs guys
esp Gallo and Lil Nate

maybe Lee will get a jump shot...LOL

Pete & NYC2 Infinity

Yup, I guesse that's why it's important to give the new coach a long leash. I've got the patience at this juncture. Walsh's moves have been tepid and not all neccesarily popular but I will also play wait and see, and if and his moves surprise. Hey better for the Knicks.

Read ya Latez!

Hey guys, I'm new to this blog, I didn't know it existed until a couple of weeks ago, but I'm glad I found it. It's nice to have some useful information in the off season, hard to find too.

Anyway, I'm thinking about getting season tickets this year, I've gotten a "mini" plan in the past because 41 games (44 if you include preseason) is just too much. I'm looking for 1 or 2 guys to actually split the package with though. It would be 2 seats (may be able to do 3 seats if it's split three ways) in the cheat seats ($25 each, there still have some available in the section closest to half court). I figured this would be a good place to throw this out there as I don't have many other forums to ask people who would be interested in this desolate time for the knicks. If anyone is interested please post here, then I'll give my email out. Let's go Knicks!

i would like to get the tickets if is possible I am hige fan of NY
KNICKs so keep in touch post me Nick

@willis.

I'm off to temple immediately to pray for divine intervention from the pope.

@nick

I'm not sure how we can do this discretely over the internet...
do you have AIM? If you're still interested, give me a time sometime next week to be on AIM and we can talk about the tickets. Post back and let me know if Monday @ 8pm sounds good. My screen name is "whaazzzaaa". Hope to hear from you.

If anyone else is interested in splitting season tickets please post here!
