Kyle Farnsworth's three-game suspension was slashed to one game by Major League Baseball. He was suspended for throwing behind Manny Ramirez's head last month. He will miss tonight's game.
Sounds like Alex Rodriguez's rehab is going swimmingly. The AP report out of Tampa says he took 57 swings in batting practice, and fielded 31 grounders at third base. It says he hit several long home runs, and ran in the outfield, and said the session went "good."
Jorge Posada also took batting practice for the first time since going on the DL. The report said he took 28 swings right-handed and 26 left-handed.
Since this has been discussed ad nauseam on talk radio, do you like Joba Chamberlain getting pumped up on the mound or is it too much?

Hello Kat -
I was at the game sat real close to the field and got to see Joba up close and after the Strike out he was excited but no in your face excited he was happy he was able to redeem himself with the same batter that rocked him nights ago.
we have to remember the Dave D HR was the first time Joba got rocked in the staduim . Honestly it was us fans that was creating the buzz of revenge
I don't mind the fist pump from Joba or Papelbon or Eckersley
I like some guys are emotional and some guys are reserved.
Even on the Torre Yankees... you had your Paul O'Neills and David Wells... and you had your Bernie Williams and Mariano Riveras
You had a Mike Mussina doing crosswords and you had Clemens throwing bats and hanging out with 15 year olds.
It's the variety that i dig
As a kid I loved Tug McGraw who made Joba look like a monk
I've heard people on this site (and other places) say it just gives the other team an extra reason to want to beat him...really?
My thing is if it takes the opposing pitcher pumping his fist to make you want to get a hit off him then you need your head examined. It's like people making a big deal out of "bulletin board material." I mean do you think that players really need stuff like that to get motivated? I certainly hope not.
Bottom line is I tend to agree with Gammons on it. Gammons this morning said that if he thought it was contrived he would have a problem with it - something like pulling out a sharpie like TO for example - but this is just a show of emotion. Different players are going to express their emotions differently. Melky and Cano do their dance in the dugout, Jeter pumps his fist (though not as demonstratively), Joba pumps his fist...so be it. He isn't the first player, won't be the last. Look, last year people credited Duncan, Joba, Melky, and Cano for injecting youthful enthusiasm into a very buttoned up clubhouse - well this is some youthful enthusiasm.
And I don't want to hear anything about it not being "the Yankee way" Babe Ruth ran around the bases tipping his cap to the fans, Rickey Henderson was one of the biggest hot dogs around with his homerun trots, we've had numerous guys who have stared at home runs or showed emotion on the mound.
Sully,
Do you remember Al Hrabosky???
Youngsters (unless they have a Dad like Jim A.) often think it's cool to boast and gloat, grownups usually don't. Joba is still a youngster. The day will come when he will not feel that getting out the likes of David Delucci calls for a full 360, two fist pumps and a scream. He'll act like he's been there before, because he will have been there before. And we'll have fun remembering when he was a rookie.
I like less demonstrative celebrations. I prefer that you have reached a certain level of play and should act accordingly. I do not believe Joba tends to celebrate at the expense of his opponent but I would prefer a more subdued celebration. But who am I who the hell is Gammons or any other commentator to judge what is right or wrong. I can't stand Manny hanging out at home plate admiring one of his soon to be 500 hrs. but the guy can hit against anyone. So, who's going to stop it. Maybe the catcher as his steps on home plate or the pitcher the next time up. If the celebration gets out of hand the other team will react.
I think every player needs to "earn" the right to style. This kid hasn't proven a thing yet and he already wants to make the game about him instead of the team. Be successful for 6-8 years....then you can have your own style. Till then show respect to your seniors and keep you childish attitude to yourself.
Chip,
Doesn't seem like you've played much ball then. I have had many moments when my team was dead until some big mouth on the oppsong team fired us back up. After the butt whuppin his team mates were all telling him to keep his stupid mouth shut for now on. Thats reality...not a cliche.
Nudge,
I couldn't agree with you more, you nailed it.
