Lineup and All-Star balloting
The first results from American League All-Star balloting are out. Here's how some Yankees are faring:
Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter each lead the voting by a large margin at their positions. Hideki Matsui is second in DH voting to David Ortiz, who has the most votes of any American League player at any position. Bobby Abreu is fifth among outfielders (Manny Ramirez, Ichiro Suzuki and Vladimir Guerrero hold the top three slots). Robinson Cano is second in voting at second base, behind Boston's Dustin Pedroia. Jason Giambi is third at first base, behind Boston's Kevin Youkilis and Minnesota's Justin Morneau. Jorge Posada is fourth at catcher, despite barely having played. Jason Varitek leads voting.
So the Red Sox top the voting at first base, catcher, outfield, DH and second base; the Yankees lead in the two other spots -- shortstop and third base.
Jorge Posada caught six innings today in extended spring training. Joe Girardi said that a week from now, Posada could be "pretty close."
Phil Hughes is to have a bone scan later this week to check on the stress fracture in his rib.

And I can ride my bike with no handelbars,
no handlebars,
with no handlebars.
What a frustrating loss this one was. Two 4 run leads blown, bases loaded and no one out in the 11th and we only score one run. All I could think was "oh no" when the graphic on espn showed that Hawkins was pitching the bottom of the 11th with a one run lead. It wasn't long before the little yellow dots were circling the bases. Maybe it's time to reward good performances and penalize poor ones, regardless of salary, ego or anything else. Competition gets people out of they're comfort zones. Today's loss felt like two or three losses.
