Hughes on DL
The Yankees just announced that they have placed Phil Hughes on the 15-day disabled list with a right oblique muscle strain. More info on this later, but so much for the question of whether he's staying in the rotation or not.

Let me get this straight: you guys could've had Johan Santana for this guy and Cashman said no?
Hughes is injury-prone and isn't good when he pitches. I also thought for some reason he threw harder than he actually does.
And Kennedy is a 4th starter...at best.
Yanks are not making the playoffs this year. Sweet. Somewhere Joe Torre, you know, the guy your organization totally disrespected, is laughing.
WHY DO ALL REDSUX FANS ALWAYS FLAP THEIR GUMS IN APRIL???
I speak the truth, bro. I know it hurts. Hey, we missed the playoffs 2 years ago and last time I checked, we had a good 2007.
Just accept this is what some call a "rebuilding" season.
Red Sox fan, you are a moron. How can you say someone is injury prone when they are 21? Yes, he had a DL stint last year, but remember that he was pitching a no-hitter in the 7th at the ripe old age of 20 when he was doing it. The guy does throw hard. Low-mid 90's fastball.
As a lifelong Yankee fan, I will accept this as a transition year without issue. I expect more of my club next year after a season of Girardi and another year of the kids developing. I am not going to cry about it. I know what these guys can bring us in the future, and if it takes a transition year to get there, so be it.
And also, no... We couldn't have had Santana for this guy. It was Hughes and another of our big three, as well as other prospects for Santana.
Can't forget the Melkman was in that deal. Look how well he's playing...
Hughes is not on the DL he is not injured. The organization can't seem to come to grips with the consequences of their decisions and actions with regard to having the naive delusions that go with skipping out on Johan Santana for A 21 yr old kid with no 3rd pitch.
They're embarrassed and they should be but they are cowards for not owning up to their mistake.
Don't hold back Michael.
Tell us how you really feel
Hughes' injury reminds me of Rodney in Caddyshack when the ball bounced off of his arm allowing them to bring in Danny Noonan.
"Ow my arm!"
It's the same injury Joe Borowski had in Cleveland... the "You are hurting the team" injury
"Hey, that kangaroo just took my ball."
They're not even going to let him throw in PUBLIC!!!
THAT'S HOW EMBARRASSED THEY ARE!!
I'm not kidding I honestly think they're gonna lock him up in an underground facility and beat a circle change out of him and we may not see him for a long time.
I'M OFFICIALLY A CONSPIRACY THEORIST!!!
It's either that or they really are worried that if he gets shellacked again he'll fall apart!!!
God I hope it's my first theory not that one...
This is working out fabulously this year!!!
Well this will keep his innings down at least....of course when he's averaging about 3 innings per start I guess that will not be a problem.
I wonder who has the job of making up injuries for players who need to be stashed on the DL.
Here's a hypothetical for yall to chew on...
Say he goes out there and gets LIT again but not against the Mariners...No against the Mudhens or whoever the hell it is they play in Scranton...
Then what?
Maybe the kid who's so "beyond his years with outstanding composure" is actually just as vulnerable as the next kid who's had to carry the uneviable tag of being a "franchise" savior and the incredibly unfair pressure that goes along with such a title?
All I'm sayin is if you believe he's hurt I've got a bridge to sell you. I live in Midtown we can meet in an hour if ya'd like.
;-(
Give the kid an OSCAR..
Take a bow Phil!!!
Bravo Lad.
He has probably never experienced any extended run of failure in his life so this will show us what kind of guy he is. If he bounces back and become the Hughes we've heard about, awesome. If not, well then he's just another trumped up Yankees prospect and lord knows I've seen plenty of them during my fanhood.
LOL
I found this was amusing...

"how’s Joba doing in the pen? Looked good yesterday and today
Oh he didn’t pitch, why cause our starters couldn’t get to the 8th with a lead. Put him in the rotation"
And when Huey Duey and Louie are blowing Joba's lead in the 8th, the call will be for Joba to go BACK to the bullpen
Don't worry Sully, then we'll call on Roboduck. In fact, Edwar is perfect for that role since that duck was a total dork before the transformation. Edwar = dork. Plus, he already throws a bugs bunny change, so he's totally ready for cartoon bliss.
Come on now Sully...
We all know Joba as a starter would throw complete games and come in under 100 pitches everytime out..
He's pretty good ya know.
Hughes was a good starter too
And he has infinitely more starts than Joba in the bigs
What happens if Joba has a few hiccups, you know like almost EVERY starter has, and all of a sudden you don't have a starter OR an 8th inning guy?
*Gizmoduck - I googled it
Some of you weenies need to remember that it wouldn't have been just Hughes for Santana straight up. It would have to have been Hughes, Cabrera (their starting CF) and Kennedy.
And to you drama queens who keep bellyaching about the guy, repeat after me: 21 years old. 21 years old. 21 years old. Nobody has a 3rd pitch when they're 21 years old.
Hughes is going to have a kickass career.
And I think some of you would have noticed by now that the Yankees are slow starters. Always have been.
Harden up.

"Nobody has a 3rd pitch when they're 21 years old."
Bahahahahaha!!!
Caspian = Moron
Don't you think the Yankees could have come in and negotiated a better deal at the end of the process like the Mets did. Minny had no choice but to trade him. Just like the Reverend Wright has doomed Obama, the non-trade for Santana will doom Cashman.
Caspian...good call, dont worry, these same people will be "Hughes Groupies" once he comes back and strings together a couple solid starts. Dont you know that Yankee fans blow in the wind? Most of them root for the uniform, so whoever is doing well, that's who they love. That must be horrible since even the best players fail 7 out of 10 times. Oh well, good luck Phil! Us groupies will continue to worship your greatness, I promise a thousand Bulls will be sacrificed on your alter...AAAAAMMMMMEEEENNNNNNN
Yo Sully -- where were you when the sox were losing 5 in a row? Bleeding and crying on some sox site? Funny how you always seem to come a-calling when your sox start winning and how you disappear when they're falling apart. You're a Phony.
typical short sighted red sox fan.
