Hey everyone! Katie here blogging again for the third game of a four-game series with the Red Sox. The weather looks to be an issue once again, so keep your fingers crossed the rain holds so we can see some baseball! Mike Mussina (10-6) will get the start for the Yankees today. He'll match up against Justin Masterson (4-2, 3.75). Stay tuned...be back after top of the first.
Top 1st
Mussina fans the first batter, but then gives up a base hit to Pedroia....good thing for the Yanks Pedroia gets a little greedy. Gardner, in place of Damon in left field, throws him out at second. Drew doubles and Manny gets on base after getting plunked with a pitch. Runners at the corners, and Mussina retires the side with a strikeout on Mike Lowell.

Three up, three down, and Abreu isn't a fan of that strike call.

Mussina has a 1-2-3 of his own. Two ground outs and one in the air.

Giambi walks, and Cano singles on a line to center to put Giambi in scoring position. Cabrera slices one to right, and Giambi hustles home, making a nice slide around Varitek for the score.

Pedroia keeps the inning alive with a two-out single to right, but Mussina fans Drew with a 2-2 fastball.

Bottom 3rd
One away and Jeter grounds one to center for a base hit. Abreu walks and with two on and one out, Masterson hits A-Rod with a pitch to load the bases. Masterson recovers and works out of a jam, however to keep the Yankees lead to one run.

Moose hits Manny with a pitch, but retires the next three batters.

Cano reaches first after getting hit by a pitch, but Masterson retires the next three batters.

Top 5th
Two away and Ellsbury singles on a ground ball to center. Molina catches him attempting to steal second for the third out.

Bottom 5th
A-Rod lines to left for a two-out single and steals second, then third with Giambi at the plate. Giambi, however, lines out to leave him stranded.

Top 6th
One down, and Mussina walks Drew. He retires the next two batter though to keep the Red Sox scoreless.

Bottom 6th
Both Betemit and Cabrera single to put two runners on. Masterson w moves them to second and third on a wild pitch and loads the bases after hitting Molina with a pitch. Betemit tags and scores on Gardner's sac fly and the Yanks are up two.

Top 7th
Veras replaces Mussina and retires the side.

Bottom 7th
One down and A-Rod walks. Giambi flies out and Betemit goes down swinging before slamming his bat down in disgust.

Farnsworth in for Veras, and yes, Jerry Springer is in attendance. Red Sox go down in order.

Timlin in to replace Lopez, and he notches a 1-2-3 of his own.

Mo in for the save, and gives up a single to center to Drew. Mo then hits Manny with a pitch...one of many this game. Lowell knocks one to right to score Drew and pull the Sox within one. Two on and no outs, and Mo loads the bases by hitting Youkilis with a pitch. Crisp goes down looking for Out 1. Varitek pops up for 2. Lugo swinging for third

Hey folks,
I'm back from vacation and glad to see the Yanks win a game. Boy, was I really wrong about Moose this season. This guy has been unbelievable and the Yanks might be in the basement without him. He picked up this team when they badly needed a win and I tip my hat to him.
The offense is scuffling so bad you can see the guys squeezing the sawdust out of the bats. It'll get going soon, I'm sure it will.
At least I hope it will.
