Turns out Ian Kennedy DID pitch Monday, an earlier report of a rainout in Tampa notwithstanding.
The Yankees just called -- well, not all of them, just one of their media-relations staffers -- and corrected the earlier information they provided. Hey, it happens.
If I were any kind of reporter, I'd be in Tampa checking it out myself instead of blogging about Mike and the Mad Dog's breakup and participating in a live chat with Baumbach on The Final Score blog.
Anyway, now the word is Kennedy did pitch somewhere. When I find out how he did, I'll pass it along.
Here we go: In his first rehab start, Kennedy (strained lat) threw 58 pitches over three innings for Tampa of the Gulf Coast League at Lakeland.

I had to laugh when I saw that King Felix hit the first grand slam by an AL pitcher in 37 years, especially when you consider that he hit it against Johan Santana.
How embarrassing. King Felix was a lifetime 1-8 with 6 K's before that swing.
That home run aside, Santana is not the same pitcher he was a year ago. He's just not. His fastball has lost a few miles and there is not as much separation between his fastball and his offspeed pitches.
Not a good sign and he's pitching in an inferior league.
With Santana's natural decline in a few years, it certainly looks like the non-trade for him over the offseason was absolutely the right move in retrospect.
Viper: As one Yankee fan who was against the trade and desperately looking for the Yankees to develope from within. I take no great pleasure in the Grand Slam off of Santana but indicates what can happen with long term contracts with pitchers. Its a crap shoot even with one of the best around. This is not Santana's swan song but it could be a predictor of things to come.
The situation with our OF and Giambi is a prime example of heavy contracts with older players. This is keeping Gardner down on the farm. Thus no push for Melky and another facet of the game speed which cannot be utilized by Girardi at his discretion.
Maybe the Yankee FO is not as dumb as it has been in the past.
Melancon may be in SWB tomorrow. That's the discussion I was hearing tonight and I didn't see him in Trenton.
Actually, the promotion will be Aceves. I guess the quote people were talking about regarding a talented pitcher from Trenton was misinterpreted or speculated that it would be Melancon. I left the game early tonight too, so maybe that's why I didn't see Melancon. I think he's got some time before he gets promoted as argued on the previous blog.
Cox came off the DL and the corresponding move was to send Ponson to Trenton, though this is probably just on paper as it is widely assumed that the Yanks will be using Ponson against the Mets.
Ahhh the racist trolls are coming out
Larry
Gardner is making a statement at Scranton.
He hit his 10th triple last night and his OBP is over .400.
The Yanks have to be considering their options.
Package Melky or Gardner in a trade to net a pitcher like Fuentes or Bedard .
Miranda has also picked it up at Scranton. His game seems to be clicking.
Kennedy pitched on I believe Saturday the 21st for the GCL Yanks
3 innings
3 hits
1 run
7 SO
got the W
I've noticed all year that Melancon, both with Tampa @ Trenton, has been mostley pitching 2 innings per appearance(three last night). Anyone know what the long-term plan is for him?
