Don't lie. The second-rate hockey writer had a prior commitment at Home Depot. As a result, his dissed his brothers in the Fixer 'hood.
Out.
What time was the Knicks's press conference today? Will it be re-aired on MSG?
I'm not an Alan lover or defender just a blogger. but what's up with the anonymous troll.
Also seems like alot of the Eastern Conference is laughing off 2010 and are in it to win it now 2008 for the Sixers, Raptors, and 2007 for the Celtics.
Is 2010 a rosey colored sell job? Or is it the actual situation the Knicks are faced with after years of terrible organizational decisions, and an albatross situation with their salary cap?
Chime in bloggers.
Is this the first time in the history of the NBA that a formal press conference was held to introduce a backup?
O&B - there's no way that the knicks would be able to make moves like the other teams in the atlantic because of their cap situation.
be glad that theres administration in place that is committed to the long term, and isn't looking for any quick fixes for this season.
just look what that led to last year - zach randolph, a 20/10 guy heralded as a potential all star, who killed any semblance of chemistry that existed, hurt the play and improvement of curry, who wasn't the best locker room guy, and who really hurt their chances of getting under the cap.
this is going to take time. as much as it sucks, we're going to have to be patient.
but hey, ill be happy with a young, energetic team thats like last year's sixers. then if we could be in a position to make big moves in a year or two to start really contending, we're set.
Matt B
Right! I placed that question as on open ended one. I do agree with you that mismanagement in the prior regimes resulted in an organization with no flexibility to make major moves at this time w/o freeing the organization up in the long term to field a championship calibur team in the long haul.
Aside from the questionable signings, and trades that have hamstrung the Knicks organization, the teams younger players were also terribly managed and underdeveloped.
Kids who hustle, and play as if they care, such as Balkman, Lee, Chandler were made to sit in wait while pouty, incapable, out of shape, and headcase type players suited up in Thomas's last ditch to save his legacy.
This team is starting from scratch. The kids should have played last year. They should certainly see alot of time this year. I don't care if Q can shoot, if he is still in bad shape he should sit. Same goes for Curry, and Turdburry. Play thos who give a damn about the team.
Make Lee and Chandler along with Crawford the team captains!
@ O&B - wouldn't it be great if more pro sports teams took that approach? It would make for a lot less overpaid crybabies!
Agree w/ both and would add that waiting it out is all we can do, when the Knicks are under the cap and can openly shop for FAs...it will be our "Xmas morning".
Unfortunately, that comes with A LOT of waiting and anticipation to get there.
Summer League next week, we get to the The Rooster in action. Then, we can make an informed decision...on that move.
Keepin' it Old School...
"zach randolph, a 20/10 guy heralded as a potential all star, who killed any semblance of chemistry that existed, hurt the play and improvement of curry, who wasn't the best locker room guy, and who really hurt their chances of getting under the cap."
Can't blame Curry's lack of development on anyone but Curry and IT. IT didn't have a plan to utilize both of them and gave Curry inconsistent playing time. Also, Curry came in out of shape and not focused on b-ball. He also did nothing in the off-season to improve his horrendous defense or conditioning. Remember when other Knicks were working on their game over the summer and showing up to voluntary workouts Curry was taking family vacations (which he is enttiled to but would Jordon or Ewing have done that). To me Curry had a good 1/2 or 3/4 season two years ago but even then his game really had not improved much from his Chicago days. He was not rebounding, blocking shots, paying D, or getting others involved. We just featured him more.
I actually think Zach is a hard worker who, in the right situation could be uselful. The zoo that is the NY Knicks and his salary just don't make him a good fit for this team. Remember its not like this was a good team pre-Zach with our 23, 32, 23 and 35(?) record the past four years.
@ Old School, I don't think seeing Danillo play in the summer league will end the Danillo vs. Bayless or Augustine debate. We probably have to wait until mid-season when they are both getting consistent playing time against real NBA competition and Bayless or Augustine, as PGs, have had a chance to figure out their teams offensive sets.
I'd take it a step further and say that you really can't make a determination on the success of the Danillo pick till a few years down the line.
