E-Boland and the Bombers

Hey everyone! Katie here blogging tonight for game 1 of a four-game series against the Red Sox. Andy Pettitte (9-5, 3.98) will be on the mound tonight for the pinstripes. Jon Lester (6-3, 3.48) get the start for Boston. Hope everyone is geared up for a great Fourth of July weekend! I'll be celebrating my birthday tomorrow from the ballpark! Back after top of the first!

Top of the first
Pettitte fans the first batter, but then gives up back-to-back singles. Ramirez reaches first on a Jeter throwing error and Pedroia puts the Red Sox on the board. They tack on another as Manny scores on Lowell's RBI single.

Bottom 1st
Inauspicious start for Lester, who gives up two walks to lead off. One away and Lester fans A-Rod and Giambi for outs 2 and 3.

Top 2
Coco Crisp leads off with a single to center and Varitek walks to put two runners on with no outs. With runners on second and third, Ellsbury doubles to extend the Red Sox lead to four.
4-0 Boston

Bottom 2nd
1-2-3 inning for Lester, who earns two strikeouts on Posada and Betemit.
4-0 Boston

Top 3rd
Pettitte gives up two walks but with two on and one out, the Red Sox get doubled up on Youkilis' grounder.

Bottom 3rd
Cabrera singles on a ground ball to left. One out and Jeter grounds into a double play. Hank's not gonna be happy.....

Top 4th
Red Sox play some small ball and manufacture a run. After Crisp's base-hit, he steals second, and moves to third on Varitek's ground out. Crisp tags up and scores on Lugo's sac fly, and the Red Soz are up 5.

Bottom 4th
Yanks go down in order on 8 pitches.

Top 5th
Pettitte's struggling a bit as he gives up first a double to Drew then a base hit to Manny. Runners at the corners with one out and Lowell's sac fly scores Drew. Youkilis doubles with two outs, and that prompts a Pettitte-pull from Girardi.

Bottom 5th
One away and Cano grounds to right for a base hit. Two down and Cabrera flies out to end the inning.

Three up, three down for the Red Sox as Gies retires the Red Sox in order.

Another 1-2-3 for Lester.

Giese retires his seventh consecutive batter, as he fans Manny to send it to the stretch.

Drew makes a great play at the wall to secure another 1-2-3 inning for Lester. That's 8 straight batters he's retired.

Top 8th
Hawkins in now to replace Giese. Varitek's RBI single allows Youkilis to score to put Boston up seven.

Bottom 8th
Cano lines one up the middle, but Betemit grounds into a double play. Damon goes down on strikes and is not pleased. In a rare display from him, he throws his bat and scowls his way back to the dugout.

Top 9th
Robertson in for Hawkins and he retires the Red Sox in order.

Bottom 9th
Jeter singles, but Lester retires the next three batters while throwing a complete game in only 105 pitches.
