Kennedy/Hughes update, lineup
Here's an update on Ian Kennedy and Phil Hughes.
Kennedy, in fact, had an MRI in New York today and was diagnosed with bursitis behind his scapular, as well as a right lat muscle strain. Joe Girardi said Kennedy will be shut down for seven or eight days. This is the same problem Kennedy developed in September. Said Girardi: "Obviously you look at it any time you have a repeat injury, to see what's going on."
www.MayoClinic.com desribes bursitis as a "painful inflammation," which occurs when a bursa becomes inflamed. Bursae are "small, fluid-filled sacs (that) lubricate and cushion pressure points between your bones and the tendons and muscles near your joints."
Phil Hughes had a bone scan today and there's still a "hot spot" in his rib. He'll have another scan in a week.
Jorge Posada will have a big throw day tomorrow, and could be cleared to do everything in games by Saturday.
Girardi can't judge until Joba Chamberlain pitches tonight, and how he comes through that outing, just how viable a candidate to start next time through the rotation Chamberlain is.
"I can't tell you, 100 percent, that he's going to take that (rotation spot)," Girardi said. "It's obviously something that's crossed everybody's mind."
