Gameday Live 43: Yankees-Mets... Or Not

Game was just postponed, no makeup set. No live blog either, dadgummit! See you all tomorrow at 1 for the first Subway Series installment. The gang at the Stadium will fill you in more later.

Wow....you don't hear/read dadgummit every day, especially in a NY paper.

Dan Giese seems to have slipped thru the radar even though the kid is 31 he's been lights out at Scranton.
Pitched a 7 inning shutout tonight.His ERA is .096.
I don't think he's pitched a bad game all yr.
I wonder if he's a fluke or a very late bloomer ?
Does anyone know what his pitches are and velocity ?

In regard to Dan Geise, last year or two years ago, this pitcher on the Cardinals, at 34 year old (Franklin) came up with some kind of new grip and went from being bad or so-so to great in his role.

So 31 is not that old I don't think to have it all come together.

I will look up Dan on YouTube.com maybe there is a clip of him pitching.

Ruse always comes up with some clever info.

Following the minor leagues is fun ... like last year, Ankiel had 32 HR's at AAA Memphis and look what he did in the MLB last summer after being called up ... and again this year ... laser throws and assists, HR's, amazing catches ...

Why can't the Yankees find a player like that?

Anyway, bring up Dan Giese!

this could be the most disturbing/amusing story of the year.
http://www.nydailynews.com/gossip/2008/05/16/2008-05-16_jason_giambi_and_his_magic_gold_thong.html

Here is part of the story:
The key to turning the Yankees season around could be under Jason Giambi's pinstriped pants.

The Yankee slugger revealed Friday he slips on a gold lamé thong with a flame-line waistband when he's trying to get out of a hitting slump - and he's shared it with his teammates.

"It works every time," Giambi told the Daily News after his secret was outed on Portfolio.com.

Derek Jeter agreed that Giambi's thong works, although "it's so uncomfortable running around the bases."

"I had it over my shorts and stuff," he said. "I was 0-for-32 and I hit a homer on the first pitch. That's the only time I've ever worn it."

Johnny Damon also admitted donning the golden panties "probably three times."

"I may need to wear it again soon," said Damon, who is batting a mediocre .255.

What is the secret of Giambi's golden thong?

"You're not worrying about your hands or your balance at the plate," Damon said. "You're worried about the uncomfortable feeling you're receiving."

Ant -
Ankiel also was found to have used HGH and the PCL is known for being a hitter's league.

For what it's worth - Shelley Duncan hit a ton of HR in Scranton before being called up last year. Triple A performance doesn't always equal ML success.

Anyone notice how almost all of the Latest Yankees Headlines in today's Newsday is about the Mets? It's shameful how one person can use such a reputable newspaper for his/her own personal interests and vendettas. How can Newsday let this person get away with such cheap nonsense? Newsdays sports section needs a serious overhaul and I'm hoping the Dolans will turn it into a serious sensible source for readers to find objective unbiased sports reporting...with common sense formatting...just the way a reputable paper should conduct its business.

...oh and is it surprising to anyone to see a video of the Mets Santana on the Yankees blog? Not in the least bit. It's par for the course with this brillant formatting designed more for a rag sheet than a serious source for sports reporting.

I hope the Dolans are Yankees fans. You'll see this paper change in a hurry if so.

No idea what you guys are talking about, since I never see a hard copy of Newsday and on my screen today's online version led with stories about Pettite, Joba and Kennedy.

But I'm curious. Who is this 'one person' and what are 'his or her personal interests'?

Most papers cater to the interests of their local readership. Is Long Island predominantly Mets country?

Pardon the ignorance of someone who has only been there a couple of times...

NYY Fan and Anon,
I actually like it when the Mets are plastered all over the back page of the paper. It means something bad is happening most of the time and the writers smell blood and in this case it's the blood of a really good man in Willie Randolph, who unfortunately is not that good of a manager.

I'd like it if the only time the Yanks appeared in the paper was to have their box scores printed with the number next to the Yanks name bigger than the other team's number. We all know that can't happen in NY as we can see by "thong gate" but I'll take dopey stories like that over a witch hunt any day.

Honestly the Yanks are very lucky right now. They aren't playing well and they aren't back page news so they have time to right the ship before the media calls for heads to start rolling.

JIM A.

What do you mean by "thong gate" ? Crotchless ?
(I've read the story so no need to repeat it)

Maybe if the thong is riding up to the left he'd be so inclined to take the ball to the opposite field??

This is not print, it's online. When you click on the Yankees link, you get the main story about Pettitte. But then it say More Yankees and it's mostly about the Mets. Like this:

More Yankees
* Ken Davidoff: Randolph's fate is on the clock ... calendar
*Wagner: Don't compare me with Lo Duca
*Randolph 'joking' about his head being on block
*Wagner apologizes to Delgado; Mets clear the air

The Mets have their own links and pages. We don't need to read their stories on the Yankees pages. It's just lacks common sense and it's an insult to Yankees and their fans.

This is something I will bring to Mr. Dolan's attention when he takes over. I will be writing some letters, making some phone calls, sending some email. This nonsense should be put to an end.

Do you guys have a video of Santana at the top of this blog? Wouldn't you rather see Joba, Mo, A-Rod, Jeter, Pettitte...any Yankee really?...rather than Santana? After all this is a Yankees blog. Is this a reminder of the Yankees potential mistake? This video comes off as in your face sports reporting in my eyes. Whoever formats these pages is obviously not a Yankees fan.
