On the Yankees beat

Hey Yankees fans! Late one tonight, so bless all of you night owls out there that are gonna keep me company. Andy Pettitte (13-11, 4.52) on the mound tonight for the Yankees. He'll take on Mariners' righty Brandon Morrow (1-2, 1.47), who's making his first start since making the transition from reliever to starter.

After giving up a one-out walk to Lopez and a single to Balantien to put two men on, Pettitte holds the Mariners scoreless.

Morrow's making the most of his starting debut...that's his 9th consecutive batter retired and his fastball's looking good.

Pettitte gives up back-to-back hits to put runners at the corners. Betancourt's sac fly scores Cairo. No huge surprise there with Damon responsible for throwing home. Andy picks up two K's to get outta the inning.

Bad inning for Pettitte as he gives up three straight hits to lead off the inning. Two runs scored, Balantien and Tuiasosopo, to give the Mariners a three-run lead.

Morrow continues to impress, still no hits through five innings...only two walks.

Morrow K's two more as he retires the Yankees in order.

Pettitte bounces back a bit as he comes up with his second straight 1-2-3 inning.

Three up, three down for the Mariners as Pettitte strikes out Ibanez for the third time tonight.

Top 8th
Morrow K's one, walks next. Cano steps up and smashes one, but Balantien makes a nice basket catch to save the no-hitter. Four outs away. Betemit, in to pinch hit, sails one over Ichiro's head to kill it for Morrow and put the Yankees on the board.

Veras in to replace Pettitte and he starts by giving up a base hit to Beltre. Veras recovers to retire the next three.
