Are the Yankees going to "cash in" some lesser pitching prospects for some starters and another reliever? Two pitchers I would love to see the Yankees get is Marte on Pirates and Washburn from Seattle.I love Washburn's make up, he eats innings keeps team close and pitches with an edge. He has terrible numbers and another year left at 9mil maybe the Yankees can steal him for nothing.
I wouldn't exactly characterize Washburn as an innings eater .An innings eater is someone who pitches into the 7 th and 8th innings. He averages 5+ to 6 innings astart.Like you said he has terrible numbers why would pitching for NY change that ?
On the other hand Marte would fit in nicely.
Washburn is Ponson with a better physique.
NO ON WASHBURN.
Here's the list in what would be sufficient upgrades that would likely lead to contender status IMO...
1. CC
2. Sheets (if he's availible and more importantly HEALTHY which could be a very volatile situation when looking at Sheet's notorious resume it reads only slightly better than Pavano's...)
3. Oswalt (I really don't like this guy he's clearly in decline and we'd be stuck with him for 3 more years and apparently he hates New York so...)
4. Harang (My personal favorite I'd take this guy over anybody because I believe his value to be artificially low having played for the lowly reds all year and if I'm not mistaken would not cost us our ubertalent from the farm he's my darkhorse)
5. Burnett/Harden (Both have ace stuff but like Sheets come with the "Handle With Care" sticker. These Injury prone Ace types are the most difficult in my oppinion to trade for because of their notorious inability to stay healthy. I'm glad I'm not Cashman and forced to make a deal for one of the China Doll trio...
I would rather the Yanks take their lumps this year and pick up CC, Sheets, Harden or Darvish when they are FA's in the offseason.
More spare parts from the garbage dump =
Julian Tavarez rejected the Brewers' designation for assignment and elected to become a free agent on Tuesday, the Brewers' official site reports.
Just a lil copy and paste info for those interested on Betances and Sanchez:
GCL Yanks lose to Phillies, 5-1
Humberto Sanchez made his Yankee debut in his return from surgery, giving up a run on a hit, a walk, and a hit batsman in 2/3 of an inning.
Dellin Betances, also rehabbing, struggled. In 2 innings, the tall righty gave up 3 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks.
Lets hope we see Humberto in 2009 sometime.
