Johnny Damon had a little bit of a setback today in Tampa. Not what you wanted to hear, I know.

TAMPA, Fla. - Yankees left fielder Johnny Damon had his first hitting off a tee session pushed back at least a couple days because of soreness in his injured left shoulder.
Damon sprained the shoulder when he ran into the left-field fence while attempting to catch a ball on July 4.
"Had a little tough time sleeping last night," Damon said after undergoing treatment Monday at the Yankees' minor league complex. "Today it felt a little sore. We're just going to hold back the swinging at least two more days. Hopefully it won't be too long of a time."
Also, Matsui's not yet scheduled for rehab games, so I'd say a Friday return is overly optimistic. Eric Milton is to throw his first bullpen tomorrow.
One of the really enjoyable things, to me, about the All-Star events is that players get to have their families involved. Some of you probably remember Jorge Posada having his son, Jorge Jr., with him a few years ago. I've always enjoyed getting to see players family members who I've gotten to know thru time around the park, and how much they enjoy the event. For instance, Alfonso Soriano had his mom there today and she remembered me an interview in their Dominican Republic home several years ago; or Michael Young's wife, Cristina, knows me.
With the Yankees, Alex Rodriguez's girls are a little young to take all this in, and Derek Jeter's not married (though his parents are sure to be around). But I know Mariano Rivera loves having his three sons and his wife in, but the boys in particular are loving it.
Today, Joe Girardi's daughter, Serena, and son, Dante, were at his side during his time of media availability. At times, they held the microphones up for him, and appeared to be loving it.

Nice post, Kat. Glad to hear the Rodriguez girls are too young to take much in. Hopefully that'll translate to the rest of the swirl about their current lives. If only it could stay that way. Would love to hear more about that interview with Soriano's mom in the DR.
From the trade rumors site: "[Joel] Sherman notes a rumor around the game that has Pat Gillick becoming Mariners president next year, and Brian Cashman coming on as his GM." I said a few weeks ago that I'd love to see Cash get the Seattle gig. Gillick is a great baseball man, and from everything I've read, he's a truly decent guy--much like Cash. I think they'd make a really good team, and Cash could learn a lot from him. Perhaps there could even be a Cash-Randolph reunion and there could be an all-good-guy franchise in Seattle. Sure, they're just rumors at this point, but Seattle could do a lot worse.
