Wang has MILD calf strain

Don't everybody freak out at once, but Chien-Ming Wang has a very mild strain of his right calf. He came in with a little irritation, which he said first occurred when he covered first base in the seventh inning against the Mets Sunday. He came in for treatment on the off-day Monday, and it has been feeling better each day, but he was examined at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia University Medical Center (longest name ever).

An MRI was done, and he was examined by team physician Stuart Herson, as well as Dr. Chris Ahmad. He is not expected to miss a start.

Wang said: "I'm going to be fine."
He is not worried about it, he said, as it is getting better each day. It does not hurt when he walks: "Now it's good." He said he expects to make his next start.

I think Jeter has been very frustrated.
Remember after the 2004 ALCS (I have to look up who they played... was it the Angels?) when a reporter asked Jeter "is this more shocking considering the championships this team has won" Jeter cut the guy off saying "It's not the same team."

There must be a sense of "We were the gold standard... and now my second baseman can't even cover the f---ing bag."

But all the talk of "professionalism" and "dedication" etc is all a smokescreen.

It comes down to pitching.
The 2004 Red Sox looked and acted like the cast of The Road Warrior and the 2006 Cardinals looked like they had less fun than Elliot Spitzer visiting his in laws.

Both pitched when they needed it.

If Randy Johnson didn't get smacked around in the 2005 or 2006 playoffs or if Rivera retired the Sox in the bottom of the 9th in game 4... then the Yankees would have won one of those World Series...

Gary Sheffield, A-Rod, Randy Johnson, Kyle Farnsworth and Giambi would all be treated as Yankee World Series heroes, Torre retires as a Champ

It comes down to pitching.
Not sure why that is so hard to figure out

Now we get to see how Rasner does on 11 days rest.

Can anybody remember what the pipe dream was that prompted his being skipped in the rotation?

Rasner was skipped in the rotation because The Yanks were rained out Friday. Girardi wanted to go with Pettitte and Wang in the final 2 games of the Met series.
The Yanks beat Minnesota in the ALCS in 2004 and Randy Johnson got beat up by the Angels in 2005.

"The Yanks beat Minnesota in the ALCS in 2004". First off that was the ALDS, secondly so what?

My mistake. I meant the ALDS. I think that I was responding to Sully's post above, but I may have read it wrong.

Sully,

no one doubts the importance of pitching.
for instance, yesterday moose could have gotten out of the 1st with 1 run in if it weren't for his lazy 2b. pitching is aided by the effort and dedication of the defense, and defensive bums (damon, abreu) hurt the pitcher.

you can break down any sport to different crucial factors, yet there is such a thing as team atmosphere, or team mentality.
it is NO ACCIDENT that the yanks have been such an easy out in the play offs, that when they go down they stay down.

Sully is a Red Sox fan (a good one though) and he was just being sarcastic.

Barry,
After re-reading his post, yup, you're right. I should have known better.

How well I remember the wailing and gnashing of keyboards last year over Edwar's having to go too long between appearances ...
:-(

Before we chastise the "lazy" guy at 2B - maybe the guy who should get most of the blame is the guy who made the errant throw to 1B on a very routine play.

Hey, even the Captain isn't perfect. But, let's face it - a good throw on a routine play that Jeter has made 50,000 times over the last 12 years prohibits the floodgates from opening in the first place.

Not trying to knock Jeter, but it's unfair to Cano to pin it all on him.

Finally a game I can look at without holding my hands up to my face like at a horror movie, ready to block out the screen.

Ahhh, the process has begun to convert Joba to a starter.

Joe Girardi just said so on the YES Postgame.

Good. They need him to be a starter.
