« Gameday Live 31: Mariners at Yankees | Main | Posada will try to rehab shoulder with rest »

Yankee lineup and Hughes, Posada updates

* On Jorge Posada, they still haven't heard back from the Reds team doc because the MRI got lost in the mail or something. So they resent it yesterday. But all of the other docs have prescribed rest. If that's the plan, Girardi says Posada will need two weeks off, two weeks of strengthening his shoulder and then a minor-league rehab assignment. I'd say look for Posada in mid-June at the earliest.

* Phil Hughes saw a eye doctor today and was told he is slightly nearsighted. So that's why he's had problems with the catcher's signs. So stop blaming poor Chris Stewart! Anyway, Hughes is going to be rocking glasses on the mound. (He doesn't like contacts.) "I'll look like I went to college," he said.

* Jose Veras is here to replace Hughes on the roster. So they will have to make another roster move to make room for Darrell Rasner on Sunday. That could be Veras, or it could be Ian Kennedy. My guess, FWIW, is Kennedy, because they don't need a fifth starter until May 10. So this would give Kennedy two starts in the minors, at least, and they could see if Kei Igawa has improved or is still just, uh, Kei Igawa.

* I'd be remiss if I didn't tell you guys to check out the blog I do when I'm not covering baseball games, and that's The Final Score.

Re Posada:

I resent it, too.

So does he. My bad.

Is there any way I can switch to first base so I can sleep at night knowing I won't have to crash into the wall to make a catch? I have nightmares of my body even touching that scary wall in rightfield. Please! Somebody help me!

Shouldn't you be getting ready for the game?
