PreGame: Season Opener at Cleveland

Just walking into "The Q" hurts my ears, even when it is as quiet as it was at 5 p.m., when I got to the gym. They call this place "Loudville" because they try to make the entire game ridiculously loud. Last spring I blogged about it.

As I was watching some old Knicks footage last night (as I was looking for just the right video to post in that previous blog), I couldn't help but enjoy the sounds of the Garden organist playing those unmistakable two chords that encourage the chant: "Dee-Fense!"

That's it. Just an organ and a really fired up crowd that is genuinely entertained. What a concept.

More pertinent information:

Starting lineups:
KNICKS
Marbury
Crawford
Richardson
Randolph
Curry

Inactive - Jerome James, Jared Jeffries and rookie Wilson Chandler*

CAVS
Gibson
Hughes
James
Gooden
Ilgauskas

Inactive - Eric Snow, Sasha Pavlovic and rookie Demetris Nichols

* - The clear choice for several reasons. I was figuring it might be Randolph Morris, but he has to stay in the lineup because of Jeffries' injury and that leaves the Knicks short a big player. You need him in case of foul trouble. Chandler isn't going to get much burn early on here, unless the team starts out slow and Isiah Thomas wants to give him a shot to displace a vet.

Enjoy the game. Al Trautwig, Gus Johnson and Walt Frazier on the tube and Mike Crispino and John Andariese on the horn.

LETS GO KNICKS......................IS ON.........................

If the KNICKS win all is forgiven!

knicks r looking good early

Z-Bo lookin good early on...5 rebs and 6 pts mid way through 2nd quarter...Craws jumpshot looks very pure!

Knicks don't know how to win yet. They have talent but not many winning players. Besides, as much as it pains me to say it, they probably desevere bad karma based on Isiah being an idiot and Dolan because a spoiled ass and losing the case.

This team is awful!!!

This game went down to Marbury lack of respect for the player with the hot hand. His lapse in defense gave Cleveland the game. Kudos to Isiah for sitting Marbury for N8 however it was one 3 pointer shy before he did.

The team had great stats and just needed a Balk on D to get the W this time... Also the free throws were horrible!

But team wise they were not awful...look at the game stats...the lapse in D on the 3 did them in on this game.

I told you in previous blogs that the Knicks problem is that Jamal or Q-Rich can't defend anyone who can score off the dribble. Teams will continue to exploit them. Sacramento is actively trying to trade Ron-Ron, how come I haven't heard Knicks rumors?

Ok, 81-1.

Where was Mike Breen tonight?

Steph started the game with a bone headed play, and finished it allowing three uncontested threes.

We can't live with him giving up more points than he scores. Isiah has shown that he's not gonna put up with a subpar effort from him.

We're going nowhere with Eddy. Period.

DFTT

Alan – I don’t understand. Based on your story in the paper, it sounds as though Lee was lined up against Lebron during that crucial stretch of the 4th quarter. Is that correct? It doesn’t make sense that they’d be in a zone with a sharpshooter like Gibson hitting 3s. But Lee can’t possibly be quick enough to cover LGJ, can he? What am I missing, having missed the game?

Also, is it just a coincidence – or extremely revealing – that all we heard all summer from Isiah was how much the Knicks were going to improve their perimeter defense. Then they get beat by it their first game? I know, 81 to go. But it makes you wonder how effective they were in pre-season . . .

PS - DFTT

... Zach Randolph at times looked eerily like Willis Reed, with the polished left-handed dexterity, and nimble footwork ... i had no idea he was that light on his feet ... bottom line, if the Knicks make layups and free-throws in the second and third quarters, this could have been a nice road win ... nonetheless, there is much reason for optimism ... they went on the road to the Conference champs gym, and outplayed them for most of the night ... the Knicks will crush clueless Minnesota on Sunday ...

The Knicks need to start all over, from ownership on down.
