Gerrit Cole, we hardly knew ya

You all know the Yankees didn't sign their first-round pick and you probably know why. Here's the story from the other side -- the UCLA side.

I'll never argue with a kid wanting to go to college. It's a great experience and can be a lot of fun. I just hope, for his sake, that he doesn't hurt his elbow or shoulder in the next 3 years before he can reap the benefits afforded to a person with his skill set.

Funny way to send him off to school, Chip, reminding him what 'could" happen to him by not signing with us. You are beneath pondscum. No wonder most of the country hates us.

Needless to say, the fellow at 11:13 AM was not me

here's what will be cool...

If fake Chip and fake Sully get into huge arguments on the board.
It would be a true out of body experience... kind of like Being John Malkovich

I guess this is what a meaningless September will do to the Yankee board

Someone explain to me why risking bringing Joba back is smart

You really should know the 'real" Chip from the imposter, Sully. This one spells and punctuates correctly, unlike you.

I don't believe that the Yankees are taking a risk with Joba. He has been examined by two different doctors who have concurred on the diagnosis. He has received therapy and rest.

He needs to learn how to pitch. Such as, use all your pitches and not to overthrow, throwing 95 on the corners to get a batter out instead of 98+ down the middle ( Farnsworth) and get hit.

I believe the Yankees are done for the season but mathematically are still breathing. There are enough games remaining and anything can happen. Joba may be a help if the Yankees back door into the playoffs. Boston is 5.5 ahead but their as shaky as the Yankees.

There is a time and place to chase a dream but when chasing this dream its better to have a backup plan with a college degree in your back pocket. I praise his parents for their assistance and looking at the big picture. Hopefully, his college coach will develope and protect him which will be a way of showing appreciation for honoring his letter of intent to UCLA.

The opportunity should be there in 4 years. Can't run scarred worrying about injury/ 4 years at UCLA is worth some bucks and 4 years of college experience as an athlete is worth the memories.

Nice to see Boras getting sand thrown in his face.

Larry I admire your "never say die attitude" but the Red Sox are up 7 games in the loss collumn with 25 to play

That's a whole week headstart with less than 4 weeks to play.
Despite the Red Sox problems (and believe me... I know we've got them) do you really think that the Yankees can make up a week of games with only 3 head to head games remaining?

I mean your resolve is great and I know the Rockies did it last year...

But exactly what pressure did the Rockies have?
Not only did nobody expect them to do anything, nobody in Denver was paying attention.

The expectation for the Rockies in 2007 was "maybe flirt with .500."

The fan expectation for the Rockies was "this will give us something to do before the Broncos season starts."

I have many cousins in Colorado and they all became big Rockies fans around Sept. 25.

Plus they were young and hungry and the only money they had was the house money they were playing with.

Big difference

Why do these morons keep posting here under different people's names?

Hey fake Larry...
Today the team with the highest payroll in baseball will play the team with the lowest payroll in the American League

One is running away with the division and is the best team in baseball

The other is playing out the string

Guess which one is which?

Hey fake Larry

In the winter, the Marlins unloaded some of their star players to the Tigers for youth... the Tigers payroll soared above $100 million while the Marlins are the worst paid team in baseball

One team has a winning record... the other got off to the worst start in baseball and is a sub .500 noncontender.

Guess which one is which?

Teams with lousy stadiums, bad TV deals, a propensity of selling off star players and having low payrolls have had winning records left and right.

The A's and Twins have been regular participants in the playoffs.
The Marlins won a World Series more recently than the Yankees
The Rays are on their way to home field advantage in the playoffs.

Even the 2002 and 2003 Expos had records above .500 despite having no fan base and no OWNER!

So your argument for "spending limits" don't make sense.
It is "good management" vs "bad management."

The Pirates, Reds, Nationals and Royals have made bad management decisions. Poor draft picks, lousy trades and opened up their wallets for the wrong people.

All I ask is when you steal someone's name and make an argument, try to do 10 seconds of homework.

Thanks a bunch

Sully: I have made the big time as I too have a fake trying to be me. What an honor but like all fakes, he has made a fatal flaw which will be evident everytime he tries to be the real Larry.

Now, Sully, my reslove is based on math, simply put. But the problems that the Red Sox's exhibit are being covered by a nice bunch of players who go out their and catch the ball, run well for the most part and make contact in addition to situational hitting. The problems that I see are the guys throwing the rock. As I have said before Theo and Company has done a nice job developing this 40 man roster.

Agreed...
I always shook my head when I heard the Hank refrain of "We had injuries" as the excuse for 2008

Yeah, thank God my Red Sox avoided them this year
The only players who missed any time this year were Josh Beckett, Daisuke Matsusaka, Tim Wakefield, Curt Schilling, Clay Buccholz, Manny Ramirez (his fake knee injury), JD Drew, Kevin Youkiliis, Julio Lugo, Mike Lowell and David Ortiz.

Nobody big.

For $200 million, you should have a decent bench

Sully,
Do not even engage with the fake guy.
It's non-stop and will never stop.
He does it here, on the Islander blog, the Ranger blog, and the live Yankee chat blog. (YOU Sully, were "chatting" with us during a coupla games this weekend....but the regulars know better than to engage).
Regulars know whats fake and whats real.
Besides, your real name here links to your website.
When he clones your handle, it does not.

IGNORE him, or simply post a comment "comment at 11:13 was not me".
And rest assured Sully, the moron will ape me very shortly now, either here or on the Islander blog.

We do it consists of foam padding over an unknown hardwood planking. Just a little Yankee humor from a longtime fan who understands that the organization has little to offer with September callups and the near future. Sad is the word. Kennedy and Hughes nowhere in sight of the Bronx. They fell into the black hole called rushed to the bigs, now rehabilitate and hope.

Sully: forgot to indicate the message was directed to your comment about the Yankee bench for $200 million.

Sully - they're using Joba because they have to get him his innings.

Right now he's at 89 IP, the rule that the Yankees are going under is that you can only throw 50 more innings in the season than you threw last season. So if they shut him down now, next season he won't be able to start all year. If they get him up to around 115 they'll have a little more flexibility.

That's their plan anyway - personally I would shut him down and let him build innings in Arizona like they're doing with Hughes.

I agree Chip
It's like the Red Sox shutting down Papelbon in 2006
Why risk it?
