Duncan's reaction to suspension

Shelley Duncan spoke slowly and softly in discussing his reaction to being issued a three-game suspension by MLB for his slide into the Rays' Akinori Iwamura on Wednesday.
Duncan, who had shortly before finished playing in the Yankees-Reds game, said he had not had much time to think about his response, but that: "Initially, I feel it's pretty unfair."
Duncan said he felt that his comments after Saturday's game in which a play at the plate broke Francisco Cervelli's right wrist were taken to be retaliatory, when they were not intended as such. Duncan said he simply made the point that he would continue to play hard.

Brian Cashman said he has no issue with either the way Duncan plays or the slide itself. Does he like the way Duncan plays, Cashman was asked?
"Oh, absolutely. I'd take 25 Shelley Duncans."

It was reported elsewhere that several veterans talked to Duncan about his style of play and told him to tone it down. I asked Duncan about that this morning, and he said not one player has talked to him. I spoke to four veterans today about Duncan's play -- Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera, Jason Giambi and Derek Jeter -- and all said they would tell Duncan not to change anything.

Kat,

I'm more interested in what was up with Hughes today. What can you tell us?

Strange game.

Hughes got hammered for the first time this Spring while Edwar Ramirez was dominant for the first time - retiring all 5 hitters he faced, including 4 Ks.

Cue the Twilight Zone theme here.

I don't really expect to see Edwar on the 25-man roster on 3/31.

Won't be the last time Hughes gets knocked around this season, but it might be the last time Ramirez is dominant.

I have zero confidence in that kid because he's essentially a one-trick pony who always has trouble finding the strike zone.

I'd love to know what pitches Hughes got hit on as well (I'm hoping either a change or slider), but I'm not too worried. It was only a matter of time before he was going to give up some hits. I've been looking to find anything. If you see anything Diane, please let me know! I think I'm going to have to subscribe to MLBTV at least for the rest of ST.

I'm a blockhead.
