Roster moves

Between games, the Yankees put Hideki Matsui (knee) on the 15-day DL, optioned Ross Ohlendorf to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, activated Sidney Ponson and recalled . . .

Kei Igawa.

Enjoy Game 2.

I just don't understand why they keep bring Igawa back. The guy can't pitch at the Major league level. Just eat the 20 mil and send him back to Japan.

john g.

actually, i don't think there's a bigger insult to igawa than this: he is being called to mop up in case ponson explodes, thus saving the already depleted bullpen.

if ponson somehow manufactures a decent start, igawa will go and perhaps gardner / robertson called up.

I hope that you're right Gil. I'm hoping that Ponson will give the Yanks 7 solid and then they can send Igawa back to the Land of the Rising Sun!

John,

I'm with Gil on this, he's just up incase Ponson can't get through the third inning - he'll be back in AAA tomorrow.

Chip,

Makes sense. I probably took it out of context with the way that I heard the news: Ohlendorf sent to minors, Igawa called up. It sounded like he was a replacement for Ohlendorf and not as an insurance policy for Ponson.
