Today might be the biggest day in Las Vegas history. 07/07/07. The airport yesterday was loaded with potential millionaires all hoping to strike it rich on the so-called luckiest day in history. There were also a host of couples looking to tie the knot in Sin City.
The only thing I could think of as I strolled through a few casinos last night was there will be a lot more losers than winners. Always are. That's how it works.
Getting to the Knicks news - I love when a publications starts throwing David Lee's name into the mix in a proposed trade and then comes back the next day and shoots down it's own suggestion. ESPN does it all the time. It's what we call in the business "covering all bases."
It's like a weatherman saying it'll be sunny with a chance of showers. You can never say he was 100 percent wrong.
I didn't think it was necessary to write a story in our paper that said David Lee wasn't going to be included in any Ron Artest scenario. My judgment was that we never had concrete proof that Lee was ever in any trade discussions, so why did we need confirmation that he wasn't going to be traded?
You all have to know the Artest thing is something we all wrote as we followed the Zach Randolph trade, but that doesn't mean it's imminent. The idea that Knick prospects are being "showcased" here at the Las Vegas summer league is a bit of a stretch, too.
Lee is here on his own doing to be part of the minicamp that began Friday night and runs to Sunday before the Knicks open their summer league schedule on Monday night against Seattle. Lee is not playing in the games, but he's working out with the team. Says a lot. It will be good to see how far he's progressed with his leg injury.
Also, when it comes to published reports, be wary of where you get your information. I say this only because one report claims that Artest is overseas, when in fact, he's still in the States. He doesn't leave for Kenya, where he'll go on a NBA players association mission with several other players, including Derek Fisher, until later this week. In fact, a little birdie told me he might be here in Vegas this weekend.
Imagine that.

Right on Alan. Berman of the Post made up the Lee-to-the-Kings rumor, them shot it down. The Knicks were never going to trade Lee for Artest, and any thinking person knew that. And Isola loves to print stuff that makes the Knicks look dumb, even ifs totally false. The problem with so much Knicks reporting (and you are the exception) is that too many "reporters' have either an agenda or they simply hate Isiah. And Knick fans have grown very tired of this biased, nonsensical reporting.
Hey Alan, you're quickly becoming a fav. Now all I need is some Las Vegas news!!! Keep doing your thing.
BTW, if Lee and Artest swap spots, it wont be for 2 months so I think its just a case where folks jumped the gun...now we all have 2 months to wait to see if there's a deal going to be made.
Unless of course Sac wants our dynamic duo of JJames and JJeffries. It would hurt to see them both go but for Artest...I'll SACrifice. lol Good Weekend
I'm with BARF, this is the best of the 4 Knick blogs for entries by the beat writer.
Alan:
Have you heard any rumors about us acquiring a defensive-minded forward like James Posey or Desmond Mason? Artest seems like a longshot if Zeke won't part with Lee, which he should if that's what it takes.
Very interesting. A real reporter in New York (in Vegas actually) and reporting on the Knicks. Even more interesting, a blog without commercials flashing in the margins. You need a bigger audience. You should have a bigger audience especially since you have more to say than "The Incompetents" on the beat.
BARF, maybe this should be the place to be(post) during this Championship run instead of giving free content to the Post and News.
Hmmmmmmmmmm.
All that and then some, but what now if we don't get Artest the world will end. Come on man if Sacaremento doesn't want either:
A. Nate with either JJ or GJ
B. Q Rich straight up
C. Rose straight up
D. Nate, and the 2 expireing contracts (after 60 days are up)
Let them keep him, because to be honest with you I'd like to see the two new kids battle it out for that spot anyway. And I also like everyone else on this team.
With Ron we may be taking on a whole new head ache that I'm not sure James Dolan is ready for. If Marburry can act like an idiot in an interviews can you image Artest's interview.
