Matsui, Damon updates; All-Star stuff
Bad news out of Tampa. Things didn't go well today for Hideki Matsui and Johnny Damon.
The AP story says: "Injured Yankees outfielders Hideki matsui and Johnny Damon could be sidelined longer than first expected."
Matsui didn't hit today after having additional discomfort in his left knee. He told the AP he plans to hit tomorrow.
Damon still has soreness in his left shoulder. He had treatment today and won't start hitting off a tee until late this week or even after that.
Damon told the AP: "It feels a little better today. It still feels horrible waking up. I'm still kind of down because I know (Joe) Girardi wants to put me in the lineup on Sunday and I'm not sure we can do that."

Well that's not good.
I said it on the last string and I'll say it again - given the injuries to these two, and the lack of production from the offense as a whole - why wouldn't you bring in Barry Bonds?
Jerk? Sure. Steroid abuser? Yep. Lightning rod for the media? Indeed. But we've got steroid abusers on the roster already (Giambi and Andy) Jerks (Farnsworth) and Lightning rods (Alex)...and it's not like these are the first jerks, steroid abusers or lightning rods that the team has had.
Side note:
I'm listening to Mike and Mad Dog and they're still clinging to this "Moving Joba to the rotation was a mistake" thing.
Chip: You may be right, but that depends on Jorge. I'd still rather have Gardner on the bench than Sexson and I don't see that much of a need for Sexson since we do have Betemit. It's not like Sexson is this great upgrade, though he does play solid defense.
As far as Nady, here are my issues:
1. He's 30
2. He's never played more than 130 games (2006 split between NYM and Pitt)
3. He's a career .279 hitter
4. His best BA for a season was 2006 and he hit .285
5. He's a sell-high trade for Pitt
6. While his pitch selection seems to have improved this year, I'm not sold since last year his SO:BB ratio was 4:1 and this year it's still 2:1
To me, you don't take a player like this in place of a young Melky when you're building a team for the future and Nady isn't the key that makes this team a WS winner
Chip: How can those two STILL say that, especially with as well as the bullpen has performed?
HYD - I'm not a big fan of Nady myself. He's always been a better first half player than second half in my mind. I would rather have Bay (yeah I know, so would everyone)
That said, I never really thought the Yankees believed Melky was a part of the team's long term future. To me they saw him as a place holder until Gardner, Jackson, and Tabata were ready. A guy whose value to the organization depreciates each year as his salary increases.
Regarding Sexson - I take a flier on him since he (a) costs nothing and (b) with the news about Damon and Matsui being somewhat bleak, I think DHing him and playing Posada behind the dish is better than having Posada DH and having a bottom of the lineup of Melky, Molina, Gardner.
As for M&MD - they're theory is that Joba is not as dominant a starter as he was a reliever and they won't be sold on Farnsworth and Veras until they go through a full season as the bridge to Rivera. Essentially for them to be 'wrong' Joba needs to win the cy young and Farnsworth and Veras can never give up a run.

Cuz they don't watch the games and rely on sound bites or game briefs and are slow to change preconceptions?
Chip....
Loved your disqualification of the reasons not to bring in Bonds.
If there is a pressing need to bring in "a hitter" and Sexson and Bonds are the two best candidates, I have a hard time reconciling picking a guy with 305 HR's and 1303 K's over a guy with 762 HR's and 2558 BB's.
M and the MD are garbage, plain and simple. Joba looks like a dominant starter and has only been beaten by one person - himself. He reminds me a little of Tom Seaver when he was with the Mutts. When he would have a "bad" game, he would give up 3-4 runs max and pitch about 6-7 innings. This would be considered struggling and the same analogy holds true for Joba. He is only going to get better and his velocity is steady even in the later innings. Tell these imbeciles to break up already. Their act has already gotten old. Cretins!
Lets get back to baseball.
Oh yeah - over here in NYC - Papsmear got booed visciously during the AllStar parade on 6th Avenue. Guess he will keep his pie-hole shut next time. We owe him a butt kickin' anyway.
Lets Go Yankees!
We are in a bind with the offense not producing due to injuries to practically every starting player on the roster except for Melky and Cano at some time during the season. These guys are apparently so close that they cannot perform unless the entire lineup is intact. This being the case the Yankees have shown their inability to bring in players from the minors to improve the poor output on the offensive side which was our saving grace in the off season. So, what can we do? If management wants to seriously contend than look around for a corner OF who hits from the right side. Its only one player but could be a very important piece with Posada going from catcher to DH. Thus a lineup which is consistent and may produce eventually. The next step would continue with what you have in Christian and Gardner play them. Find out about their ability and potential. Also look on the possibilities for 4 and 5 guys in the rotation and pitch the heck out of the young guys. So this way everyone has had a shot at it and the guess work is done and the winter can be productive with FA signings or trades. But it appears that the minors are empty of positional players with impact. if a guy like Pedroia can light it up being 5.5 with no speed. Brett Gardner if given the oppts. and being more aggressive with speed should be a producer but this team cannot win with Gardner and Melky in the OF fulltime, just no way. This coupled with Rasner and Ponson leads to mediocrity or .500 baseball.

You mix and Match that is what Teams do when trying to create a buzz , the Yankee farm is loaded (supposedly) and while they may be good you know at least that every player will not be on the radar making them expendable.
A pticher like Chase wright who is not on the Org. radar s o move him
The cuban 1b and eric duncan what are you doing with them?
is the team waiting to see what happens with Tex before deciding?
Trade your players .
teams like Minn, Mil, Tampa Bay , Phils , even Mets wil lbe in need of Offense trade Bobby A.