Players mature and progress differently than each other. Especially when you're talking about a 19 year old.
I am excited though to get a glimpse of him going head to head with the other rookies.
@ K4L - Sadly, my friend who called Zbo's body "like a 13 yr old girl" is dead on. Maybe, if they served alcohol or played loud techno music, he might know what the inside of gym looked like!
@ K4L & Matt B - Also, I may have not written what I was thinking...I meant seeing him vs. young NBA competiton esp. 2nd or 3rd year players will help us see if he's the real deal & make some sense of using #6 on him.
I know I heard it before, but it this the 2nd coming or Marje Lampe? Remember him? ...Exactly!
Now that the Clippers lost Brand, do you think they'd be interested in Zach? I'm pretty sure Baron Davis is man enough to play with him, as appose to our cry baby Knicks (He's hogging the Ball). I'd take Tim Thomas back and Mobly and beg for a future draft pick. Both their contract end in 2010 and could help with the great get Lebron James idea.
This is probably the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. Lebron going to leave his home town to play for the Knicks which will have no complementary players for him to win with. Just because it’s New York. Because it’s New York players don’t want to play here. We wait for them to fall off the pedestal then we jump on them. We kill Ewing when he was here, we killed Phil Simms for years, we were getting on E Manning and now we’re killing A Rod. Why would Lebron want to go through that? If he doesn’t win a championship (with no body mind you) we’re going to kill him.
If gallinari shoots the lights out on the wings this monday it will be a sign that the knicks made the right choice. that's why we got him, to be a big man who lights it up on the perimeter in d'antoni's system.
mike d'antoni's system made quentin richardson score the most three point shots in the league that one year he was in phoenix. then he came to new york and did jack schitt due to back problems.
if gallinari does nothing more than camp out and hit open j's in his first year, it will be worth it in my eyes.
but, gallinari puts the ball on the floor, attacks the rim, can pass out of a double-team and has a competitive nature about him that is lacking from some of our "home grown" knicks. i don't have to name names, but the contracts associated with these non-competitive knicks are basically deadweight because they're overpaid and underperform on a regular basis.
i'm down with gallinari, mike d and walsh for the time being, until there is proof otherwise. i am going into the season thinking it was a good choice.
i can not relate at all to the people who have come to conclusions based on country of origin, ethnicity, or any other prejudice BS that prevents you from seeing what is really out there on the basketball court.
if you can play, doesn't matter if your from Italy or Mars. Since you haven't seen the kid play, you can't tell me one way or anther how he's going to look based on somebody else's performance after migrating to this league.
you say the next Lampe, I say the next Turkoglu.
Nobody is right or wrong till the ball goes up in November.
Loki - It's not just about the chance to get LeBron. It's about getting under the cap, to be a healthier team financially, that has a chance to make smart moves and runs at superstar players.
That's the most important thing. And it's not going to happen anytime soon with Zach's fat contract still weighing them down.
Guys I would love for Von Wafer to find his Nitch here in NY!
I can believe he's in our Summer camp! Not to Dross this Blog, but D'Antoni will make a Star out of this Kid!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWscOTWXlDM&feature=related
Von Wafer is nice.
I watched the draft the year he came out, and the commentators said he made a mistake declaring early, which I agreed. if this ked stays in school another year, he's a lottery pick!
He's a John Starks type. Would he thrive in D'Antoni's system? You bet he would.
Don't know much about Van Waffer
but
I do know that if we don't get rid of the dead weight, lost souls, mist cast players on the Knicks the team will likely have to cut Waffer like they did to Nichols.
Oh well!
All,
I this blog puts others to shame, which is why I almost never read them. But, here's a recent article from Berman:
And in a dig at Marbury's shortcomings, Walsh said, "We thought we needed somebody that was a true PG that could facilitate, somebody that was defensive-oriented. And he was the best name out there. We're filling in some of the blanks that we had."
Way to read into it Berman...this guy is ridiculous! Donnie couldn't mean every Knick guard last year including Matador Marbury, Craw-Force, TweaQ'd & even Nate when he was being lazy.
