Jorge Posada is headed to the disabled list. Joe Girardi called it a "distinct possibility," but Posada left no room for interpretation: "I'm going on the DL."
Posada called it: "the biggest disappointment, probably, of my career, going on the DL."
He said he was apologizing to the Yankees, who signed him to a four-year, $52.4-million contract after the season.
Earlier in the month, Posada was diagnosed with a right shoulder strain as he had lost arm strength. He got back behind the plate April 22nd, and everything seemed to be going well until today, when he was scratched from the lineup about the time of first pitch. He's regressed. His shoulder hurts. He lost arm strength again. And now, Posada said, he wants to see Dr. James Andrews.
Bad news for the Yankees.
They designated Chad Moeller for assignment on Friday so chances are good that they will not be able to get him back.

Before deciding on a more permanent solution, the Yankees will need to promote somone until either 1. Moeller is signed by another team or 2. Moeller clears waivers and the Yanks can get him back. What does this mean? Well, there are two options at SWB, Chris Stewart who we signed at the end of spring training (he was on the Rangers opening day roster in 2007, but never played in a game) and Jason Brown who has spent the past 3 spring trainings working with Yankee pitchers, caught for the Thunder last year, and is right up there with Shelley, Giambi, and Damon with regard to fan friendliness. Stewart seems to have the better resume and he's been getting most of the playing time at SWB, but if the Yanks were to promote him and then either got Moeller back or found someone else (FA or trade) then they would probably lose him or at least would run the risk of losing him since he'd have to clear waivers just like Moeller is now. Since we've already had Molina hurt this year, catching depth is important for this team. So, I say we consider promoting Brown until we find out what's happening with Moeller and then we make a decision.
Thoughts?
Rasner pitched well today only giving up one run through 6 innings (he entered the 7th, but did not record any outs). Apparently there was some controversy over the one run he gave up. He gave up what appeared to be a ground rule double as the ball entered the hometeam bullpen in foul territory. Porter didn't chase the ball because he thought it was a ground rule double. Well, the batter advanced to third as a result. A sac fly and two strikeouts followed, so that run may never have scored if not for that goofy play.
Other options I've heard include the dreaded Piazza, Gerald Laird, and Damien Miller. None of these guys is really an ideal player for the team, but we need someone there. Also heard someone talking about Flaherty coming out of the booth; I'm pretty sure they were joking.
Seems Stewart does have some MLB experience (23 games) and Mirabelli is another option.
Has Hank asked for Piazza's phone number yet?
Why not reactivate Yogi?
