Walsh: 'No Deals Right Now'
Donnie's not showing his cards, Fixers.
“We have no deals right now. You know, there’s so many discussions. I’m not going to confirm or deny specific ones, because then I’d be talking about ten different discussions that took place today that somehow get out and people talk about. That’s the fun of the draft and I understand that.”
No one would expect he would come out and say, "Yeah, that Memphis rumor is true!" so it's not surprising he played it coy. But he did try to suggest that there are numerous scenarios brought up throughout draft week and most of them never come to fruition. He also said that some things that could be there for the Knicks depend on how things go with the draft.
So the Memphis thing: the Grizzlies seem to be locked on Kevin Love at No. 5. But if Minnesota winds up taking him at No. 3, the Griz would then be interested in taking Lee from the Knicks for the fifth pick. Now, if Love goes three and the Knicks get the five, it leaves Seattle to take either OJ Mayo or Jerryd Bayless and word is they are high on the latter. So that leaves the potential for Mayo to be available for the Knicks at No. 5 and they can then grab another player -- perhaps a project or perhaps another fine young guard such as Russell Westbrook -- at No. 6.
Of course Minnesota might not take Love and instead go for Mayo or trade the pick. Walsh has checked out this scenario, too.
He was asked if there were any irons in the fire and Walsh deadpanned, "It takes two to tango."
Said Danilo Gallinari shot the ball real well at his workout here and he was impressed with how the kid, at 19, looked on film.
Regarding Russell Westbrook, Walsh acknowledged that the kid helped himself with an impressive showing in his workouts.
"I think we saw he was a good athlete, but when you see it up close, it was impressive," he said. "And so was some others.”
Stay tuned . . .

I thought the reported/rumored Memphis deal also involved taking on Brian Cardinal's contract (2 years, 13 mil?) and dishing Malik Rose and his expiring. No? I understand most of this is heresay, but still.
i like where your head's at donnie!
Go get em Donnie- starting to think there really is a plan - competative 1st and then GOLD
I love David Lee!!! But for a #5 pick, no brainer. Also, try to work on that #3 with Minnesota with Nate Robinson and Wilson Chandler!!! With the three picks, you'd get Mayo, Bayless or Westbrook to be the engine and also Danillo!!!
Why would Minnesota want Robinson and Chandler at all, forget for the third pick?
I heard of OJ Mayo when the kid was 11 in SLAM magazine. Funny how all these years later, the Knicks could get him. I really think he's a great fit in the system and a star in the making.
And if you bring in the "King" in 2010, good backcourt mate of two guys that can handle the ball.
For the first time in years, I'm excited for the draft!
Lets get this poppin.
i don't care how they do it just get something going.
we need to change the culture here.
smart heady GMing is what we have been lacking.
i hope this happens!
This stinks. After months of following every mock draft and every bizarre trade scenario . . . I’m gonna miss the whole thing. An hour before the draft starts . . . I get on an 18-hour flight. I’ll miss the whole night. This really stinks. By the time I’ll get to a hotel on the other end, so I can fire up my computer . . . it will be noon on Friday.
I will definitely check this site first to get a fix on all the news, trades, picks, etc.
This could get good, guys. I think Walsh is smart enough to know that Knicks fans have had garbage for so long, he really has to give us something to get excited about this year. Good for him. My biggest fear - after all the rumors - is that nothing happens. (Isn’t that usually the case?) And we only come away with a 5'10" PG. No matter how good he may be . . . we need more than that. We need to start building a team. And I'm not sure you can do that on shoulders only 5' 10" off the ground. I love the sound of multiple first-round picks.
18 hr flight ?? geez where tha hell r u goin' trane?? australia, to scout tha next andrew bogut...
btw i spoke to eric gordon today and told him i wouldn't mind him on our squad...after we get our big man 1st of course. that kid's got a solid nba body already...also a legit 6-2.
The way I see it we can get one of these guys picking 6th Gordon, Bayless, Westbrook, Mayo Rose or Beasley. Its not bad either way especially if we can get Mayo.
For once I agree with the Daily News.....whichs means
this is not likely to happen:

If Love stays on the board the Grizzles will select Russell Westbrook at 5 and then trade him to the Knicks for David Lee and other compensation. The Knicks will still select at 6 and yes that's two first round lottery picks for our beloved Knicks. Now, the only logical pick then at Six is Galinari. Now, if we go this route than we need to ship out some players. Who, how - I have no clue. If Minnesota takes Love all bets are off.
*repost - got mixed up - lot's of senarios is giving me a headache
If (and thats a big if) Love gets selected by the Timerwolves the Grizzles will trade their 5th pick to the Knicks which will turn into Russell Westbrook at 5 and the Knicks will still select at 6 and yes that's two first round lottery picks for our beloved Knicks. Now, the only logical pick then at six is Galinari. Now, if we go this route than we need to ship out some players. Who, how - I have no clue. If Minnesota does not take Love all bets are off.
AR,
Why is the logical pick Gallinari? You don't think there's a chance we could JA? That would be my choice with the second selection.
In Donnie we trust. ;) Perhaps the Knicks will shop their six pick to gain a latter first round (Blazers) and more second round picks or another veteran player? Blazers and the Sonics have a multitude of picks to trade for so they can trade that six pick for another mid first and second round pick. I'm just guessing.
Man, this is makin' me dizzy!!!!
This has got to be one of the most fluid drafts in recent memory.
I'm tuned in to all the pre-draft shows, and they have one thing in common.....after the second pick, anything can happen!!
The possibilities are ENDLESS.....There's a re-newed feeling of optimism in the Gotham City. Ya gotta love it!!
Anything involving trading Zack Randolph would be a win win!!!
All that Westbrook talk is a smokescreen...Eric Gordon will be the pick for NY....The Westbrook talk is based on NY getting an additional pick in the top 10...NY has its eye on 3 main players...Mayo, Gordon & Alexander.
Gordon is the most prolific scorer in this draft. He is the one Walsh wanted all along and D'Antoni is on board with it...Its about scoring the ball and when you watch what EG did early in the season at Indiana, the boy can put the biscuit in the basket..Another thing to look out for is Zach, Nate & Marbury being moved....Zach and Nate for Marion??...I also really believe Monta Ellis will get an offer sheet from NY, Monta will accept it and force his way to NY...that is when they will move Marbury & whoever else Golden State may want!
I can dream can't I??
