A stash of `staches'
Jason Giambi called himself "humbled' by the support he has received from the Yankes in his candidacy for the final spot on the All-Star roster, which will be determined by an Internet vote. Giambi really loved the idea of the club handing out 20,000 free fake mustaches in his honor (noting that his
He is especially gratified that he has won his way into the fans' goodwill, after having had some bumpy times with them. He says people come up to him and say that they appreciate the way he has bounced back from mistakes.
Yankees employees, meanwhile, are wearing the mustaches. Joe Girardi said, "I don't think I'll wear it during the game....unless I get tossed." That's a trick no manager has tried since Bobby Valentine gave it a shot after an ejection.

Hey Mark - I'm loving that Giambi is feeling the support. I actually write over at YanksBlog.com and we came up with a list of the top 10 Jason Giambi mustache facts and, after I read the column you wrote, I thought you might get a kick out of it. Who knows, maybe the big G will even get a chance to read it...hopefully while he's preparing for the ASG!
Well this guy posted this early on so I guess he is on point so far.
Posted by Gene Michaels Rep | July 9, 2008 13:12 Ok, I have officially today been allowed to use My alt Moniker by the man himself so here is the start.
I talked to Gene Micheal today for a lengthly time and we discussed every thing I mean every thing baseball related.
so I will give you all just a tibet of trade possibilities we was shooting the breeze with

possible trades.
Gene Acknowledged that something has to be done there is no getting around it. I reminded him that in his hey day he did not make it his purpose to go after just a big name but rather a "fit" for his roster.
LH OF from Clev was viewed as the perfect bench guy.
BC stated that while he loves this guy so much there is too many LH Bats on the bench . Stick agreed but only to a degree and reminded me about Paul O'Neil.
RH Bat from Pitt - this would be all I will say as all parties agreed on this player.
As for Burnett , while the jury is still out on McCutchen on being a SP or RP the jury is not out on him being dealt the team still views him high. but if they could turn some corners and offer other players then perhaps a deal can be done.
When I reminded my now GOOD friend Stick about his ability to make deals with lesser knowns to good results he could not hold back his glee.
Today is Giambi Mustache day
I still have those two All Star game tickets for next week that I wont be able to attend, Islander1955@aol.com Last chance.
Giambi Mustache can hopefully make its appearance at the ASG. Get on and VOTE!!!!
I have 5 tix to the Young stars my family can't go Sunday if anyone needs them.

Jim A,
Couldn't agree more!

