Winding down in Tampa

Four more games remain here before we leave Tampa. Players seem to be in that let's-get-out-of-here mode, after six-plus weeks. Tonight's a night game against the Phillies, with road games remaining against the Indians tomorrow and Phillies Wednesday. On Thursday, the Yankees close out their home schedule against the Pirates, with the field to be renamed for George Steinbrenner. Incidentally, I've been told that Steinbrenner will be attending Opening Day as well as the Welcome Home Dinner Sunday night.

FYI Scott Patterson was 4-2 /w a 1.09 for Trenton .The Charleston pitcher mentioned in your article is Paul Patterson who certainly is not competing at the MLB level for a job anytime soon.

Sean Henn was just placed on the 15 -day DL w/ a tender shoulder which means NY doesn't have to make a decision on him until mid-April.

Henn couldn't have been placed on DL because the New York Yankees didn't go through me!

Yes they did!

For all the "ESPN is full of Red Sox fans" conspiracy theorists out there, here's an article you will enjoy:

This is my favorite part, a quote from Mike Timlin which to me (unintentionally?) strikes home a point I was making while sitting next to a Sox fan in Tampa:

"There's always been a fan base," says Mike Timlin, now in his sixth season in Boston. "You know that. But now that we've won a couple of times, it seems like it's exponentially multiplied."

And now for some Yankee Blog Trivia. Which frequent blogger made this prediction last year prior to the first game::::::?

And now some fearless predictions

AL East

Clemens signs with Astros

AL Cy Young - Felix Hernandez
AL MVP - Vlad Guererro
AL Rookie of the Year - Dice-K

NL Cy Young - Jake Peavy
NL MVP - Jose Reyes
NL Rookie of the Year - Chris Ianetta

Sounds like something I would have said. If it was me - then let me prove that I've learned nothing and instead give you another set of fearless predictions that are sure to go wrong:

NL MVP - Wright
NL Rookie of the Year - not sure, maybe Ian Stewart

Chip,

If you want some interesting reading, go to the archives and read the April 1 predictions by the regulars. Some are good for a chuckle or two. Not just yours! Also many interesting opinions on A-Rod, Hughes, Abreu, Melky and of course Pavano. A lot of "eat your words" moments. BTW is Joba eligible for ROY?

anyone else going to the final 2 spring training games against the marlins?

I'll be there for both

Nudge,

Yes he is. Didn't reach the limits for innings or games so he should still count as a rookie - we just heard about him all year so it's easy to forget he was only up from August on.

Hey, I'll eat my words on Pavano and Igawa (mind you I never said they would be great, just better than Aaron Small, Shawn Chacon, Jaret Wright and Corey Lidle). And I remember the people who wanted A-Rod sent out of town for garbage. There was one guy who was so convinced Alex would stink he charted his at bats each game to "prove" how bad he was - that lasted about a week.

That's part of the fun of making preseason predictions - they're about as reliable as a glass hammer but still, year after year, we make them for the sake of entertainment. When it comes to predictions they are a lot like batting averages - if you're only right 3 out of 10 times you're doing pretty good.

In July who made the prediction that Yankees will win only 84 games?

Probably some anonymous!

Chip,

There is a requirement for ROY that they not be on the roster more than 45 days which is sometime in August. Do you know the exact day he was added to the 25 man roster? If it was before August 16 he may not be eligible.

Since Nudge is embarrassed to admit which team he's a fan of -- ???if he's even a fan of any baseball team??? -- probably because they have no fan base and since his team probably doesn't have a blog or website -- he can't fathom the idea that fans can actually enjoy speculating about the success of their team, that they can enjoy giving their opinions on the players, that they can be optimistic and hopeful. Nudge is just a depressed person with no confidence and no hopes for the future with his non-team. That's why he comes here and enjoys the company of REAL FANS OF A REAL TEAM. Poor poor Nudge--missing out on the joy of being a fan of a real team and having other fellow fans to chat with.

Anon,

How could I possibly be depressed when I get so much attention from the likes of you and all the other anonymi? Plus the humorous diatribes about what you think you know about me are so amusing that I always have a smile on my face when here. BTW, are you aware that....?.... is a question mark? Its a form of punctuation that is placed at the end of a sentence that is in fact, a question! So the random usage mid-sentence and in declaritive statements in...well...questionable, sorry for the pun!

I have no trouble understanding peoples entusiasm for their team. In fact I encourage it. Why do you have a problem understanding my grasp of reality? I never complain about you guys being enthusiastic. Why do you get bothered by me giving you the facts? Just because reality collides with enthusiasm should not prevent fans from being fans. After all the term is a derivative of fanatic so reality is often tossed aside. And in fact I am a fan....a fan of all the anonymi out there that can't wait to see what I post so they can show me how dearly I affect them and their daily lives.

Anon....this posts for you!

Nudge says "How could I possibly be depressed when I get so much attention from the likes of you and all the other anonymi?

Damn, that's one pathetic SOB. What a dull sorry life he must have if that's how Nudge gets his enjoyment.

See....Im smiling ear to ear!

Thanks again.

You know anon, you should quit while you can because you aren't representing yourself to well here and we'd rather you keep the personal vendettas to yourself. We don't care who you like and who you don't Just talk baseball.

Why do some acknowlege Nudge? Nudge makes no sense and is child. Nudge is criminal in that he steals time. Nudge is same as others that are nonsensical. Does someone disagree and want too defend?

Anon,

Try to understand.

Nobody here cares anything about whether you and anon like or agree with each other or anybody else here.

You are both wasting bandwidth.

Yankees, please, or at least baseball!!!

That too, but I meant to say "you and Nudge".

Sorry, my typing doesn't seem to improve...

Did I just read 3 posts of Anon acknowledging Nudge while he questions why do WE acknowledge Nudge? Strange way to make a point.
