Johnny Damon is going on the disabled list, and the Yankees aren't sure if he'll be able to come off the DL right when the 15 days are up. It seems clear that he'll be able to hit before he's able to throw a baseball, and GM Brian Cashman said: "He's been a hell of a player for us, so if we have a chance to get him back, even if it's only the bat, then we have to think hard about that."
Justin Christian was re-called to take Damon's spot on the roster.
They don't anticipate this is anything long-term, but it could be slightly longer than 15 days.
Damon said: "It's disappointing, but I knew the team needed to get another body up here, because otherwise the team would be in a bind."
He said he woke up today and his shoulder was a little more swollen. He may do rehab in Tampa, given that the Stadium will be off-limits during the All-Star break.
Alex Rodriguez, Mariano Rivera and Derek Jeter were all excited to make the All-Star Team, particularly since it is here at Yankee Stadium. I think Rivera and Jeter, in particular, since they have been Yankees their entire career, wanted to be part of this team if no other All-Star team. Mike Mussina was a little disappointed, but he understood the process.