still miss a lot about Long Island/NY: Diners, Bakeries, good pizza and great Deli's. You just can't find that stuff in Virginia, you only learn to convince yourself it's just as good after about 10 years or more.
You left one off - at least for me. Fresh mozzarella! I can't find that in Va Beach!
Is it my imagination, or are the fellas suddenly developing some cojones?
4 BIG wins in a row.
Hope there isn't a let down in the Steel Town tomorrow. Let's go Yanks!
Boss,
Yes, fresh mozzarella....and good canoli....it's been way to long since I've had any of that. I can make a good chocolate egg cream but it's not the same when it's made at home.
I posted this on one of the other threads about today's game:
This team is reminding me a little of 1996 by winning a few games with good starting pitching and a shutdown bullpen. I mean Kyle Farnsworth's ERA is now under 4.00!
They scratch out a couple of runs and slam the door after the sixth inning.
I'd really like the offense to wake up though....that would be real nice.
Hey Jim A.,
I hear ya. Unfortunately, the bottom of the order, in particular, is really beginning to look like that '96 team. Some decent fielders (Molina especially), but no sticks at all. My main concern is that none of them seem to be the strong situational hitters and bunters that Torre had at the bottom of his lineup. I have little faith in Melky anymore, and I don't think that Molina is suited to be an every day catcher. So, unless Jorge's arm pops back into place quickly, I think we're gonna need to pick up a decent hitting backstop somewhere for the stretch run. Any ideas?
Someone--I thing it was Chip--came up with an interesting trade proposal:
KC CF DeJesus, C Buck, and P Gil Meche
NYY CF Melky, P's Horne & Kennedy, OF Tabata
Not sure I'm ready to part with Horne or Tabata, but if Cash is thinking he can make a run at this thing this year without losing too much in the process, why not? DeJesus is certainly an upgrade over Melky at the plate, if not in CF; Buck offers excellent help behind it; and Meche is a good deal and solid 3-4 guy in a top-notch rotation.
GREAT WIN BY THE YANKS!!!! SWEPT THE GARBAGE OUT OF THE BRONX!!! Now we have to finish strong going into the break, get some of our boys back and who knows???????
GO YANKS!!!!!
Absolutely not on Meche.
The guy is signed through 2011 and he's nothing more than a 3/4 starter in a good rotation.
For those who want Sabathia (and Pettitte) signed next season, there would be no room for Meche when you've got a potential rotation of Sabathia, Wang, Pettitte, Joba and Hughes.
Adding Meche doesn't make any sense if you want to the big fish in the offseason.
Great Win! Get the "Devil" Rays outta here and shut up Kazmir with the wise cracks. We are ready to go on a run, I can feel it in my bones. KC won't give us Meche, but I think Washburn is a better choice. Molina has caught him before, he isn't an old washed up pitcher and he projects as a back of the rotation starter. He is better than Rasner and has been through the playoff battles before. I think he would fit in nicely. Bruney will be back soon, which spells DFA for Hawkins.
Lets Go Yankees! Time to make a run and pass Sully the Seamonster's Nation.
Tell Cas Ob her ladies are not gonna get away this year. We will catch 'em.
Just thinking that maybe those two game were exactly the psychological "chink" in the armor the young Rays needed to start thinking too much.
I wouldn't be surprised, though, if the Rays made a big trade in the next week. Fuentes, maybe?
And, Mark, Giambi should be humbled. He's done a great job in the last 6 weeks, but he doesn't deserve a spot on the All-Star roster, 'stache or not. Dye wins out on pure stats. Longoria deserves the spot on pure performance--MUCH tougher position, virtually equal production. Sure, he's short on taters, but he's got 22 doubles, 6 SB vs. 0 CS, only 5 E's, and he's a rook for cryin out loud! He's hitting 30 pts. higher than Giambi (and only 15-20 pts under Dye), and is within 5-10 rbi of both of them. 'Stache and Yankee loyalty aside, I go with the rook from the upstart devil team.
I did NOT post the above. If I had all star tickets I would be going, not looking to give them away to people i don't know on the internet. Now really, stop using my name and islanders name.
Longoria definitely deserves it more.
Not only because of his stick, but he might already be the best defensive third baseman in the league.
jennifer,
Relax.
The troll is giving out my e-mail address, that was temporary a month ago. That he swiped off of the Islander blog.
The address is no longer valid.
In fact, I didn't even get any inquiries from his nonsense. (If I did they went to spam and were dumped without me seeing them).
He/she is doing no harm other than giving himself a little sphincter rush when he/she posts that nonsense.
Ignore it.
I know Giambi may not deserve it but I voted for him.......20 times. I can't help it, I'm a Yankee fan and it's Yankee Friggin' Stadium for crying out loud.
Good of you to admit it, Jim. Let it all hang out.
The post at 19:47 Not Me, and I still have the tickets at Jensvinegar11@aol.com. Makes a great salad too. Go Sox.
NY is not going to trade Horne ,Kennedy,Melky and Tabata for Buck why does NY need him in the first place?Meche who has an enormous contract and is nothing more than a 4th or 5th starter.DeJesus makes some sense but I think NY likes what they see in Gardner.
Harang is hurting
Bedard is not 100%
if NY trades for a SP Randy Wolf is the most likely candidate.I wonder if Maholm and Marte are available ?
Coming from me I will tell you all this ..as of right now unless something comes that blows the yanks mind there will be no big time major deals , as for SP there is none avail that is above being a number 5 Starter we already have a few.
Players like David Delluci would be needed , and it's confirmed that a delluci if not LH would be sought for Bench roles after however he is LH so not happening.
Also the Yankees are in a funny situation the trades they can use consists of positions that FA plays a big part of so they thought is too wait
