*Hideki Matsui is gradually incrasing his workload. He is becoming slightly more optimistic about his chances of returning to action this season, but we'll see.
*Jorge Posada's surgery is scheduled for this afternoon.
*A couple pitching notes -- Edwar Ramirez has retired 38 of the last 43 batters he has faced. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the 35 consecutive hitless is the longest hitless stretch by a Yankees pitcher since 2005. Mariano Rivera reached the 1,000-inning mark for his career. Also according to Elias, his 2.30 career ERA is the fourth-lowest all-time among pitchers with at least 1,000-innings pitched. The three lower all lived a long time ago: Eddie Cicotte (2.20), Jim Scott (2.26) and Babe Ruth himself (2.28).
