A-Rod scratched with stiff neck

The Yankees just announced that Alex Rodriguez was scratched from today's first game with a stiff neck. That could hurt their playoff chances.

In other news: Fresh off his five-inning, 12-strikeout performance in Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's International League championship winning game, Phil Hughes is on his way to New York to rejoin the Yankees.

With the Yankees playing a day/nighter today, they need a starter for Wednesday. Hughes' day to pitch is Wednesday.

Ian Kennedy is still in the mix for a callup, Joe Girardi says, although Scranton has one more game left and Kennedy could pitch that. Scranton will play the PCL champ on Tuesday in a one-game Triple-A championship in Oklahoma City.

David Robertson is also on his way here.

Pudge Rodriguez's suspension ends after Game 1, so he will catch in Game 2.

That's it. Enjoy the games. Or better yet -- go out and do something fun.

Yeah, that's just like A-Rod to bow out of a game with our precarious playoff hopes on the line. For $27 mil per, he can't find a decent chiropractor? Sheesh!

I really didnt appreciate being called a "brown nose' by you Mike.

I can't wait for next year (I have CC and Sheets thoughts in my future!)...But in all seriousness my wife and I are going next Sunday and sadly its likely the last game ever at Yankee Stadium. Kinda funny how this year has gone and if things end the way they appear we may finish 4th! Yuck! It will be great though to kick the snot out of Baltimore for the final game! We got tickets in the upper tier for less than $200 which wasnt too bad (if anyone else is interested?) http://www.esellout.com/ResultsGeneralAtVenue.aspx?kwds=New+York+Yankees&venid=68
At least Hughes got the call up after the AAA playoffs, it would be a nice way to salvage his season with a couple good appearances heading into the offseason either as a part of Yankees future lure OR in a potential trade! LET'S GO YANKEES!
