Brandon Jennings or Ricky Rubio?

Team USA made the entire team from Spain look bad, so you can't judge off that game, but from what I've read, seen and heard about 17-year-old point guard Ricky Rubio, he could be one to watch for in next year's NBA Draft. NBADraft.net compares him to, get this, Steve Nash and Walt Frazier.489882894_6230673d24.jpg

Rubio has dynamic ball-handling skills and great court vision. Right now he looks like a combination between The Karate Kid and a young Pistol Pete, but he still has some growing to do. His game, of course, fits right into what Mike D'Antoni wants in a point guard for his system (though Rubio's shot has to get a little better).

Of course the lead dog at the PG spot (and an absolutely perfect fit for the D'Antoni system) will be Brandon Jennings, who is playing in Europe this winter. All eyes will be on the crafty lefty to see how he does in the pro game overseas as opposed to tearing up the NCAA like his 2009 draft classmates will.

Yo, bloghost, why are you talking lottery picks in August? You implying that the Knicks will be in the lottery again?

Just planning ahead, Fixers.

Good post Alan,
Planning ahead is a good thing this year! The Knicks can't break our hearts this year! BTW..it seems the Rubio's jump shot is worse than Balkman's, but then again Dean "the Dream" never had a jumper either.

It would actually be another step in the rebuilding process if the Knicks could end up with a poor record, and the first pick in the 2009 draft. If between now and the draft, they dispose of Zach and Marbury, are under the cap, Gallinari progresses, and they end up picking Ricky Rubio, this team will be a team on the rise.

If instead, they win 35 games and end up just out of the playoffs, with the 15th draft pick, it will be a long road home.

Boston Globe is reporting that Marbury will be gone before the season starts . . .

And a Cleveland paper is reporting that the Cavs could b talking to the Knicks about "a big man."

Cavs in the Market for a Big Man?

The rumor mill has been churning after the Williams deal. The Cavs could be talking to the Knicks about a big man.

This will be an exciting season in New york Home Cheese.

My wife is waiting to see us run with these athletes we have instead of what she calls stand around bored while Nate or Jamal play one on one. Hiyaaa!

Rubio.

Jennings is a punk. Another Marbury-like loser.

I agree with David about the rebuilding and would add - "with no draft pick coming up in 2010", to that.

rubio is only 17, so the NBA will have to wait two more years for him.

Neither, I'll take Ricky from Menudo. The Knicks will only hope to be competitive in 08-09. We will be better than 23 Wins. But, how much more can you get worse?

BJ easily !! after a yr overseas he will be well seasoned for league play. name one european PG that is all star worthy. all these cats sergio rodriguez and calderon are just names full of hype. look at how for YEARS the argentine pg pepe sanchez couldn't do jack sh*t in the nba. ( i know he aint a euro but u catch my drift) ..when you go european it's best to go big. tha guards are all overhyped. they're good solid players but don't dare pass up a matured brandon jennings. beno udrich anyone??

how is calderon just hype?

@ Anonymous, Yo man your comments are almost as funny as you are in a pathetic kind of way. Get a name already ! BJ is CP3 with more speed. N.O. to Rubio ! If BJ is #1, then BJ Mullens is #1A, and Demar Derozan is #1B, and my guy Stephen Curry is #1C !

Keep an eye on J'rue Holiday, UCLA; no matador D, and he has confidence on his way to the hoop. Thanks to Clyde for the verbiage.

With Rubio on the right team, he will do great things. He is so cool headed for his young age, does not try hard and makes things look easy. He may still grow and inch or two. He can dunk. He can shoot, but was probably not used to the heavy defense USA is turning up.

Jennings and Rubio is probably the next generation. Two different styles at their best.
